  1. That reminds me, I forgot to mention The Royal Orleans Hotel (unfortunately I only got there after it had been bought up by Omni), and the Old Absinthe House in New Orleans.
  2. Boleskine House. Spent two nights there about 20 years ago when it was a bed and breakfast. Mrs. McGillvray was a delightful hostess and the food was wonderful.
  3. This is so kick ass. What a great live album and a fantastic album cover to boot. Back when this came out we wore out the record and multiple 8 track tapes. This album was extremely popular with my friends. Sadly I did not get to see BOC until 1979, but they were still great then. Last time I saw them was around 2016 and Buck Dharma was still killing it.
  4. When I first saw this movie back when it was released, I thought this is one of the greatest opening movie scenes I have ever seen, the way the music works with the slow zoom in on the whole band and all that gear in Pompeii coliseum. And to this day about 44 years later I can still say that.
  5. audio from the Knebworth set on the DVD. I know it is only about 45 minutes and the songs are out of order, but the sound is magnificent and the performances are superb. The set list is just over the top with Nobody's Fault, Kashmir, Achilles, In the Evening, the reworked Whole Lotta Love in all its glory, and then we have a version of Sick Again that is more uptempo and sharp than the 75 or 77 versions, as well as a high energy Rock and Roll.
  6. I think this is the only episode that was all one sketch. Genius.
  7. I would say that Orlando 71 and Osaka 9/29/71 are my favorite versions. But as you say, all the 1971 versions are astonishing. In another thread I said that in all great music and art there is sometimes a fine line between genius and madness. Celebration Day 1971 is an example of that. It is a wondrous, barely controlled chaos of unrestrained virtuosity and musicianship. Regarding Orlando 71 - hearing that soundboard tape cut off right after Jimmy's unique intro to Celebration Day is like hearing the Royal Albert Hall 1970 tape cut out before the final section of Heartbreaker. If the rest of that Orlando soundboard version were available I think it would blow my mind. Same goes for Osaka 9-29-71. Of course the 71 board versions that are available are also outstanding. I remember the first time I heard the Toronto version - that was so overwhelming. Same goes for the 9/28-71 version - still reeling from that one. The anticipation on that was exquisite - first hearing that the whole portion of the show was being released on soundboard, then seeing the actual track list printed on the cover on line, then hearing from people who confirmed the song was there, then finally hearing it myself.
  8. For me it is close call between Grame and Liriodendron . Both of the them produce versions that really bring out the bass and I very much enjoy that, plus they get an excellent drum sound which is key for me. I also think that Northbridge has done outstanding work on 1977 boards (e.g., The Past is In Our Souls, and How the Time Flies), and if you get a chance check out JRK remasters. All of these folks do outstanding work and all of them are a treasure to fans like me who do not have the time, patience, expertise and skill to do this type of work.
  9. yes indeed! I just saw this on Royal Orleans and was just about to post it here myself.
  10. The 9-28 and 9-29 soundboard releases have only a few songs in common. I have been thinking about making a compilation using one song from each concert. For each song in common on the two soundboard releases, which one do you prefer? I know that some people will prefer the sound on one date or another, but since both sound so good I am focusing mostly on the performance quality. I am leaving out Heartbreaker because the first part is missing on 9-28, which is a pity because what is there is absolutely stunning. Part 1 had the first two songs. Here are the rest.
  11. Such a pity they left this off their first album. Would have provided some much needed grit and heaviness. It does point to elements of their second record.
  12. Thanks. I wanted to put all five songs in the poll, but it seems a single post is limited to 4 poll questions. I can put the remaining songs (Stairway, What Is, Moby Dick) in another poll.

I am leaving out Heartbreaker because the first part is missing on 9-28, which is a pity because what is there is absolutely stunning. I will start here with the first two songs in common. As I try to decide for myself I find a bit of "recency bias". I find myself initially preferring the 9-28 versions, but mostly because they are new to me - I have listened to the 9-29 soundboard many times and have become very familiar with those versions.
  14. I am really enjoying the very laid back and very lengthy Going to California. It is like hearing the song in a whole new light.
  15. You know how sometimes when you are listening to live Zeppelin and you realize that what you are hearing is beyond your comprehension that it actually happened, and you find yourself smiling and grinning and thinking "WHAT THE HECK WAS THAT ???!!!". Well I was listening again (for the umpteenth time) to Celebration Day from the new soundboard of 9-28-71 and that happened to me. I had listened to it alot of times and I have heard other blistering versions of this song, and yet there it was just boggling my mind all over again.
  16. It is sad to think that the original verdict was vacated in Sept 2018, just after the last official Zeppelin release - the remastered TSRTS. Do we know if the pending legal action is possibly holding up any additional live releases?
  17. I still cannot really believe I am listening to this after all these years. Of course I felt the same way when the 9-29 board was released. And yes the 1975 Seattle March 21 board was also a revelation, but there are so many 1975 boards out there. Having the two Osaka tapes from what is arguably the band's peak is such a treasure. We don't have WWL but what we now have is so amazing. Listening to Down by the Riverside now. Fantastic. Can hear the guitar and organ so clearly. What a moment.
  18. take a look at the description in the clip I posted above from YouTube by Led Zeppelin Rarities. It states what was done in the remastering.
  19. It is still difficult to comprehend that the same band that played that version of Celebration Day followed it immediately with that version of the acoustic set. Great music sometimes walks a fine line between genius and madness. This version of Celebration Day does just that. Talk about Dancing on the Precipice.
