I never knew this, but came across it at the telethon's web site.

I would love to see the footage since Zep so rarely appeared publicly during their heyday. Has anyone ever seen it, or remember the appearance?

I really don't think this is true....someone would have posted it or mentioned it....I remember as a kid waiting hours for KISS to come on and they never did....I felt so bad for the kid they kept promising it to!

  • 3 weeks later...

KISS videotaped a PSA for Muscular Distrophy for the Jerry Lewis Telethon (it's on KISSology volume 2 dvd) and they also ran the video for "Sure Know Something" (from their Disco album, Dynasty). It ran on labor day in 1979.

I really doubt Zeppelin were on any of the Jerry Lewis Telethons live (if they were, it would have been something taped; if anything, maybe an interview), but I don't remember anything.

Some of the famous singers and musical groups who have graced the Telethon stage are

...Eartha Kitt, Patti LaBelle, Led Zeppelin,...

Everyone has a favorite moment from the Telethon, whether it's a Frank Sinatra performance, a great rock number from John Lennon, Led Zeppelin

On The Led Zeppelin DVD a version was performed by the crowd at the conclusion of the 1979 Knebworth performance on the second disk of the set...

The song is also sung by Jerry Lewis at the end of his annual telethon for the Muscular Dystrophy Association.

Pink Floyd used some chorus of "You'll Never Walk Alone" on the song "Fearless" (Meddle). Obviously, not the one from the Zep show, which was done much later. For years, I could never figure out what they were singing - I thought it was an African chant or something...

One time, they anounced the Rolling Stones were going to be on.

Ended up that they showed one of their music videos.

They did that with Blondie as well, billed them as a "guest" and then just showed the Heart of Glass video! I suspect it's the same deal with Zeppelin. They're much much too big for a telethon. And for the Midnight Special!! (saw that thread but didn't read it)

Hmmmmmm, it says 1966-2007 for the years included on the top of the page and on page 5 it says, J.P. "The Big Bopper" The problem with that is he died in 1959 with Buddy Holly, who is not listed. They must believe that the word appearances include video of dead people. :o

Perhaps they showed one of the promo videos from the Boxed Set. Clearly, they never performed on the program themselves.

You bring up a good point.

I've emailed the media director about this and when I get a response I'll update

I will be interested in the response. It just didn't happen. I love Jerrys work but This event never took place. I would know.

My name is Levee and I approved of this message.

So the only connection to Led Zeppelin is that Jerry Lewis sang "You'll Never Walk Alone" and that song was sung by the crowd at Knebworth in 1979. Reminds me of that game where anyone you name is connected to someone else you name.

Do you mean Six degrees of Kevin Bacon. well here goes nothing

Led Zeppelin was portrayed in the Tv documentry Video on Trail episode 2.5 with Sharon Stone

Sharon Stone was in "Casino" directed by Martin Scorsese

Martin Scorsese also directed "New York Stories" with Chris Elliott

Chris Elliott was in the Movie "Home for Christmas" with Marcia Gay Harden

Marcia Gay Harden was in the movie "Mystic River" with Kevin Bacon

Kevin Bacon was the only actor not to be on the Jerry lewis Telethon.

Thats the connection.
