  1. 😂 Brilliant, Strider! A mate of mine in the '80s channeled Jimmy in everything he did - but everyone thought he was trying to look like Craig Johnston who played for Liverpool! 😁
  2. Me in the early '80s. Ah, come on, everyone in England wanted to be Jim Morrison when they were 19! And, no, that's not a perm...
  3. People tend to forget just how derided Sabbath were before grunge led to them being reappraised in the early 90s. Prior to that, Sabbath fans were definitely a breed apart - there was something about Sabbath that connected with particular people in ways that other bands didn't. I was one of them and the endless shit I used to hear from normal rock fans who didn't get it - they can't sing, they can't play, they're too heavy, they're too slow, there's no melodies, blah, etc. As if any of that ever mattered in the slightest. It's not a talent contest. The only thing that matters: 'do you like it?'
  4. Had it last week. AstraZeneca version. Straight in the left shoulder like a flu jab. Zero side effects afterwards. I'm not worried about the vaccine or the prospect of it turning me into a Bill Gates social credit drone. Whereas I would be worried if I caught covid: I know someone who played a last gig on the eve of lockdown last year, contracted covid at it, spent weeks on a ventilator in an induced coma in the Critical Care Unit at Sheffield's Northern General Hospital, was in the CCU for six months in total, was so fucked he had two strokes while he was in there, can now barely walk, hasn't fully regained his speech and will never work, let alone play his damn bass, again. Long covid means he's screwed for the rest of his life - and he's only 52. Sod that shizzle.
  5. Dodgy heroin, dodgy needle. Or, - of all the rotten luck - Tommy just slept awkwardly with his arm under him. Hmm, let's see...
  6. Eric Bloodaxe and the Disco Pumas. The Not-Really Brothers. The Exploding Mountbattens. Fistduckers. Police Car.
  7. Robert play second guitar? What was it Jimmy said when he saw Eddie Kramer's photos of Robert with his guitar outside Stargroves? 'That fucking prat - I told him never to touch my guitar!', wasn't it? 😂
  8. I saw him sing a bit of a Kylie song once. Doesn't mean he's wrong about Radiohead, though...
  9. Yeh, we always used to howl whenever Glenn Hughes trotted out that 'Tommy fell asleep on his arm' yarn. As feeble excuses go, that's up there with my homework ate the dog and Skylab fell on my nan...
  10. Baffled as to how anyone could hear anything other than 'where I've been', to be honest! I'm in the 'no solo needed' camp on this one, too.
  11. It's been at least a month, so...
  12. Had an Australian girlfriend in the early 90s. Broke up when she went back to Oz and wanted me to go with her. Couldn't be done - can't even stand the heat and sun of a British summer, so can you imagine if I'd gone to Collaroy Beach?! 🥵
  13. Yes, Sherry Jackson was the best of em - followed by Marianna Hill:
  14. Depressing. Snow, cold and wind all gone. Blue skies and mild, now - in February, FFS! Spring is coming - even to Yorkshire! I'm not happy. Ok, ok, I mean, I'm even less happy than usual...
  15. Reading the subject heading alone made me want to rip my face off, slowly. Sort of down and to the right, obvs.
  16. True - Johnny's scraped more than one barrel over the years... And Ebbets Field definitely needs more exposure:
  17. 'Welcome to slavery.' 'No thanks, I already had a wife!'
  18. Yes indeed, those were the two Nottingham gigs - I had a tape of the second one and a slightly better version eventually actually came out as Down In Flames. Parts of Rock City's notorious sticky floor were still on my boots four years later...felt like it, anyway! I still remember the disappointment when Jane's didn't come back to Sheffield in 1990 and the nagging frustration knowing that they were playing in Leeds and Manchester around the times of these Notts gigs but I only had the money for one gig and had to choose! How criminal is it that I had to miss two Jane's gigs for the sake of about 30 quid?! Answer: criminal!
  19. Interesting, this. It's strange when you've been aware of a phrase like 'sixes and sevens' for as long as you can remember and you know what means, but you didn't actually know why it means that or what its derivation is. Good stuff.
