JethroTull
This is one of my many favorite "depressed mood" songs. Main backing instrument is the piano with a slow pace... edit to add youtube... The Kinks - Sitting in my hotel room If my friends could see me now, driving round just like a film star, In a chauffeur driven jam jar, they would laugh. They would all be saying that it's not really me, They would all be asking who I'm trying to be. If my friends could see me now, Looking out my hotel window, Dressed in satin strides and two-tone daisy roots, If my friends could see me now I know they would smile. Sitting in my hotel, hiding from the dramas of this great big world, Seven stories high, looking at the world go by-y. Sitting in my hotel room, thinking about the countryside and sunny days in June. Trying to hide the gloom, sitting in my hotel room. If my friends could see me now, dressing up in my bow-tie, Prancing round the room like some outrageous poove, They would tell me that I'm just being used They would ask me what I'm trying to prove. They would see me in my hotel, Watching late shows till the morning, Writing songs for old time vaudeville revues. All my friends would ask me what it's all leading to. Sitting in my hotel, looking through the window at the people in the street, Seven stories high looking at the world go by, Sitting in my hotel, looking at the world outside. If my friends could see me now they would try to understand me, They would ask me what on earth I'm trying to prove. All my friends would ask me what it's all leading to. BUCK'EYE' DOC
When I was in college, I used to play this song when I got down and discouraged and it would keep me going! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nR95xymoxkk The Eagles were my favorite band then and this was on my favorite album of theirs, On The Border. And I would turn it up FULL VOLUME! And play air guitar. Oh, well, it's been a good day in hell, but tomorrow I'll be glory bound! Melanie_72
http://hk.youtube.com/watch?v=fuZFt1kH0W8 "I'm Every Woman" by Chaka Khan, is certainly uplifting!! I also like "I Will Survive"-Gloria Gaynor and I'll Stand By You-Pretenders. There are tons more but this is all I can think of right now. ninelives
I always listen to Zep "That's The Way" and "Northern Sky" by Nick Drake. I love Nick Drake! Discovered him rather that thanks to the Volkswagon commercial. I don't know.. whatever I feel like, I suppose. Music in general is very healing for me. That's how I am. Sometimes I like to listen to sad songs, have a good cry and other times I want the opposite sound. Whatever floats my boat as they say! Heartbreaker_Girl
When I am sad or depressed, I listen to, D'yer Mak'er - Led Zeppelin, because it just cheers me up Fool in the Rain - Led Zeppelin, because the upbeat tune Dream On - Aerosmith, for when I'm discouraged Ain't No Fun - AC/DC, I like it Walk This Way - Aerosmith, if I'm sad at a party, it cheers me up

Chaka Khan is one of those "Yeah!!" songs; and listening to pretty much anything by James Taylor is like sitting in front of a warm fire with a big mug of cocoa

When I am feeling down, I have to put on some upbeat stuff, don't mind slow songs, as long as they are not sad.
JethroTull
This is about depressing music you listen to while depressed. NOT music to lift you out of a depression.
JethroTull
The Kinks song I posted is all about how I've grown apart from my old friends and we now have nothing in common. It's sad. What happened to me, what happened to them. Time just flew by, now we are all old. We did what we did, some did more, some did less.
leddy
If i am depressed I put on The Song remains the Same, as it has such an upbeat happy sound to it that lifts my spirits.

I thought others in this thread were also saying what music also lifts them out of a depression. These are songs I like to listen to while depressed and I don't like to stay depressed either.
