justwastintime03
There's a hip hop band called Bomb The Bass who's song "Bug Powder Dust" has the following lyrics: Houses of the Holy like Jimmy Page But the song remains the same so I'm stuck in a rage Hey, great lyrics, Roxie, you reminded me of another hip hop group called "Common Sense". They performed a song called "The Light". These lyrics reminded me of Jimmy because imo, ever since he became a veritable "silver fox", he has somewhat of a luminescence about him. Here are some of the lyrics: The Light by Common Sense ... I will be by your side, so, so... There's so much in a name and so much more... You my light, If Heaven had a height You would be that tall... It don't take a whole day To recognize sunshine... ... Peace. aen27
The celtic song "She Moves Through The Fair." I've heard it inspired him for White Summer. Especially the version by Fairport Convention. Jimmy loved "Leig and Lief" and of course their connection with Zep. It's on the Island Records CD that comes with the new Uncut, which reminded me. Hi, aen27! I love the song you mentioned---"She Moves Through The Fair"! The version I heard was from John Renbourn and Jacqui McShee (both of Pentangle). Loved it!!! The lyric re: walking through the park reminds me of...you know..."we'll go walking through the park, everyday...come what may..." Just the idea of walking through the park with a significant other brings me contentment! Edited May 25, 2009 by justwastintime03
justwastintime03
Oops! Edit to correct the Renbourn/McShee song. It's really called "Blackwaterside". Sorry.

aen27
These make me think of Jimmy........... Dianah Washington's "Baby You've Got What it Takes" You know it takes more than effort to stay away from you And it takes more than a life time to prove that I'll be true And takes somebody special to make me say I do And baby, you've got what it takes and "You Stepped Out of A Dream" from Zigfield Girl Could there be eyes like yours Could there be lips like yours Could there be smiles like yours Honest and truely and the instrumental part of "Layla", because they all play it together at the end of the Arms Concert. Page-ist
Shouldn't you stay girl What's the next line "You'll never be the same"? If it's not it probably should be Purple Haze, and Hey Joe by Jimi. Purple Haze because Jimmy used the Hendrix chord several times like in the lemon song, and "they call me the hunter" part of how many more times to name a few. Hey Joe because Robert Plant says "I gave her the gun: I shot her" in a live version of In my time of Dying. Also cities on flame with rock and roll by blue oyster cult. Idont know why though. ledastray
There aren't really any that make me think of him personally but I did wonder if he and Joan Baez had had something going when I came across her version of "Black Is The Color Of My True Love's Hair." But I think she was involved with Dylan around that time so maybe it's about him...or no one in particular. It's a beautiful song although she sang it with a bit too much vibrato for my taste. ledastray
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hmwRTlMHHC0&list=PLMZEWP3eNq3N4DByOPU-70bvqehpjp99a I was listening to this and when she got to the line "If the young men could sing like blackbirds and thrushes/How many young girls would go beating the bushes?", I thought "There's the bustle in Robert Plant's hedgerow!" But back to JP: every time I hear a Van Halen song, I'm reminded of that one time long ago that EVH insulted him. I just learned about this recently. EVH's playing may be precise and sparkly but doesn't save VH songs from sounding callow and lacking in subtlety imo.

