Nathan
I thought this would be a cool thread for the musicians. If you write your own songs, or if you write poems that could be made into a song, share 'em here.

Gainsbarre
These are the lyrics to a song I wrote in November 2000. It was on the day of the US presidential election, and I thought "okay I'll write a song about the election as the vote counts are coming in". Well little did I know that it would take a month before the election was finished... THE BALLAD OF ELECTION 2000 I’m sitting in my living room just watching my TV, The box is tuned to CNN and it’s well after three, They still can’t make up their minds if they want ol’ Bush or Gore, There’s poll reviews and comment views and electoral voting laws. It all comes down to Florida, Or Oregon or Maine, To see who will be glorified, In Presidential fame. It’s really close and I don’t know which way it’s gonna bend, If Bush takes Florida then you can be sure it’s the end, Bush’s got 29 states won compared to Gore’s 18, But counting in Miami may move Gore up to 19. It all comes down to Florida, Or Oregon or Maine, To see who will be glorified, In Presidential fame. They talk about the elections, Of ’60 and ’68, But they say it isn’t as close as it is now. I’ve just found out from on the net that Gore’s picked up a state, It’s Iowa, and this means Gore is looking good to make, But hang on now, they’ve just announced another state is won, It’s Florida to Bush, and this means the election’s won. And so it is that Bush has won, he’s now the President, With Florida he took it all to Al Gore’s detriment. And so it is that Bush has won by only 22, The Republicans are back again in Pennsylvania Avenue. I came home late this evening and I heard some stunning news, Bush’s claim to the White House has been placed under review, They’ve got to recount all the votes in Florida, to check, Which one of the candidates is President-elect. It all comes down to Florida, again now we have found, The systematic counting may decided this crucial round. There’s now battles in the law courts with injunctions being filed, And law suits on validity and accusations of beguile. There’s rulings, judgements, this court, that court, all met with appeals, Challenges on deadlines and tight-fisted legal deals. And so it seems that this campaign is litigation now, With law suits on the hand count, one of many legal rows. There seems to be no suitable ending, To all the questions that could be raised. A multitude of legal positions that threaten to drown. The Florida Supreme Court has okayed the added votes, Dick Cheney’s gone to hospital unable now to cope, Dimpled chads and pregnant chads are now all in the news, Essays in Time Magazine expressing all the views. And so we wait again to see, just who will win or lose, Larry King is bound to have them all in interviews Both sides don’t know what to make of the US Supreme Court’s spiel, Judge Saul in Leon Circuit court said no to Gore’s appeal, Were there votes that just weren’t counted, did they make the grade? The public interest waxed and waned and now perhaps might fade. This campaign could finish now in just a few short days, The Florida Supreme Court appears to have the final say. The Florida Supreme Court moved to recount all the votes, Re-igniting Gore and Lieberman’s election campaign hopes, But now the US Supreme Court has just placed the count on hold, Untill arguments are given and the ruling will be told. Outside the US Supreme Court everyone waits with baited breath, The challenge rages now inside, a duel down to the death, Katherine Harris has her man defending at the bar, And showing everybody that he’s just not up to par The United States Supreme court has ruled that recounts are no more, The significance of this ruling means it’s goodbye to the war, Bush is now the President, after weeks of bitter fights, Al Gore makes his concession speech on this cold December night. So, a copyright disclaimer: All the lyrics above and below this post have been copyrighted by the poster of those lyrics, and you may not use the lyrics without their direct permission. Peep Solero
this is actually something I wrote for my band to do one day, after we're finished working on the our current songs. I guess one can figure where the inspiration came from. Your eardrums are ringing as you stand on your own The street corner's deserted as it echoes your sigh Away from the vacuum, clutching twelve years of your life With a lump in the throat and a tear in one eye Stagger away from that great explosion You know that the dream is over but you don't know which way to go Could it be what it was when it was? The same picture, just a different frame Would it mean what it meant once again? Years go by, but the song remains the same Sometimes you're thinking to just get up and go Leave it all behind you, no more of this lie Away from the lime light, not fighting any demons inside With a new found freedom you'll be feeling so high Step to one side and embrace this emotion You know that your life's not over but still wonder how to go on Edited May 29, 2008 by Peep Solero
