bigzepfan Posted May 5, 2011 Share Posted May 5, 2011 They were all amazing. The whole show was just incredible. Alot tighter than last year it seemed. Achilles was just simply stunning to witness. Jason was just hammering away at them skins, James hitting the highs like a heavenly god and Tony with the bow!!! Stairway was done just brilliantly. Not sure if it was changed from last time or not or whether these guys just really freaking nailed it tonite. They dropped Whole Lotta Love, but that's OK, the new additions were worth it. I don't think he ever mentioned the new bass players name. He jammed out, but I must say I really really liked Michael Devlin. Rock On!!! I'm a lead guitar guy....Gotta Love Tony!!! The second night I was front row - seated- and calmer - and got a chance to really check out the band. I never noticed how - just into it- stephen LeBlanc is - the first few times i glanced his way I just saw aveage playing. Last Night He got into his instrument sooo much. It was so great to C. In the Light was simply stunning. "Everyobody needs the light" is still ringing in my head. Dorian Heartsong - didn't move alot on stage, however his bassline is SOLID. It seems like he's playing the songs almost effortlessly - and that says alot for his skill level. I was fortunate enough to see Powerman 5000 once or twice. Loved them! I miss Michael Devin already, but Dorian is THERE!!! I'm really happy to report that these guys are tearing up the concert scene. Both nights fans were just ecstatic about the performances, the choice of songs, and the overall experience. ...and can't leave this out. A very ambitious female fan jumped right up onstage and started dancing with the band. She was bouncing away until security bounced her off. I went abit nuts myself during Stairway. Jason motioned for everyone to come down to the front. I kind of, well actually I DID, just go freaking nuts and tried to get alot of people to come down in front of the stage myself, turning around and waving people down. Security must just LOVE ME!!!! It's all in the name of ROCK AND ROLL! If anyone has video please post it. I can't wait 2C myself and the other fan on vid!!! Thank You Jason and the Gang!!!! CU Tuesday!!!! I wish he didn't turn on the wah pedal for the solo. It looks like he was trying to add more brightness to the sound. A treble booster pedal would have done the trick. (Brian May is one such user) He is a good guitar player, staying true to all the studio track notes and sounds. However, playing Zeppelin tracks exactly doesn't provide a complete picture of his skills as a musician, that would require him to play some of his own stuff . SteveAJones Posted May 8, 2011 Author Share Posted May 8, 2011 This review of the JBLZE concert in Atlantic City from Paul Hammond via For Badgeholders Only (Led Zeppelin Mailing List)... I attended the Atlantic City NJ concert last night with my long time friend and Zeppelin camp aficionado JR Warner. First and foremost, we had a great time! All of the band members are extremely proficient on their instruments and are true professionals. If you are a fan of Led Zeppelin then I highly recommend this show, as it is a unique Led Zeppelin concert experience that differs from others out there touring today. To me it was the perfect blend of live and studio performances melded together, with some essential overdub parts, and some different parts Zeppelin never did live or in the studio. Jason's drumming has improved since the O2 millennium center LZ reunion. His groove and timing and feel are definitely more relaxed and behind the beat - and his kick drum from audience perspective sounds more like his Father's kick drum. After the show we were able to go to the VIP meet and greet hang (Thanks JR!) and I told Jason this directly and he said, that's the difference between having my sound guy mix it and Metallica's sound guy mix it! I also thanked him for doing what he is doing, and that his Father would be proud of him. Pre -Show we saw James Dylan in the lobby looking for his sister and we immediately started talking shop and he was going off about Paul Sinclair and GTLO and I was like oh no man, you and the Virtual Zeppelin stuff you did is awesome! And congrats on a great gig! JR wanted me to meet Tony, so we were able to go see him with James' sister and hang a little pre-show. Tony is great, a real deal guy who has monster chops, and a great attitude, both on and off stage. Dorian Heartsong was there too, and the conversation invariably turns to gear and talking shop again, the tour manager comes in and says - "we have to clear the room in twenty minutes" so having heard that a zillion times we left right