Major Major
Well, only one - left ring finger. Just picked up my gtr for 1st time in a year or more...and now I already have a blister on my bending fingertip. Any tips for how to heal it quickly? Should I burst it? Anything I can do to dry it out without bursting it - dip it in cement, or some chemical? And then, when it's gone, how can I harden the skin quickly so I don't get more blisters?? Someone told me about using a hairdryer on them until they hurt...?
DAS
I don't have any tips but I do have sympathy. I remember how much it sucked first learning/relearning guitar when your fingertips are not callous.
docron
Try these strings I found in our local shop. I think they're called Yarns (was a while ago when I got them). I use the 3.25 sts's on my hollow body and they're pretty decent for blues/rock. I don't do a whole lot of bends.
zepscoda
let it burst, and keep playing.........blood is good for a rosewood fret board......LOL.........now if your fret board is ebony, I have no advice on how to proceed Edited September 3, 2012 by zepscoda
the chase
I'm not a guitarist, but when I get a blister, I pop it with a needle and douse it with rubbing alcohol. It stings, but it seems to work and dry it out. My wife is diabetic and has to poke her fingers many times a day to check her blood sugar, She says the fingers on that hand are naturally calloused from the cutting and healing. mickey g
Pickle Juice – Nolan Ryan used to soak his finger in pickle juice between starts to prevent and heal any finger blisters that he had or felt coming on. This has been one of the most common answers to how to treat, cure, and prevent a finger blister and is now one of the old baseball remedies for finger blisters. sickagain98
You can get some fake fingertips or something. Other than that, I have no more suggestions. :\
reswati
Keep bleeding and use it as a show element. Maybe in time you can learn to squirt out streams of blood and shoot people in the first row with it. Would be kinda cool, like the thing Gene Simmons never did. jabe
Play like you got your ill finger caught in say, like, a door of some kind, and that you can't use it. For me, when I lay off a few weeks, it hurts like a bitch for awhile, but I don't get blisters on my fingers. You should pick it up more often, problem solved. Stryder1978
My callouses are pretty thick and I play at least 4 times a week to keep 'em that way. If I had to start from scratch, I'd cover my fingertips with a couple layers of "liquid band-aid" It's a solution that doctors use to use exclusively after an operation, but it is now sold over the counter. I use it all the time for cuts and scrapes where a normal band-aid won't work or stay on. I'd apply a few layers to each fingertip and that SHOULD prevent a blister. Plus you'd still be able to have all the feelings in your fingertips.
