  1. Haha, we are really getting into geeked out minutiae here but ...look at the gloss on that 14 inch tom head, its too shiny to be a coated head IMO. It has a different texture look than the snare head. I wish there were more pics of the kit from back or above. Maybe he was experimenting at this time, just before the loud Vistalites arrived. The clear heads offer more in terms of projection, less warmth. Could be?!
  2. Very cool shot! A revelation to see a black dot batter side head on the bass drum with the steel kit. Also, like earlier green sparkle kit, surprised to see a clear head on the back. I always assumed coated heads all around. Love these pics from behind his kit.
  3. I have to disagree with you there. That bass drum head is definitely clear. No way you'd see that much detail through a coated head. You can also clearly see the felt strip at the bottom. The tom also looks too smooth and reflective to be white coated. That looks like a reflection of the mic, not a shadow. Wondering about those floor toms.
  4. The bass is still a bit distorted on the mono mix and Plant's vocals break up at times. This new release has boosted highs and sounds brighter though than any other I have heard. I have Flagge's Dead Battery and that sounds dull compared to this mono release. I have a master>open reel>dat version that sounds good but less clear , high freqs. This is clearer and may be the most enjoyable this show will get. The stereo mix is a joke. It's all bass on the left channel. Awful.
  5. Sonic Boom set has been liberated on a trading site. Will download and listen asap. Report to follow.
  6. This is totally true. That's why many including myself way prefer a decent audience tape to a shitty dry board tape from 77.

This is a GREAT photo. Totally with you on the palpable feeling in this shot. Who knows what tune he's playing but Since I've Been Loving You feels right.
  8. Mine is: The complete board tape from Toronto Sep 4 1971 Anything from Australia 72 Nassau Coliseum June 72 shows Baltimore 72 Second half of 73 ( Boston, Providence, Detroit, Milwaukee, Minneapolis, Pittsburgh) Chicago '75 for Levee and Wanton Song
  9. LOL. I think he's in Europe so English is a second language.
  10. I'm curious to know this too. A certain seller was offering the Sonic Boom set for free with the purchase of another box set. I was tempted to get the Destroyer set just to get the Hampton 4CD but $ are tight right now and Cleveland '77 doesn't do much for me. I'm fine with my downloads of Dr Who ( Winston) of 4/27 and the Jason Peterson version of 4/28. Hoping someone shares the new Hampton soon. Huge upgrade!!! Hmm??
  11. I agree with this. 77 is so well regarded around this forum but I rarely listen to those shows anymore. Although, I recently listened to 6/25/77 and really enjoyed that show. It's one of the few 77 tour shows that builds. It doesn't fizzle down like many did from that tour. I'd love to hear a board tape of that one. Most of the 77 boards highlight the blemishes too much, mainly Jimmy's erratic playing. In addition to his sloppy fragmented execution, he often sounds to me like he isn't as in sync with the rhythm section as on earlier tours. I think all the drugs really affected his time. From '73 I'd love to hear Minneapolis , Detroit, and Milwaukee in addition to the ones you noted. 6/3/73 would be a mutha to have in a SBD! I would be happy with any '73 show. The complete Denver or Houston shows! How about Pittsburgh? I've got enough '75 boards and this new release will be paramount to all the others IMO. Just a great show all around. So, drop some '73 SBDs pleeze!
  12. I think if it happened it would've been because Miles dug what Page was doing from a sonic and feel stand point. It would not be jazz nor would it need to be. Miles hired plenty of musicians post Bitches Brew who weren't really jazz musicians. A lot of the guys who played with him in the 80's couldn't play jazz and hang with the likes of his old compadres in the 60's. They were funk/fusion/R&B players. In most ways, Miles later music had more in common with Pages soundtrack to Death wish than jazz music of the 60's and 70's.
  13. Anyway, back to the topic. I imagine Plant was hardest hit by Bonzo's death as they were truly close friends and he must've felt really devasted since he lost his son just three years before. Did he talk much , in an open way about that time immediately after Bonzos death? I don't recall reading anything too detailed in books. I'm sure some of the more literate fans here can point to some references.
  14. Shouldn't this now be "the months after Plants accident" thread? ?
  15. I don't like when Plant's voice cracks when he yells " good evening" . I mean if he can't get that out you know it's gonna be a rough night in the vocal dept.
  16. Are those suits an homage to opiates , a sort of embroidered smack art? Or did Jimmy just like dragons and poppies?? Did he ever talk about them in detail?
