  1. Chatham County Line at Haw River Ballroom in Saxapahaw, NC on 12.18.11.
  2. Yes, I would. In this case your opinion is wrong, no matter the venue or even if it's a cover band it's still a concert. That's not a matter of opinion, it's fact. Perhaps you should familiarize yourself with the actual definition of the word: con·cert/ˈkänsərt/ Noun: A musical performance given in public, typically by several performers or of several separate compositions. Verb: Arrange (something) by mutual agreement or coordination
  3. For those that aren't aware of it, this comes from an album of covers McCartney is releasing in February.
  4. ^Which is exactly why I tend to watch the version of movies that were originally shown in theatres when given the option to do so on DVDs. Unfortunately, there was no such option when I watched the "Redux" version of Apocalypse Now a few months ago. From what I understand, a lot of folks prefer the original cut.
  5. Fair enough but I'm not sure if that person even posts here anymore or not.
  6. Like I said, no offense intended whatsoever but going by the original post in the thread, I gathered it was meant to share our thoughts and recommendations about current artists. In other words, new artists that are currently creating, releasing and performing new music.
  7. It can be a completely unknown band (or solo artist) performing in a pub and it's still a concert. Hell, they could be performing on the street or to no audience at all and they'd still be "in concert". Whether or not the material is original has nothing whatsoever do with the definition of the word.
  8. Had my eye on both of these for a while and just couldn't resist when I saw them marked down to 50% off at Barnes and Noble on Friday.
  9. Went nuts on the $5 CDs when out Christmas shopping Friday afternoon. Nothing really essential here, mainly just stuff I already own on vinyl with the exception of Mellencamp's Scarecrow and Van Halen's Fair Warning. I never have been a huge Mellencamp fan but there are a few songs of his I really like which can be found on some of his albums like Scarecrow, Lonesome Jubilee and Big Daddy. I have no excuse whatsoever for buying Destroyer other than a twisted desire to hear "Flaming Youth" again in the last year of my 40s. Same for Ted, it's been eons since I last heard some of the deep cuts (pardon the pun) from this record such as "Death By Misadventure", "Workin' Hard, Playin' Hard" and "A Thousand Knives".
  10. I am honestly not trying to be rude so please don't take this the wrong way but this thread is for current music. If I'm not mistaken, The Smiths broke up in 1987.
  11. .....and, they have a new album due next year. As I posted in the 2012 thread, you can listen to a couple of tunes from it on their website here. Lydia Loveless turned out to be one of my favorite new discoveries this year, this comes from her second album, Indestructible Machine:
  12. It's still a concert whether it's a cover band or not.
  13. I'm not sure how rare it is but it is quite the collection. Someday I hope to own at least one of these as well:
  14. Thanks for posting as always, Deb. One of my graphic art instructors told me that one of the first things to pique his interest in pursuing art as a career was recreating the artwork from one of Led Zeppelin's albums on the wall of his dorm room back in the 70s. Unfortunately, he passed away a few months ago so I never got a chance to ask him what album it was.
  15. I saw one of these years ago at a Turtles Music location outside of Athens, GA but couldn't afford it at the time. A few short years later I saw another one at Wherehouse Music in Jacksonville, NC. Wherehouse (an offshoot of Turtles, Tracks and Record Bar) was going out of business so it was markedly down considerably. I couldn't resist and picked up one. These are the original remastered versions so I haven't even bothered with the new ones that came out a few years ago. I'm sure at some point I will buy them but at present I'm in no real hurry to do so.
  16. You may have missed it but Deb included that in her listing above as well as a clip of the performance.
  17. Cool covers project that will include the realization of some R.E.M. songs that were only played once or twice in concert (such as "Ha! We Get Paid For It"):
  18. Receiving the last ever R.E.M. fan club single. More like "bittersweet" really.
  19. Out of all of the movies I saw at the theatre over the summer (Super 8, Rango and Captain America: The First Avenger), Rise of the Planet of the Apes is the only one I've wanted to see again when it came out on DVD. That's nothing against those other movies but it does speak pretty highly of Rise of the Planet of the Apes especially since I wasn't really expecting a whole lot going in and found it to be a very worthy addition (and/or reboot) to the series. I just hope the sequel(s) live up to the precedent set by this one. As for movies I saw that came in 2011, that I didn't see in theatres, my favorite would have to be The Tree of Life.
  20. This was widely panned by critics when it came out this past summer but after perusing a handful of favorable reviews of it on Amazon, I decided to give it a go. Turns out the critics weren't entirely off of their mark as I thought there were at least a couple of cringe worthy moments. Otherwise, I found it to be a very enjoyable flick. I'd have to go back and read the reviews to see what the critics found fault with but I can only guess that it was the lack of instant gratification along the love story lines. In that sense, it is a old fashioned love story, an aspect of the film that I found to be very refreshing and a welcome change of pace from most movies these days.
  21. Not only one of my favorite Neil songs but one of my favorite songs by anybody.
  22. I know all I have to do is make a mix of those songs on CD (or as a playlist in iTunes) but it would still be cool if this was reissued on CD. I believe it has actually come out in that format over the years but only as a very pricey import.