scylla
"Jimmy Mack", obviously. "Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow?". Makes me think of all the groupies. Quite the trail of broken hearts he's left, I would think. "Venus As A Boy" by Bjork: his wicked sense of humour suggests exciting sex his fingers they focus on her touches he's Venus as a boy he believes in beauty he's Venus as a boy he's exploring the taste of her arousal so accurate he sets off the beauty in her he's Venus Venus as a boy he believes in beauty he's Venus as a boy ... "Red Right Hand" and "Do You Love Me?" (Nick Cave). The first isn't a love song and the second's addressed to a woman, but they just capture what I think it would actually be like to fall for someone like that. It would all end in tears, and perhaps tragedy. Musically and lyrically, they just have this unbelievable, overpowering sense of something that would destroy you, coming your way, inexorable as a Greek tragedy. Take a little walk to the edge of town and go across the tracks Where the viaduct looms, like a bird of doom As it shifts and cracks Where secrets lie in the border fires, in the humming wires Hey man, you know you're never coming back Past the square, past the bridge, past the mills, past the stacks On a gathering storm comes a tall handsome man in a dusty black coat with a red right hand He'll wrap you in his arms, tell you that you've been a good boy He'll rekindle all the dreams it took you a lifetime to destroy He'll reach deep into the hole, heal your shrinking soul, but there won't be a single thing that you can do He's a god, he's a man, he's a ghost, he's a guru They're whispering his name through this disappearing land But hidden in his coat is a red right hand You don't have no money? He'll get you some You don't have no car? He'll get you one You don't have no self-respect, you feel like an insect Well don't you worry buddy, 'cause here he comes Through the ghettos and the barrio and the bowery and the slum A shadow is cast wherever he stands Stacks of green paper in his red right hand You'll see him in your nightmares, you'll see him in your dreams He'll appear out of nowhere but he ain't what he seems You'll see him in your head, on the TV screen And hey buddy, I'm warning you to turn it off He's a ghost, he's a god, he's a man, he's a guru You're one microscopic cog in his catastrophic plan Designed and directed by his red right hand ... I found her on a night of fire and noise Wild bells rang in a wild sky I knew from that moment on I'd love her till the day that I died And I kissed away a thousand tears My lady of the Various Sorrows Some begged, some borrowed, some stolen Some kept safe for tomorrow On an endless night, silver star spangled The bells from the chapel went jingle-jangle Do you love me...like I love you? She was given to me to put things right And I stacked all my accomplishments beside her Still I seemed so obsolete and small I found God and all His devils insider her In my bed she cast the blizzard out A mock sun blazed upon her head So completely filled with light she was Her shadow fanged and hairy and mad Our love-lines grew hopelessly tangled And the bells from the chapel went jingle-jangle All things move toward their end I knew before I met her that I would lose her I swear I made every effort to be good to her I swear I made every effort not to abuse her Crazy bracelets on her wrists and her ankles And the bells from the chapel went jingle-jangle Change the pronouns in "Do You Love Me?" and to me, that sounds like Jimmy. ... "Pictures of Lily" by The Who. Because I always hum "Pictures of Jimmy" in my head when I look at... well, pictures of Jimmy. "Sunny Afternoon" by the Kinks. I can just see him as that wasted rock star, almost too out of it to realize everything's falling apart. The tax man's taken all my dough, And left me in my stately home, Lazing on a sunny afternoon. And I can't sail my yacht, He's taken everything I've got, All I've got's this sunny afternoon. Save me, save me, save me from this squeeze. I got a big fat mama trying to break me. And I love to live so pleasantly, Live this life of luxury, Lazing on a sunny afternoon. In the summertime In the summertime In the summertime My girlfriend's run off with my car, And gone back to her ma and pa, Telling tales of drunkenness and cruelty. Now I'm sitting here, Sipping at my ice cold beer, Lazing on a sunny afternoon. ... Those are the songs that make me think of Jimmy in his youth. The one I associate with him as he is now is “The Whole Of The Moon” by the Waterboys: I pictured a rainbow You held it in your hands I had flashes But you saw the plan I wandered out in the world for years While you just stayed in your room I saw the crescent You saw the whole of the moon The whole of the moon You were there at the turnstiles With the wind at your heels You stretched for the stars And you know how it feels To reach too high Too far Too soon You saw the whole of the moon I was grounded While you filled the skies I was dumbfounded by truths You cut through lies I saw the rain-dirty valley You saw Brigadoon I saw the crescent You saw the whole of the moon I spoke about wings You just flew I wondered, I guessed and I tried You just knew I sighed But you swooned I saw the crescent You saw the whole of the moon The whole of the moon With a torch in your pocket And the wind at your heels You climbed on the ladder And you know how it feels To get too high Too far Too soon You saw the whole of the moon The whole of the moon Unicorns and cannonballs Palaces and piers Trumpets, towers, and tenements Wide oceans full of tears Flags, rags, ferry boats Scimitars and scarves Every precious dream and vision Underneath the stars Yes, you climbed on the ladder With the wind in your sails You came like a comet Blazing your trail Too high Too far Too soon You saw the whole of the moon Edited August 14, 2014 by scylla
riffsofpage
2nd vote for Love Removal Machine <guitar solo> - The Cult A definite homage to JP Jimmy's guitar technique is pioneering and unique to this day. JP, Beck, Clapton, Hendrix were the golden age, then came other envelope breakers to extend it: Eddie Van Halen ... SRV .....
