  1. Spats, this is not an insult - just get that out of the way upfront. Pink Floyd built their reputation as a live act based on cutting edge visuals back in the mid 1960's. They were pioneers in light show and psychedelic sounds, even The Beatles were checking them out before making Sgt. Peppers... Action is in the eyes of the beholder. I love the multi-sensory shows that I watched Floyd put on and I have bootlegs of performances by them in the 70's that I just love listening to Gilmour and Co. go off on "Shine On...", "Dogs" and "Money" among others. They were a great band, critically acclaimed, artistically acclaimed and obviously have legions of fans. Last word on this, how many visuals were at the Live 8 reunion gig? Not much. How many of those hundreds of thousands of fans in Hyde Park were there to hear them play? Most, if not all. End of story.
  2. I agree with your assessment of the song. You can just hear the pain in Robert's voice. The music amplifies it by just crawling along, like the clock on the wall he refers to, "one minute seems like a lifetime...." I am actually glad they never tried this live (as Zeppelin) because it never would have been captured like that at a gig.
  3. It is only uncertain to people who don't look at the facts. Also, if we are the ones to liberate all people from inhumane treatment by their government, I know there are countries in Africa that needed our assistance way before Iraq. Call it what it is, Bush got us into something that even his father's administration refrained from and that was when Iraq was a viable force in that region.

  6. At least that will stimulate the economy, right?!
  7. What a shame that Celebration Day was not part of the soundboard, from the part of the beginning that is there it sounded like it was going to awesome!! It still gives me chills to hear Bonzo count them in at the beginning of Immigrant Song to start the show!! How does the Toronto '71 soundboard compare to Orlando?
  8. Yes, Vince Neil was slated as the opening act for the show I had tickets to see. Knebby, I agree with you on your assessment of Jon Lord. He was correct in saying Coverdale was not being Coverdale for that project.
  9. GO 'CUSE!! Johnny Flynn rules!!
  10. That is A LOT of aging players. Taking on a young and hungry group of teams in the AFC East is going to take its toll......
  11. The Hard Rock Live concert facility near me is having a classic albums show next month for Physical Graffiti which we are attending. Back around Christmas they did a show featuring the music of John Lennon and it was amazing how good the musicians were. I am looking forward to hearing how PG is represented live, especially with the number of songs on it that were never (or rarely for some) performed live by Zep.
  12. Garden Of Eden - Guns N Roses
  13. I am as well. They cover all the grounds of success. If they are not your "cup of tea" that's one thing, but to say they are overrated................
  14. ^Nice picture, you look a bit like Lady/Princess Diana.
  15. I have always enjoyed the song and I feel it is light, vibrant, humorous and edgey - much like the rest of the disc. When I say edgey, I mean no one would expect a song like this (along with South Bound Suarez, Hot Dog, etc.) after the heaviness and seriousness that the band had while making Presence. The song almost feels like it could have been on Houses Of The Holy. Just another side of the multi-faceted Led Zeppelin !
  16. Finally, something YOU and I can agree on...... GO 'CUSE!!!
  17. How Deep Is Your Love - The Bee Gees
  18. I agree with that! I had seats in the fourth row for when they were scheduled to play here only to have the show canceled.......
  19. Roger himself has said that the character Pink was very much about Syd, much like the lyrics on the disc "Wish You Were Here" were as well. Yes, Roger's father was killed in WWII - like many other children born in the UK at that time period. But the idea of isolation, not being able to deal with a rock star status and, of course, the effects of drugs on the psyche all played parts of the story (among many other things) of Pink and Syd both. I know he felt bad about the way the group dismissed Syd from the band and went on without him. Roger (and David Gilmour) always made sure that royalties were paid out to Syd and his family. The band history is really kinda of a sad one, especially recently with the unexpected passing of Rick Wright. What a reunion set they played a few years ago!! That makes Roger and David/the band's feud the last 20+ years even more disheartening.
  20. You're No Good - Van Halen
  21. Yes, they almost broke up after DSOTM and also almost titled Wish You Were Here as Wish We Were Here. Gilmour wanted more input with the songs and Roger progressively took control in every aspect, including the music. For better or for worse. As you said, Gilmour put out a solo album between Animals and The Wall and did not have much to give at the beginning of The Wall sessions. He wanted the band to write together - like the albums prior to Animals - but Roger had the whole concept already in place when they began. Incidentally, The Division Bell was purposely written with David, Rick and Nick getting together and jamming/writing the music together to give it an earlier Pink Floyd feel to it and I think it worked. It didn't have the lyrical bite to it that Roger's stuff with the band did, but it was waaaaay better than Momentary Lapse... It is also said that The Wall is in so many small parts so Roger would get more money on the royalties for songwriting. An interesting side note is that Rick Wright was fired after The Wall album was completed, but rehired as a side musician for the tour. Well, the tour became costly and actually lost money because it could not be taken very easily on the road to many different locations, but Rick Wright made money from the tour being a side musician. Poetic justice in some sense. I agree that without Roger the Floyd lost its "balls", but Roger's solo music has never been very good without Gilmour's guitar and Wright's piano/keyboards. The Final Cut taken as individual songs is good, but as an album gets very boring - IMO.