Nathan
^That's nice. I hope to hear it one day. So here's the first lyrics I'm going to post. The final verse tends to change every now and then, but I'll post the current verse I have for it. Just FYI: the style is sort of Psychedelic Pop, with two guitars, keyboards, bass, and drums... the music itself was inspired by Syd Barrett tunes, namely stuff like Arnold Lane, See Emily Play, Lucifer Sam, etc, but then took on a life of its own. Also, it's a very stop-and-start song with only the lead guitar playing all the way through. The lyrics are about life. I call it "Sew." (verse 1) Sew the fabric Sew the fabric of your life Together Sew the people Sew the people who talk to you Together Sew the creatures Sew the creatures you call your pets Together Sew the lovers Sew the lovers that you've had Together (chorus) There is something that haunts us all And gets us down everytime we fall We live and live but it never comes Simply lurks within the shadows we're afraid of (verse 2) Sew the jobs Sew the jobs that give you wealth Together Sew the food Sew the food the fills you up Together Sew the clothes Sew the clothes that keep you warm Together Sew the houses Sew the houses you've lived in Together (chorus) (guitar solo 1) (verse 3) Sew the cars Sew the cars that you've driven Together Sew the computers Sew the computers that you surf Together Sew the TVs Sew the TVs that you watch Together Sew the things Sew all those thing you only want Together (chorus 2x) (guitar solo 2 over chorus... repeat through fade out) (fade-in on short acoustic solo) Alternate verse 3's: 1- Sew the players Sew the players for your music Together Sew the computers Sew the computers that you surf Together Sew the TVs Sew the TVs that you watch Together Sew the things Sew the things that clutter up Together 2- Sew the PC's Sew the PC's that you surf Together Sew the TVs Sew the TVs that you watch Together Sew the players Sew the players for your music Together Sew the things Sew all those things that you don't need Together I like my latest verse 3 best, but let me know your thoughts. Nathan
Wow we are a political bunch. Whose got the songs about love and passion and pain? I don't write any really political stuff. Not even "Sew" is political, though maybe it could be taken that way. I don't mind talking about politics, but I keep it out of the music because I write music to entertain people, not indoctrinate them. I have a song about pain, but I'll post those lyrics later... once some others post... maybe on the second page.

Nathan
Just make it has lots of cowbell. I need to hear that cowbell, baby! What? In "Sew?" It's not a Blue Oyster Cult song, lol. If my brother decides to add cowbell when we lay down the demo at home, that'll be up to him (my younger brother is a drummer/percussionist, and holy shit is he good!). Evermore
Here's a muse I just wrote. Kind of sophomoric, but there it is. Love and lovlier, passion on a vine Our wind it blows across the time. A pulse and wave and warmth of gray, gives light across our blessed way. And near the corner a shadow lies of doubt, remorse and false reprise Fight, my love resist my might. And live to see another light

Thank you I do cringe at a couple of the lyrics today, but the song was just intended as a record of an election, and lucky for me it turned out to be -the- election. The tune is kinda Indie-Country. My dad is a Vietnam vet and he loved this song. I praise him for being a vet. I have had a long chain of military history in my family. I dont take crap from people who make fun of vets and can't stand it when make fun of the Vietnam vets. So here they are, my lyrics. This is called Catch Your Breath. We travel to a distant land--- As we listen to that Zeppelin band---, The black night cries--- The moon shines though the trees--- Grab your gun, shoot the breeze--- The jungle, an orange blaze--- Of that deadly haze--- Death always--- Chorus Ooo-----In' Nam Watch for your life In the jungles, catch a breeze Ready your M16, fire into the trees While down on the floor, walk under the trees---, Step though, the cool breeze--- Silver tears, roll down his cheeks So------, we sleep tonight---, look up at the starlight Mars, why? oh why? Run, catch your breath. Chorus Ooo-----In' Nam Watch for your life In the jungles, catch a breeze Ready your M16, fire into the trees Out at sea---, ships fire to the trees Shells hit, out of your reach Fly in and out, get fixed, they are back out fighting again. Hickory Man
Take a number, have a seat and dust the covers off Drop the clutch and make the wheels spin Melt into the night Say goodbye now, bed discarded Created from these thoughts Somehow the drama led to the notion That only faith survives So the story goes Am I really safe in your arms Does it ever hurt, do you ever know And now I’m waiting on line And yes I’m hating that I feel so exposed Scared to dream, shed the dead weight from my last scene ya So the story goes Am I really safe in your arms Does it ever burn Does it ever hurt, do you ever know And now I’m waiting on line And yes I’m hating that I feel so alone Scared to dream, shed the dead weight from my last scene

