  1. What’s going on Inspector. We will have to respectfully disagree with each other. There was a lot of hate for that band when they came out, and it was generated by some of the bands at that time. There is an excellent article done in 2017 by Dave Everley in Classic Rock. The band that they could be compared to would be Led Zeppelin. They like Zeppelin didn’t have to slog through years of indie labels and their album core sold 8 million records. They wrote very good songs, lifted from the groups they listened to some. Many riffs are watered down Zeppelin riffs. But to compare them to Nickleback is in my opinion way off. Listen to Scotts lyrics. That man is one of the greatest lyricists of his generation. I know that Eddie Vedder talked shit when they came out, and I believe a few others, but that was my era, I was fortunate enough to have seen them open for Robert Plant and Lenny Kravitz, and then several other shows, I was fortunate enough to see Alice N Chains, and I also say Pearl Jam several times. Vocally Eddie couldn’t compare or compete with either Layne, or Scott. He sounded like sheep boy fro SNL. Again that’s just my opinion. Prince I was also fortunate enough to see several times. One of the greatest guitarists ever. He could do it all, just one of the best entertainers of all time who had many different styles. Growing up in the 80’s and becoming a supposes adult in the early 1990’s I do think we had some of the best of both worlds. Late 1980’s early 1990’s music was really good, got away from that new wave, and the hair metal. With that some really good bands came out, and we were lucky enough to still have the music that our parents grew up on. Seeing the Stones in 1994, Neil Young on several occasions, Page and Plant, Plant solo, Lynyrd, Bad Company, Santana, Van Halen, damn what an amazing time. That is why I personally feel it was as good a time as any. We had the groups of the 60’s and 70’s that were slightly younger than I am now out there killing it, plus the countless bands that were amazing for any generation all doing their thing. Plus being a huge Hip Hop fan we had all of that as well. Cheers Z1.
  2. This is fantastic! My wife and I just laughed out asses of to this. I also have to say that the synchronization was awesome.
  3. Try as I might I can’t stand Deep Purple. Of any era. Obviously a few talented musicians in the band. Not arguing that. But they have always seemed like a cover band playing cover music to me. Other than a handful of songs “ The Who “ do not do it for me either. Best 3 bands Led Zeppelin, Stones, Prince, and if I’m going to put one band from my generation it is STP and tied with Layne Alice N Chains. And Janes Addiction. They were brilliant. So a few more than 3.
  4. They still have the Wallabees at my local show shop. It is also called the sock shop in Santa Cruz. I have a pair of the dark brown. Love them. Super comfortable. For a random thought. I was reading about Robert, they had an article about Robert playing with his band Saving Grace. In said article was the 2007 performance of Rock and Roll. What a great performance by Robert. And the band sounded great. Just an amazing performance. To see Jimmy and John huddled around Jason on drums, Robert sounded great. It then lead me to listen that show. What an amazing night for them, and us as fans.
  5. I appreciate your thoughts, and your posts Steve. As I just said you make me laugh even when I don’t agree with anything you are saying. Plus your knowledge of this band is insane. Back to the dead thread.
  6. Well Reid’s it seems as if you are the hall monitor when you feel like it. I was simply saying that it may be insensitive to just say “ screw him for making the choices he made”. Further more he had an enlarged heart which is its own medical condition aside from whatever else he may have been doing. Alcohol has killed far more people than any drug you can think of. That is not up for dispute or debate. I was simply just saying that we can say RIP to a man and not have to act like his life didn’t mean shit because of drugs he chose do. I would guess that no one on this thread including Mr. Steve A Jones wouldn’t have been so flippant about John Henry Bonhams passing. He did overdose on alcohol. Yes he choked on his own vomit. Asphyxiation is a terrible way to go. That’s the how my own brother passed. I am not disputing Steve’s contributions to this site, thread, and forum. I may not agree with everything he says, however I have read Steves posts more than anyone on this thread. His knowledge is incredible, his meme game is on point. As a person who has dealt with overdoses in their family I was simply just saying maybe let’s truly let him Rest In Peace. Now onto the thread highjack. BobDobbs Meme game is vicious, and his empathy, humor, and contributions are also very appreciated. Alright Hall Monitor back to the regularly scheduled thread. RIP Academy Awards.
