Thomasw536
Robert often came across too femanate and pretended he was this hippie free spirit on a journey, when in fact he was just sitting around hotel rooms getting stoned every night after shows. He was just too girly for me.

Plant started his "fey" period of stage posing and blouse wearing right when Bowie hit it big with Ziggy and the whole androgyny bit. If you look at Robert's arc as a stage performer you will see he was more a follower of trends insofar as social and fashion were concerned. First, he starts out as a hippy in sandals and t-shirts; then grows facial hair when that became the style; 72' - 75' you see the androgynous Plant; by 77' even though he still wears the blouse his stage actions and persona are considerably more masculine than 72'-75'; finally the 79'-85' stage shows Plant in varying stages of New Wave glory. TBH I will take the foppish 73' Plant over stirrup pants / jumpsuit with massive vinyl belt and ballet shoes Plant of 85' any day. That shit he wore in 85' on stage was a goddamned crime. I believe even George Michael & Andrew Ridgely cringed a few times. Of course the ladies feel the foppish Plant was sexy as hell so, score 1 for Plant and jack shit for me. Plant was banging groupies by the bakers dozen night after night so obviously the androgyny angle worked. Meanwhile I type this nonsense in a state of complete sexual frustration and quiet desperation. Aww screw it, Plant is a frigging genius while I am armchair quarterbacking 40 years after the fact. I am out...time to watch some low rent porn while wishing I was 73' Plant in all his foppish, vagina-hound glory.

FL6
Live, the harmony guitar part Page does near the end of Black Dog.
jasonlovesvids
Plants flower shirts and them being open. Page's dragon suit - the black one and the white one. JPJ's outfit with the radishes, or,whatever, hanging from the elbow. Richard Cole LZ not giving proper credit on some of the blues songs and Dazed and Confused. It would have stopped a lot of criticism. John Bindon. Presence was to short. One more good song and it would have done it.

But Jimmy looks fantastic in them. Only he could get away with that. I also think Jimmy is probably my favorite guitar player as far as his presence on stage. You can tell how much he loves the music. He seems rather shy and quiet but really comes to life on stage.

But yeah, would be nice to have actual information!

Did he ever talk about them in detail?
porgie66
I don't like when Plant's voice cracks when he yells " good evening" . I mean if he can't get that out you know it's gonna be a rough night in the vocal dept.

I would think so, it makes logical sense as one is a direct reference (poppies), and the other is a strong metaphor (dragons) to Opioids. Jimmy pretty much took the concept Nudie has developed in the late 60's with his designs and threw poppies and dragons on them. They were a 70's fad and was adopted by the glam rock artists in particular. Thank god the fashion died by the late 70's and Jimmy ditched them as I too thought all except the black dragon suit were ridiculous, but even that suit should have been retired after 75'. ThreeSticks
The absolutely horrible teaser of The Rover right after TSRTS on the 1977 tour. The decision to not use a phaser or some other effect to cover up Jimmy's sloppy playing really revealed how bad JP's issues were at the time. Some of the versions on bootleg are downright horrible and embarrassing. I particularly dislike it because The Rover, IMO, is one of LZ's most underrated songs. But it needs the guitar effect that's on record. He should've played a regular electric 12 string on TSRTS (so he didn't have to carry that big beast around) and put on Gibson #1 and played The Rover in its entirety. Bonzo was a massive James Brown fan, and as JPJ once said, that is what separates him from all of the heavy metal drummers. His love of R&B. I bet Bonzo played a big part on getting The Crunge on the album, because it is essentially a James Brown groove. As far as Jimmy's suits are concerned.....I liked the black ones he used for TSRTS and on the 1975 tour (Earl's Court). Didn't like the white one from 1977. Too many musicians wore white satin capes and such during the 70's. But the black ones gave him a certain mystique, like he was a God of rock. Particularly during the bow sections of DAC. It was interesting that for Knebworth that Jimmy ditched the white suit and decided to dress like an office worker! The 1980 Tour over Europe was like a jeans and T-Shirt thing or casual suits with skinny punk ties. I actually thought Plant looked cool at Knebworth. Got to show some skin for the chicks. But he looked a little tougher. Edited March 3, 2017 by ThreeSticks

ThreeSticks
I know, it's easy to get envious about a guy whose getting laid with a snap of his fingers, and so you want to find some way to put the guy down even though you secretly want what he's got. Plant was the definition of a rock star: all the chicks wanted to be with him, and all the guys wanted to be like him. If you've got those 2 things covered, your band is going to be popular. The fact that Plant is a highly intelligent person who is well versed in history, legends and mythology makes him all the more interesting. craigled
I wish there were a few more little bits of merch available. Like keyrings, badges, patches. You know what i mean. The cheaper items you got as a kid. Although this is not something i do not like about the band. It is sort of related. JeffLZ
I wish they had expanded their US set list to include other songs from their albums. By 77, they had played SIBLY too many times, great song, but come on. In their 77 set list, they should have left off SIBLY, No Quarter, White Summer/Black Mountain Side, maybe Moby Dick, Black Country Women, possibly a few others. They should have included, maybe, Over the Hills and Far Away, Misty Mountain Hop, For your Life, others......
