  1. I believe there was a magazine article way back in 1972 that mentioned that two Los Angeles area shows were recorded but no one in the modern era really knew about it. When “How the West was Won” was getting mixed and released there were reports of LA 1970 coming out. It was Plant who mentioned LA 1970 I believe. But it turned out to be the 2, 1972 Cali shows. Even when the Long Beach 1972 multitrack songs surfaced I don’t think anyone really knew about the two shows being completely multitracked. It was really a big surprise to learn they were both multi tracked
  2. Going by the March 1973 soundboards; it appears for every one we have; they contain what would have been on Tape #2 containing the last part of the concerts. IE, whoever stole these from Jimmy didn’t get the first reel of each concert. Do we know 100% for sure; maybe not. But with the evidence it’s a pretty sure bet. Why would they purposely tell the sound man; “Don’t record the full show, only record two parts...”. Doesn’t make sense. It would be a pain in the ass. They simply set up the tapes and hit record, and flipped them/added a new one when they ran out.

  4. Again, the copies we have were made this way: Jimmy has the entire soundboard and then upon listening to them in the late 1980s he made himself a copy of the parts he liked the most. Maybe for new ideas for himself. What we have are simply those edited down copies. Not the full master copy (which is complete).
  5. Surely all those European shows exist in soundboard form. They wouldn’t have just recorded parts of two songs and that’s it. What we have is probably just partial “listening copies” that page made for himself of parts of the songs to get ideas. Surely the masters are complete shows
  6. Led Zeppelin is a Product, not a musical band anymore.
  7. Brings a new meaning to “The Emperors New Clothes.”
  8. The 1971 versions especially the Japan versions do this start-stop thing in the solo during the middle that is phenomenal. Osaka 9/28 is super cool during that part. Wish we had a better recording of that one!! OMG...Communication from 9/28/71 Osaka is 🔥. During the solo they do a similar jam that was done during Bring It On Home at Copenhagen 1970. Unreal....
  9. Wow, this would be awesome. It always seemed weird why only the middle of the show was available. I wonder if anyone at the Hotel knows about this? Maybe “dantheman” or Pernod or Your Overlord knows?
  10. For ages the circulating recording of this show only had one encore “Rock and Roll” and on a bootleg called “Live at the Heartbreak Hotel.” But in the mid-1990s the same recording surfaced in full which included all the encores as we know it today and the “Burn Like A Candle” bootleg CDs and LPs were pressed up.
  11. I purposely came here to read a comment by Steve about this release...and your funny/whitty comment didn’t disappoint. Thx!!
  12. Would have loved to be about ten rows back with the volume up on 11, had they played this live. All the outtakes from ITTOD should have been on that album. It would have been an even more amazing album and would have shown 10 years later they still “had it!”
  13. The one story I dont believe about Mike was that he destroyed all his masters. I think that was just made up to keep folks from asking about getting copies from his family.
  14. The AKG 451s needed a 48v power supply. So yes he did need power supplies for his mics. I have wondered if he had different capsules that he used. The 451s could be bought in sets with the Cardioid, Hyper-cardioid and Omni patterns. These are the things I’d like to know the most of all. How are his mics configured. The body of the 451s also have a high pass filer. So I wonder if he experimented with this setting as well. Yes the deck was important but the entire mic set up was the most important factor.
  15. They should have mixed up the set lists from night to night. If not completely different from night to night maybe include some set list anchors to keep things a little consistent but swap out lots of songs especially when doing 2, 3, 4 and 5 night runs.
  16. Wish we knew exactly the mics and how he configured the mics and capsules. That the most important part. The NAK was important because us was above cheaper gear but the mic capsules are the reason for the type of sound. His LA ‘75 tapes sound quite different than his ‘77 tapes. His Long Beach 3/11/75 sounds more like the LA ‘77 recordings. I wish we knew. I wish there was more to his story too; like someone from his family coming forward.
  17. Maybe a new version could be purchased by “The Only Way To Fly” in this thread a new transfer could be made?
  18. That’s is the only difference. It’s not a huge deal with today being full of official companion discs and tons of bootleg out takes but 25 years ago to find an anomaly on ANY Zep record it was a thrill to hear it
  19. Atlantic sent out advance promotional copies of a 7” inch Advanced EP of Gallows Pole to radio stations and such prior to the release of the full album. A neat oddity is that a really cool guy who use to hang out at RO.com discovered long ago that an entirely different version of the song was on the EP. It had a longer version that was on the album and wasn’t known about until he discovered it. On the album version during the last couple minutes they chopped out about a 15 second portion which you can hear on the Advance Promo 33 & 1/3” EP.
  20. Funny to see the MSG 1971 photo doesn’t have the word FRAGILE stenciled onto the case but you see it added in the Melbourne 1972 photo. The case was used and worn and should have been retired ages ago but instead they just paint FRAGILE on it like that would help protect the guitar. 😜
