  1. Well I only saw Van Halen twice but both times were with the original lineup. They were high energy deluxe and they rocked very hard. The first time I saw them they opened for Journey (who had just put out their first album with Steve Perry)........poor Journey didn't have a chance in hell VH did a 45 minute opening set and walked off. I think their first album was out for like a week or two? People were slack jawed, they were epic.
  2. Like I posted in that eras thread, 1980's REM to me was as good as it got for a long stretch of time. I played all of their LP's to death, this one probably most of all. Lifes Rich Pageant was a great great album.
  3. I think at some point a person has to back up their viewpoint with facts. Anyone can spew forever and it gets tiring as hell but really, facts talk the loudest. Unfortunately he never did, except once very recently in another thread here. Message received then.
  4. http://dogeatdog.michaelmoore.com/synopsis.html What happened in Flint years ago is now everywhere. Nobody can nor will stop it either.
  5. How is it jabberwocky? Socialism isn't right wing, social engineering isn't right wing either. Corporatism in which private business and the government conspire to fund the war machine and control private liberty of the people is facism. The out of control nationalism that the Nazi's preached was extreme right wing. They were a mix of everything, quit throwing out your personal view as fact and do your homework.
  6. "I Dunno. Well to my understanding, Hitler was a a moderate republican. Do you guys really want someone like Hitler to be running the country? No. Vote Barrack Obama. Before you republican nazis thumbs down me, think about it for a second. Who is correct? A nutcase republican like you, or an intelligent democrat like me? Obviously me." That was the second response in that "discussion" thread. It was hard for me to read past that but I did. I ended up agreeing with those who said the Nazi's were a combination of the extreme right wing but also the extreme left. National Socialism was a unique political movement which mercifully hasn't been repeated since.
  7. Jimi Hendrix overrated..............really. Words escape me.
  8. Sometimes board ops pull threads at their discretion. It happens. Unfortunately the Atlas thread was a good one, he or she knew their stuff. Agree or not it made for compelling reading.
  9. Missouri is the "show me" state. Why I haven't a clue but that's what it's called. So I guess when it comes to conspiracy theory he's basically saying "show me".
  10. I always get a kick out of that guy in the front row who's totally into Sunshine of your Love. Hair flying, trying to keep the beat, just totally into it. I bet he tells his grandkids today that he was there and saw this. Hell I would, this is something you'd never forget. Cream were epic. Great post, thanks.
  11. There was a conspiracy theory thread here started by Atlas, but I can't seem to find it. Pity, it was pretty good. Today's consipracy theories are tomorrow's mainstream news headlines......
  12. Maybe it's just easier to keep saying "the mighty Led Zeppelin" and be done with it. Or then again, maybe not.
  13. If I had the 400.00 to spend, this: http://store.acousticsounds.com/d/74106/Robert_Johnson-The_Complete_Original_Masters_-_Centennial_Edition-Vinyl_Box_Sets
  14. This is obviously my own opinion, but I would have to say that Jimmy Page is more of a GOD than Eric Clapton. This is my reasoning for saying that............................ Eric Clapton was the first white guitarist who took the blues and ran with it to (at that time) unheard of levels. Steve Van Zandt from Springsteen's band said Clapton was the 'binary code' for all rock players and the music they make. Clapton was the first, it's undisputable. Page was a session musician during this time, little else. To bring Jimmy Page into any kind of comparison (or Jeff Beck or anybody else really) is absurd. Clapton was the first guy, before anybody else. Was he the best ever? No I don't personally think so but I don't think that's the reason for this thread I don't think. The kids in London spray painted "Clapton is God" back then. They must have thought so at the time, don't you think? Find one of them who's still alive and well and ask them why they did this.
  15. Good grief, what the hell has that got to do with anything regarding this subject? Start a thread on the evils of the Catholic Church if you want to. Strider's post can easily fit in the PC thread by the way. I agree with all of what was said.
  16. LoL, no I know Jim is long gone. I remember when they announced it on the radio, sad sad day. I do have a lifelong buddy who to this day will tell you he's not though. He couldn't take the pressure of stardom and fame, went to Paris, faked it and got on with his life. Others used to think this too. Most have gotten over it though, my friend never quite has.
  17. "Southern Rock Opera" by Drive-By Truckers is tremendous. Great band, great playing and great writing with a story to be told as Jahfin said. Trust me, I am NOT a "southern rock" kinda guy either. Never was, never will be either but this particular album is in a class by itself.
  18. Reckoning was a great album too. It was a glorious time when they went back to doing acoustic sets........
  19. LoL, I have to hand it to you Electrophile , you do speak your mind. I don't necessarily disagree with you either by the way. I don't dislike Stairway but it's very overrated. My choice in this poll is Carouselambra. It's not the Zeppelin I care to remember.
  20. There is much that came after this, but as a starting point you can't do much better (in my humble non-deadhead opinion)...........
  21. I agree, you'll get no argument from me about that. Hopefully this Quad box set will singal that PT has finally given up the concept of "The Who" as a working band and concentrate on releasing archive live shows and the like. That's really what I'm hoping for, there isn't a Who anymore.
  22. Really? Well you really should, it's the best live album I've ever heard. Forty years since I first heard it I think it still is.
