kashmiran Posted August 6, 2008 Posted August 6, 2008 I envy whoever recorded this. They witnessed something truly historic. Quote
cowbell666 Posted August 6, 2008 Posted August 6, 2008 it was recorded in a BBC studio. and there are simply too many recordings of WLL out there to pick a "best". Quote
kashmiran Posted August 9, 2008 Author Posted August 9, 2008 (edited) I am aware of where it was recorded. I mean that whoever the technician manning the recording booth was, that person witnessed a truly historic version. And your right. Far too many recordings. WLL - My top 5: 1. BBC Sessions - C'mon man, just LISTEN to it! 2. 7.27.73 (AKA TSRTS) - It's just so awfully powerful. Plus this version of Boogie Chillun kicks ass! 3. 8.11.79 (AKA Knebworth) - Yes, I said the 11th, and I meant it! It's just plain awesome! Plant gets his wail back, and Bonzo is in top form! Plus the "You need love" mid-section really adds to the song. 4. Royal Albert Hall 1970 - Plant just won't quit his ridiculous vocal-gymnastics! Not that that's a bad thing, mind you! 5. TIE: 6.25.72 / 6.27.72 (AKA HTWWW) - "I don't want much...Just a little bit!" Yeah, most of these are legitimately released versions, but they truly are my favorites, just the same. Trust me, though, I have heard bootlegs with this on it, in spite of this list, believe you me! Edited August 9, 2008 by kashmiran Quote
jimmy page66 Posted August 9, 2008 Posted August 9, 2008 1. Knebworth 4th 2. Southampton 1-22-73 3. RAH 1970 4. Vancouver 3-19-75 5. MSG 7-28-73 6. Knebworth 11th Quote

kashmiran Posted August 9, 2008 Author Posted August 9, 2008 i do love the bbc version, however i prefer the unedited one... The DISC 1 VERSION man! Not the crummy disc 2 version. I mean the 6:09 studio version on disc 1. [Which is unedited] Quote

Evster2012 Posted August 13, 2008 Posted August 13, 2008 Just listened to Vienna 1973. Pretty damn firey! Worth a serious revisit! In fact, I think I'll revisit it right now! Quote
kashmiran Posted August 13, 2008 Author Posted August 13, 2008 (edited) Wasn't that recorded in one take if I am not mistaken, at least the vocals were. Everything was recorded in one take except the guitar, which was overdubbed (partially) in a separate studio before the broadcast. Edited August 13, 2008 by kashmiran Quote

zooma Posted August 20, 2008 Posted August 20, 2008 I'd love to hear WLL from Vienna, the whole show for that matter but haven't gotten my hands on it yet. My favorite Whole Lotta Love at this moment is Berlin 1980. Bonzo's last song and show. The whole band was great on that one. Quote
Johnnie Gestappo Posted August 26, 2008 Posted August 26, 2008 Anybody hear 9-4-70? Blueberry Hill? I had that as a partial concert for 15 years before I got the complete concert, and WLL blew me away! Anyway other than that 71 BBC is up there, European 73' Band is on fire! ESP. Dazed and WLL. Poor Robert! Quote
