  1. The review is written like a parody of an old fart that doesn't get rock n roll. "whatever the youths do nowadays when there isn't a crime to perpetrate"
  2. Not many other big bands have stopped and never restarted. Pink Floyd & The Smiths is about the only ones I can think of, and that's only because the "frontmen" can't stand to be in a room together, never mind share a stage.
  3. Gotta love that pic of Plant on his bike with Strider on his lap. "Der Zeppelin ist explodiert!" Never a truer word spoken!
  4. I'd say back garden of Bonzo's place in West Hagley, before he moved to Old hyde farm. The drying rags are probably what he used to clean the bike. The pic has a very 1970/ 1971 look about it. OT, but looks like he's using a matched grip?!
  5. A magazine for roadies?! Truly there is a mag for anything and everything under the sun.
  6. In the order of "how often I listen to them", rather than critics' choice.... 1. Led Zep 2 2. Physical Graffiti 3. Presence 4. Led Zep 3 5. Led Zep 1 6. Led Zep 4 7. Houses of the Holy 8. Coda 9. In thru The Out Door
  7. Slightly OT, but the discussion here of JP's parents, shows up that urban myth that he is one quarter Chinese / Japanese as the nonsense that it is. Amazing how many people on the 'net repeat "Page is part-Chinese" as if it's fact rather than complete cobblers.
  8. The intro to Lola leave your light on sounds like a tuned down Custard Pie. I like this band!
  9. I forgot to add this from the same album as the other Roses track above
  10. Just a fun thread for riffs that make you think Zep but are actually other artists, to start off Lenny Kravitz - Rock and roll is dead Stone Roses - Driving South Think it's fair to say both were inspired by listening to Zeppelin....! Any others?
  11. I love the guitar playing on the Coverdale / Page album, but Coverdale's lyrics ruin it for me really. Cliched rock BS. And the shiny / too trebly early '90s production. By contrast Zooma had a lot of bottom end whump.
  12. I'd argue they changed music temporarily, in some areas like recording the ambient sound of drums, backwards echo, etc. These things were revolutionary at the time but I'd argue music technology has moved on so much since then that it was only a real change in the 70s, not now. And they changed things permanently in terms of some other areas: the business side of things, gigs, asking for and getting 90%, etc. So they left a permanent mark on the commercial side. Tbh though I don't really care if they did change music or not. Not many bands have after all. The Beatles arguably changed recorded music more than any other act, but for gut wrenching riffs and so on I'd rather listen to Zeppelin.
  13. I figured as much. There are a couple of dates at the Lafayette in 1969 on the official gig timeline, so I guess it's possible it was scheduled but postponed to the following year to allow more time to rehearse for the Marquee date the following evening.
  14. Steve, wikipedia has just had added a gig supposed played in 17/10/68 at Club Lafayette in Wolverhampton. This doesn't appear on the timeline on this site. Is there any info in your notes about this mythical gig? I don't remember seeing it in any of the obvious sources e.g. Dave Lewis' book of Zeppelin shows etc.
  15. Zooma is brilliant. If you want to see JPJ stretching out & throwing every musical idea into the mix, that album has it. Great drumming from Pete Thomas as well
  16. I've heard a rumour of a bloke who has a boot of the Denver 26/12/68 show and has hoarded it all these years. Came to bootleg the Fudge and started the tape early. Probably just be a rumour who knows...but for me that one is the one I'd have as my "fantasy boot". Not so much for the performance, though by all accounts it was pretty good, but for the historicness (word?!) of the occasion, and to hear if there were any comments from the crowd near the taper, along the lines of "Led who?" "aw never heard of 'em". my other fantasy would be any recordings of the Oct / Nov / Dec '68 UK shows turning up, especially the Wood Green Fishmongers Arms gig as I used to live just down the road from there.
  17. Isn't it Pat Bonham with them? Every time I see that photo I can almost hear my mum saying "if the wind changes you'll stay like that!"
  18. "golden thing is just staggering " "(Laughing)" "Is that the head of Robert?" "Yeah, it's swanking" you sure this is a video of LZ playing music they're talking about?!! #NSFW?
  19. I love the way the caption on "Robbie's mansion" actually shows the Tower House. Clueless paper. There is no evidence from the "story" that Page is upset at the shed either. Could this be the Fat Dancer's way of staying in the papers given he's been in commercial decline for a while now?
  20. 10th April '77, the legendary "Stormtrooper outfit" show. You are indeed a lucky dog, if you'd chosen the previous night to go, then....!
  21. "any time now" You tease Robert. Maybe it'll be an acoustic set, Battle of Evermore to include special guest Alison Krauss for the Sandy Denny part?
  22. Nice looking 6 string bass there. Wonder what's Finnish for "wow I can't believe I'm playing in the same band as John Paul Jones"?
  23. According to the Paul Rees bio, Plant went off to a kebab restaurant in Chalk Farm after the o2 show, to reflect away from the celebs that were going to be at the after party. In addition to the midlands, I think he has a place in Primrose Hill (?) which is round the corner from Chalk Farm.
  24. Is that taken at the gig Plant played with a pub rock band in Worcestershire sometime in 1978? Iirc it was the first time he'd been on stage since Oakland '77. Bonzo sat in on drums for a couple of numbers too I think.