  7. They were different and very similar in a lot of ways. Specifically musically. The great thing about that era for me was, you had an amazing amount of good music coming out from bands in the late 80’s early 90’s like Janes addiction, STP, Alice, Smashing, all kinds of groups, but you still had guys like Neil Young, Page and Plant, the Stones, Paul, Pink Floyd, Grateful Dead, The Who, Lynyrd, Paul Rogers, all kinds of groups that were a decade or two older than that generation and still around their prime performing and we were able to see great performances from that generation, your generation that is, along with our generation and it was in my opinion one of the greatest eras of music. Simply because we still had the greatest era, along with a pretty good era of music. That late 80’s early 90’s era was certainly better than the Hair Metal crap that was from 83-88. That was a dreadful period in music with a few exceptions. Prince, and a few others. Cheers. Hope to hear more of your music Red.
  8. I agree with you. STP were amazing, many groups in that era were. I hate to be this guy, but Eddie Vedder always bothered me. 10 was a god album. But Alice, STP, Rage, RHCP, Soundgarden, shit many bands were putting out superior music in my opinion. Scott, and Layne are in my top 5-10 front men ever. Loved both of those guys. Scott was an unbelievable vocalist and song writer .
  9. There was a great local bookstore in Santa Cruz. Logos, it carried everything from books to music and coffee. Got my favorite Zeppelin Bootleg ever from that place in 95. I’ll post a picture of the Bootleg. It is a mix of 5 CD’s that spans the years. Has some Celtic designs on it along with a booklet with pictures of the men through their career together. I’ve never seen another copy. But I love local book stores. They are a dying industry. At least in the Bay Area.
  10. What we should do is send up some American Jets with the Chinese AKA Gyna Flag on our F-22 Jets and bomb the shit out of the Russia. Then sit back and watch China and Russia go to war with each other. That’s a direct quote from the obese Orange Orangutan. Brilliant. That guy is a thinker. What’s funny about that is him talking tough in any way shape or form. That fat piece of shit couldn’t fight his way out of a wet paper bag. And never once was in a fist fight. Let alone an actual combat zone. What a joke.
  11. You got that right. What a wonderful time of year.
  12. Come on Steve. People have struggles. As a man who lost his older brother to a drug overdose when he was 38 and I was 34 it sucks no matter how the person goes. Certainly I went through periods of anger. But I’m sure all of us who have lost people to addiction have dealt with that part of it. And I doubt you felt that way when Mr. Bonham passed. Doesn’t matter if it was drugs or alcohol. It’s all the same. Rest In Peace Taylor. I am honestly sorry to call you out on this. Just seems a little incentive.
  13. My wife bought me one a couple of years ago. Interesting find really. At our local Sylvan Music center in Santa Cruz, a guy had try to steal several guitars, in his attempt he dropped the Dragon, it had a very small dent that Sylvan fixed, but we got it on a deal as a result of that. I love the way it sounds. It is vicious!
  14. I understand having to sync up vocals with the performance, but that seems like he is lip singing.
  15. That blows! To bad he didn’t have a better show when you got to see them/him. But he did have some amazing performances in that span. And Robert found another range/vocal delivery around that time as well. And then when he left Page in 98, he was absolutely brilliant as well in the early 2000’s. I got to Robert a half dozen times from 2001 through 2013 and in the 2001 and throughout, his voice and performances were spectacular. In 2008 when I was able to see he and Allison at the Greek Theater in Berkeley even that laid back subdued show was amazing vocally. But Jimmy was out of his mind good through those years. Man how the time flies by. My wife and I were talking about my first concert seeing Robert the other day. I believe it was Oct 10th 1993 with Lenny Kravitz and STP. That was a rad show. It then sparked a memory of seeing Van Halen and Vince Neil, and Alice N Chains in 91. Vince performed terribly, I know he cut his set short, and Layne Staley and the boys were in incredible. VH were cool. But those days, the 1990’s were some incredible shows. That era was in my opinion one of the best. You had all/most of the bands from the late 60’s and 70’s on the road or reformed still in the midst of their primes, and some incredible new bands who were just absolute monsters. Great era.