away, so they could get ready for the show. The biggest annoyance at the show was drunk people in the back yelling at the band during the quiet parts, and while Jason was speaking. It could have been louder overall as well, as the people yelling during the show actually drowned out the music at points. The musicians were all wearing in ear monitors, which partially isolate them from the outside world so for the most part these people were yelling in vain, and only for their own amusement. Other audience members turned around and were yelling back - "let him speak". At several points of the concert some girls ran down front to dance and were very rudely escorted back to their seats by the security goons they had working that night. There were a couple of technical glitches during the show, but nothing that would affect the average listener from enjoying themselves. We got a good chuckle out of it afterwards with Tony and Steve LeBlanc, how at shows where you think you played your worst fans will say - "that's the best I've ever heard you play" and when you know you totally nailed it - "nada". The video screens were good for the home videos and the Moby Dick duel, but at some points were distracting from the music. If they had shut them off at some points I wouldn't have cared in the least. Speaking with the fans was also great, I recognized and shook hands with a ton of people, but the best was when the guy who watched the concert all night in the row across from us says "So....Zeppelin comes to see Zeppelin!" - a truly humbling experience to me, as he had seen our act at Nokia Theater Times Square and was going into great detail about our show, and how we were nice to his kid, and can't wait to see us again. After the show we talked a bit more shop with the band and shared road stories, we didn't bend Jason's ear too much as the girls backstage were all over him as he was signing drumheads and sticks and shirts and stuff. Once again, the conversation turned to gear and song parts, and sounds, with Steve LeBlanc, Tony, and James...... All in all it was a very positive musical experience that does need to be shared by Jason for his own reasons, whatever they may be. I would see the show again and so should you! ZoSoJo Posted May 8, 2011 Share Posted May 8, 2011 Just a real quick note: Last night I saw LBLZE in Concord, New Hampshire at the Capitol Arts Center. The show was an amazing, dignified tribute to John and the band. Jason told personal stories, shared old home movies and ROCKED OUT the hall. Some details from the show: He is picking 1 charity per city to raise funds by selling laminates for $20 in exchange for a chance to go back stage and a chance to win his drum set on June 1. Last night's charity was the Capitol Arts Center Tickets Fund (for low-income and other folks in crisis). I think this is a wonderful addition to the show more musicians should take the lead and do this. (my ticket was 3 numbers off~). The set was pretty much the above list. The age range in the audience was from 10-70 easy! It was so nice to see parents and maybe grandparents, bringing the next generation to the show. I saw a young girl around the age of 10 wearing a LZ t-shirt dancing in the aisle! Everyone was up and down the whole night, but everyone stood through the whole of Stairway to Heaven. (as it should be) I couldn't help but wonder how he does it every night. It's a very emotional tribute and he appeared to get choked up at least once. He truly misses his Dad and is sad that they didn't get to play together. I'm so glad I went and didn't listen to the nay-sayers who are criticizing this program. Jason and his band mates do a stunning job of paying respectful tribute to the music. It's clear he fully understands his fathers contribution to the world of music. The Rover Posted May 10, 2011 Share Posted May 10, 2011 For those that may seen the JBLZE last year, and have seen it this year, I was wondering if you could tell if it was "Louder" this year than it was last year. I was the JBLZE in one of the larger halls on the tour, the Dallas Fair Park Music Hall, nad my only complaint about the show, was that it was not "Loud" enoug, considering they were performing "Led Zeppelin" numbers... I'm certainly was not asking them to play at the same volume that LZ did, but... I have played my 100 watt home stereo system louder, or so it seems, than what I experienced at the 2010 show. I suppose at smaller halls, the sound seems louder, or, if you are in the first 10 rows, I guess you get the stage monitors helping out. The hallmark of a LZ show, was that, even if you were in the back, or in the nosebleed sections, you still got a full impact show.