  17. Ok. See my above post. The original Rubber Dubber vinyl can be found for as little as $50 if you look online.
  18. Absolutely. Let me see if it's still up on the trading sites. If you can't access it online then I'll send you folders via Dropbox or wetransfer. They will be lossless WAV files though and will take up space. I have the complete folders with artwork.
  19. Thanks, appreciate the kind words. It may be that he thought was a low gen share but it was simply the Neutral Zone source. Personally, I love the sound of the Cobra boot for this show best. eat A Peach is cool in terms of completeness and editing is pretty good but the vibe of the Cobra release is very lively and raw. Can't remember what source that is and who else used it. I'd have to consult Brannon's site.
  20. Hey Toshiro! This is the info for the project we did. I provided the Rubber Dubber LP rip from my own copy but I don't know about the 1st source origins, just that it was supposedly from a Dub Taylor's tape. According to the guy who headed this remaster , the 1st source tape was a low gen acquired in a trade. ?? Maybe he was mistaken but I highlighted in red the text regarding the source used. Here is the info text: Led Zeppelin - "Heavy Vibraphones" September, 4th, 1970, Inglewood, California, The Great Western Forum (L.A. This is not meant to be a "definitive" recording, especially for this recording. Cheers and thanks go out to: - All 6 tapers of this infamous show, thank you so much for sharing your recordings with everyone in the community. If the tapers of these 2 particular sources are out there, and happen to pick this up, we hope that you'll enjoy what we've done. - My dear friend who shared this version of the 1st tape source with me, wherever you are, I hope you're doing well. - My mate Porgie for transferring his LP, sharing it, allowing me to remaster it, helping proof the final drafts, and for basically getting the ball rolling on this project. - My mate Mark for helping me out by putting together the artwork for this release, I enjoy working with you, and appreciate all your help. Please Do Not Convert To Lossy Formats Please Do Not Sell Please Share With Others Notes: This project is a combination of both raw and remastered versions of 2 of our favourite, and what we personally think are the best sounding versions of the 1st (TMOQ) and 2nd (Rubber Dubber) tape sources of the infamous "Blueberry Hill" Show. The recordings have just been remastered, they have not been merged together with other tape sources to make a complete show. We chose to do just straight remasters of these tape sources for this reason: There are 6 tape sources of this show in circulation, each source is very good, and brings something to the table, (i.e: some have more tape in between songs, some are more complete than others, some sound better than others, etc). Zeppelin collectors have very strong feelings about this show, and what they feel is the best tape source of the 6 in circulation, and what sources would make for a "perfect mix". They also have very strong opinions about which version of the tape is the best, so trying to put together a merge of this show that will please collectors is a very tricky thing to do. We decided to spare ourselves that headache and just focus on improving the sound quality of these tape sources. This project was just done in fun, we had no intentions of releasing a definitive version of this show. The 1st tape source came to me in a trade I made with a very close friend of mine many years ago. I've only traded it out to other people a handfull of times, I really didn't think it was anymore special then the other versions of the 1st tape source until I started hearing other versions/releases of the 1st tape source. This version I'm sharing with everyone has a much fuller, and brighter sound to it then previous releases. The biggest advantage this version has over the others though is that it's running at the correct tape speed, older versions ( like GM's "Blueberry Hill") run too slow. The 2nd tape source (known as the "Rubber Dubber" source) comes straight from an original Rubber Dubber LP. Porgie's transfer sounds much better than the boot releases I've heard. Whether the change in sound quality is due to the transfer, or if they transferred it from something like a cassette copy of the LP (like some of the "PB" releases) I don't know, but I personally find the silver releases to be a little duller than Porgie's transfer (nothing beats the sound of vinyl). As for the remasters, this is what we've done: - We've tried to balance the instruments and the acoustics as much as possible. - We've reduced as much tape hiss as possible. - We've tried to bring out things that were buried in the recording (crowd cheers, clapping, commentary). The title comes from a Plantation Robert makes before the band play "Since I've Been Loving You". We wanted to come up with a different title idea for this project instead of just recycling the "Blueberry Hill" title because we felt it's been done to death. We had come up with several different title ideas, we had thought about calling the project "Up To No Good In Inglewood", "Floor 'Em At The Forum", and "Manifest Destiny". They sounded good, but really didn't stick, and pack the kind of punch we wanted. One day, while listening to the work we'd done on the recording..it hits us. We came to the part where the band is about to play "Since I've Been Loving You", and he says to the crowd "Heavy Vibraphones!", and we thought that sounded pretty cool, and decided to use it. We hope everyone here will enjoy this. Cheers!