  16. I am not saying this directly to you, or to be argumentative. But I feel that Robert has always been grossly underrated as a song writer. He wrote some incredible songs, far too many to list. TYG, Kashmir, Rover, Rain Song, ITE, and really most songs off of ITTOD, sick again, hell way too many to go over. From Led Zeppelin III on he crushed it for me lyrically. Certainly he also wrote some kick ass rock songs. With the riffs and foundations that the band was laying down, it couldn’t have called for some Bob Dylan type lyrics. That has to be said. For all the Beatles Fans, Helter Skelter was about a water amusement park ride. That’s facts. And many of their lyrics and songs were absolutely bubble gum and or about nothing. They did have some amazing songs as well. But it has to be stated that with black dog, or Dazed or Whole Lotta Love you can’t have some brilliant amazingly profound lyrics with those beats. It just can’t work. But his lyrics to me were always spot on. And he has continued to grow throughout his career. Just my opinion, Cheers.
  17. Agree with all of this and couldn’t have said it better.
  18. Alright, I’m digging this. You need to put that altogether with the other tracks you have recorded. That sound like David Lynch mixed with something more evil that David Lynch. But yeah man, I like that a lot. I played a few times and that shit is scary and depending on the interpretation it is deep. It would be cool to hear it all mixed together. Great job Red!
  19. I appreciate your opinion for sure. I have to say please listen to Rap God, and Godzilla from Em. They might be the best examples of Hip Hop ever. His skills are on full display, and I think if you gave each song a listen you would have a different appreciation for him. Being that I have a brother in the industry, I grew up in Hip shop crews, dance crews, party crews and gangs, he destroys it on another level. I’ll also find a way to put my little brothers stuff out on this forum, he makes his own beats, and his lyrical content is off the hook. Anyone who appreciates Hip Hop will be into it. I will say that we all have our own tastes and opinions, and I’m good with whatever people are into. But check out those two tracks and let me know how you feel after. Also get the lyrics to each of them. They are mind blowing!
  20. Correct me if I’m wrong, but are you not an American living in Japan? Certainly not crazy amounts of diversity. But I’m fine with the diversity in our country. I have a Hispanic little brother and sister that also have Filipino ancestry, and English, and Welsh. Are Americans not a soup kitchen of all kinds of races? And maybe I’m off base and not understanding your sarcasm? But I myself am very Caucasian and I’m okay with everyone melting together. I don’t look at race, color, religion, or anything. I would hope you are as well. Also, I recently got a signed Harmon Guitar that I want to send you pics of, as well as Led Zeppelin III Album signed by all members, I would like to send you the pictures of it and even though I have letters of authenticity, I would appreciate your knowledge on the subject. What is the proper place on the forum to present these pics. Cheers Steve.
  21. I really encourage you to listen to plant throughout all of their years. Certainly that raw primal guttural scream and howl that he had was on full blast during those years. And I love that Robert Plant voice. I would argue that in 71 he could not sing Trampled Underfoot the same way. It would not have sounded as good. He voice had changed and mutated. Certainly there are notes and octaves he is hitting at that time which no one was capable of. I would also say that the way he sang certain songs through certain years needed the voice that he had at that time. Another example is Achilles, he would not have sounded the same on that song live as he did in 71 or before 71. Another favorite of mine is the way SIBLY was presented vocally in 77. Just amazing. Plant in 68-72 was just other worldly, but the way his voice matured, changed, and as he grew as a singer to me he progressed. Just my opinion, Cheers.
  22. Am I missing something with Ian G? I personally can’t stand his voice. I’m not debating his influence. I’m just not impressed with his voice in the slightest. That’s not to say I’m an authority on anything. But I posted this on another topic in this forum, I feel as if he was always trying to imitate someone and did a terrible job at it. His voice and I apologize for this, sounds like nails on a chalk board to me. I just don’t find him to have a good singing voice at all. Sorry if I’m offending anyone. But to even compare him to Robert is an insult to me. Sorry for the derailment of the random thread. I guess I just really dislike that man voice.