Nathan
This one's an acoustic number. The solo is acoustic. All strings are turned down half a step, so the song is in Eb minor. There's Got to be More Standing here all alone Looking over everything Wondering what does the future hold The dead leeves fall to the ground The trees stand bare there's nothing there Nothing to take and keep close to the heart (chorus) Give me life or give me death Show me the world's unrest So I know I'm not the only one Down here, on my knees Never gettin' anything I need But don't tell me, "this is all there is" 'Cause there's got to be more Wandering all around In debt to them and everyone Broken, on the ground again The cold wind blows everywhere Bundled up, but still aware Of the chill that travels through the mind (chorus) (guitar solo) Counting the cracks on the wall The state of mind we try to stall But it just ends up coming in the end The light ahead seems so clear It's just a glimmer, though so dear To those of us needing it right now (chorus)
Gainsbarre
I am the quintessential quadrasexual, Triple sensual, double textural. jabe
This is a fluff piece I wrote when I was 18 and a freshman in college.(I use 19 because I thought it worked better with the second line) It's about a girl in my Latin class. We studied together after class and she eventually became an intimate friend. Our connection began and ended over the course of one semester. Nineteen years And half as many beers, My passion started to rise. Soon to be content Though my mind was bent, When I caught that little gleam in your eyes. You left me speechless And kept me breathless As fireworks roared over the sky. I thought that our fun Was good one on one Until you said you were in love with me And that wasn't good. Pretty mama That concludes my show Your pleasure has to bend. Please don't let it be the end. Pretty mama. Now you've learned my name And I've played your game You only fooled me For a minute or two. Because the magic wand Which you held in your hand Is more a part of me Than is part of you. I'll give you love I'll give you kisses Grant some of your wishes If they're ones I think you will choose. But if you don't get it right On the first try Then I guess we'll start this game again And rewrite new rules. Pretty mama That concludes my show Your pleasure has to bend. Just a little for me. Pretty mama.
jimmie ray
I would have left out the part about the beers, they're really not as romantic as you would think. Anyway this place needs a little livening up, Bo Didley would have wanted it this way. This is a simple blues number I just wrote for Bo (and Nathan): I got the cowbell blues baby, you know I just can't get enough I got the cowbell blues baby, lookin' for more of that stuff I might come sniffin' roun' your barn door later If the owner don't like that, I say it's tough... Well ring-a-ling baby, ring-a-ling all night long Ring-a-ling baby, hear that cowbell goin' strong If that other bull don't like it He sure can tell it to my horns.... We got that cowbell clangin', I sure feel it in my bones Got that cowbell clangin', no way I'm headin' home If some other cow don't like it She sure ain't gonna dig this song... Nathan
Might as well post this one again. I've posted it before, and I'm quite proud of it. Let me tell you the story. Proselytizers are possibly my biggest pet peeve. They annoy the hell out of me. At the same time, however, fucking with them is so much fun. So what I did once, after a door-to-door religious salesman showed up at my stoop, was rewrite the lyrics to "Nobody's Fault but Mine." FYI, the music itself is pretty much the version done by Page/Plant, only reworked to include two acoustic guitar solos. Here are my reworked lyrics: Nobody's Fault but Mine Nobody's fault but mine Nobody's fault but mine If I don't change My soul be lost It's nobody's fault but mine They come-a knockin' at my door They come-a knockin' at my door They say if I don't change My soul be lost It's nobody's fault but mine They tellin' me that I'm wrong They tellin' me that I'm wrong They say if I don't change My soul be lost It's nobody's fault but mine Nobody's fault but mine Nobody's fault but mine If I don't change My soul be lost It's nobody's fault but mine And I don't care! (guitar solo 1) They shove their faith in my face They shove their faith in my face They say if I don't change My soul be lost It's nobody's fault but mine Nobody's fault but mine Nobody's fault but mine If I don't change My soul be lost It's nobody's fault but mine Nobody's fault but mine Nobody's fault but mine If I don't change My soul be lost It's nobody's fault but mine But I ain't changin' (guitar solo 2) Nobody's fault but mine Nobody's fault but mine I don't care What your truth is It's nobody's fault but mine
