  1. The biggest complaint is the modern overdubbed drums. I think the original Sea and Sand didn't have any but the box set demo does. Personally speaking the Quad demos from the box are great, the modern overdubbing doesn't bother me really. Townshend brought in a guy to drum on six or seven of the box set demos. It doesn't really stand out as modern drumming really, I think they did a nice job of blending it into the original tapes. My biggest bitch about the re-issue is they didn't use the original studio mix master tapes instead they re-used the 1996 remix again. To the hardcore that's death lol.

  3. It was the decade of the 1970's and people actually wore stuff like that. I don't think you have to overthink it, I just blame the 70's like I do for a lot of things.
  4. Oh hell yes, I have that forever recorded on the DVR. They played that in the states about a year or so ago on VH1 Classic. Literally brought tears to my eyes, they were special in their prime. I loved The Faces.
  5. Yes more or less that's true. I really liked his tone with Faces, you could tell it was him before you ever heard a vocal. That vanished too once he joined the Stones. There's a tune from the album Black and Blue called "Hey Negrita" which he played on even though he wasn't officially a member yet. I don't know if you've ever heard that but that was sort of the kind of thing I was hoping from him. That never further materialized either.
  6. Personally speaking, when Clapton plays electric blues Chicago style he sounds authentic. When he goes the delta blues route he sounds like he's copying. Acoustic delta blues is really some of the greatest music that's ever existed. You can learn how to play it but you can't always get that feeling or atmosphere that makes that music what it is. EC is better served playing electric, he sounds too sterile and sheet music like otherwise. IMHO
  7. That must be the case because everything I read online has Stones fans the world over all clamoring for Taylor to play again with them in 2012 if they do this tour. That's a great legacy to have, people haven't forgotten how it used to be. Major: Wood also ripped on YCAGWYW when I saw them too. That seems to be Wood's showcase on stage, his bit in the spotlight. I still wish the Woody from Faces would finally show up though.
  8. I don't think Wood is that bad a player, he made his presence known early but seems to have vanished over time. Personally speaking I'm disappointed how it all turned out. He was such a distinctive guitarist with Faces and those early Rod Stewart solo records. I thought he'd bring that to the Stones but he never really did.
  9. I grew up listening to Zeppelin. I bought all the albums as they came out and played them to death and their music was huge in my social circle of friends and family. But like you said your musical tastes develop over the years. Truth be told I hadn't really seriously listened to Zeppelin for years until I discovered this website. Ever since posting here I've gone back to playing their music again, on and off as the mood strikes. Back in the day Zeppelin was one of the bands that I loved and played endlessly. Things change but their music today (mostly) still sounds great to me. I can't quite say that I'm "hooked" anymore though.
  10. I really like technology but I love my wife above all else. How was that?
  11. Feeling the warmth of this forum always makes me joyous.
  12. Watts is a very interesting person and has always been a lot more than just a rock n roll drummer. That BBC interview was pretty great and featured some great music.
  13. Wifey bought me a Kindle Fire which was totally unexpected. I ripped my 1990 Zeppelin box set and uploaded it to Google music so I can listen via the Kindle remotely whenever I want to. . I love technology..........I love my wife too.
  14. When I saw the Stones back in 2005 I thought Wood was way better than I expected him to be. They didn't play Time Waits though but they did do a killer version of Midnight Rambler............. All things considered I'd still much rather see Mick Taylor with them again, they were a different band with him.
  15. I have no idea how good Taylor's chops are today but I have a feeling you're right. He strikes me as the kind of musician who can just pick up a guitar cold and play without missing a note. If Taylor doesn't take part in this.............fail.
  16. Actually that's pretty funny. Didn't Gene Simmons always say he wanted to be as big as the Beatles?
  17. Well with that collection in your posession I can't blame you for not caring lol.
  18. A friend of mine brought over his Apple USB stick containing 24 bit remasters of the entire Beatles catalogue. The fidelity is staggering, I've never heard the 24 bit versions before. Apparently their entire catalogue was remastered to 24 bit but then dithered down to 16 bit for CD release. What you're hearing here is the original audio restoration as intended. That's too hi fi geek even for me, sorry but.............it is a remarkable listening experience. http://www.amazon.com/Beatles-USB/dp/B002VH7P4O/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1323983101&sr=8-1
  19. "Absolutely Live" has been re-issued on 180 gram vinyl in its' original song configuration. I'm thankful daily I bought a turntable again. http://www.amazon.com/Absolutely-Live-2LP-Gram-Vinyl/dp/B0031Y4AQC
  20. Sadly this Hey Jude LP has been lost to time. What was cool about that album was it took their singles and put them on a 33 1/3 LP. The fidelity leap (well with what I had at the time anyway) was a remarkable thing. It was a nice little collection of tunes for its' time.
  21. I'm attempting to quit too. I've decided to try an e-cigarette, you still get the nicotine but not the tar or other chemicals with the smoke. I haven't smoked a cigarette in a week but I can see at some point in time I'll have to wean myself off the e-cig too. Still, after a pack a day habit for decades I'm technically not smoking........well kinda. I've suddenly got money in my pocket again too. Bonus days.
