  1. Amoeba Records had posters. But yeah, I was surprised Best Buy and Target had nothing. Like I posted last week, Target didn't even mention the release in their ads...they seemed more interested in promoting Taylor Swift and Coldplay.
  2. Try brining your bird and cooking it upside down half the time to let the juices flow into the white meat portion. I had two Thanksgiving dinners to attend...the first one being a Vegan Thanksgiving. I made some yams baked with ginger and orange peel caramelized with vegan butter, brown sugar and Grand Marnier. Also made fresh cranberry sauce with a touch of the Grand Marnier. Photos from top to bottom are of the yams; the Tofurkey and green beans with mushrooms and crumb topping; and my plate with Tofurkey, cranberry sauce, stuffing, crescent rolls, yams, and green beans.
  3. One of the best things about Thanksgiving is the day after, when you make yourself a nice big Turkey sandwich with the leftovers. All I ate today were two turkey sandwiches on sourdough bread w/ Miracle Whip, mustard, cranberry sauce, stuffing and yams mashed on top of the turkey.
  4. Tommy Lee Jones is reported to be quite good in "Lincoln". Still on my "to-see" list. I don't blame you for disliking the narrator, ebk, as this movie was based on a slippery piece of shit book that has little to no credibility among Marilyn experts. Added to the problem of an untrustworthy protagonist is the fact that it's played by one of the most milquetoast actors since Chris O'Donnell...I think he's the same milksop that was in that soggy bog of shite "War Horse". Michelle Williams tried her best and she was better than expected, but it's almost impossible to portray a supernova like Monroe, where the public record is so vast and still fresh in the public's mind. Apparently it is the curse of the great movie goddesses to be portrayed by lesser peons. Audrey Hepburn is played the totally inappropriate Jennifer Love Hewitt and now Elizabeth Taylor is to suffer the indignity of being portrayed by the inept Lindsay Lohan. Heaven help us. Michelle Williams doesn't reach those lower depths but there was still a certain magic spark missing that Monroe had. It would be like trying to find someone to play Robert Plant or Jimmy Page.
  5. Happy Thanksgiving to one and all! Don't have time for anymore than that...just see my post from last year and repeat. Gobble Gobble!
  6. Week 12 picks: Detroit Dallas New England Chicago Cincinnati Pittsburgh Indianapolis Denver Seattle Atlanta Tennessee San Diego Arizona New Orleans NY Giants Philadelphia
  7. Rick, I keep telling you but you keep forgetting: the Laker team with Jerry West, Wilt, McMillan, Gail Goodrich, Pat Riley that set a record of 69-13 with 33 wins in a row was the 1971-72 team, NOT 1970. They had just recently won the NBA championship when I went to my first Led Zeppelin concert that June in 1972. The Fabulous Forum, as it was known then. Was hoping to relax and watch the Clipper-Thunder game now but I forgot to get eggs...and I've got a staff meeting at work in a couple hours. I'll have to catch it on DVR. Hahaha...just heard "Kashmir" playing behind Hubie Brown talking during the telecast!
  8. I'm up to my eyeballs in Thanksgiving prepping and cooking(all while playing the "Celebration Day" dvd and cd on an endless loop), so I haven't had time to visit the Forum lately. But now that the last Twi-shit movie is out and the theatres are overrun with adenoidal girls, now's your chance to catch up with some recent films that are worth your time and dime...and you won't be embarrassed taking relatives to over the Thanksgiving weekend. "Argo", "Flight" and "Looper" are all good and worthy choices. But the number one movie to see now, in my opinion, is "Skyfall", the new James Bond flick. I was skeptical when I heard the advance buzz...but this truly is one of the best Bond movies. Definitely top 10, maybe even Top 5...not since "The Spy Who Loved Me" or "On Her Majesty's Secret Service" has there been a Bond film this memorable. Javier Bardem is mesmerizing as the villain and Daniel Craig is great, too. Don't have time to go in detail...but put "Skyfall" on your holiday "must-see" list! I'll be seeing "Lincoln" either Thursday or Friday.
  9. This was a topic started long ago...many more stories on this thread:
  10. Jimmy Page cover story in the latest Rolling Stone. NOT the Led Zeppelin collector's edition...this is the normal issue of the magazine.
  11. My godson is off from school for the entire week so I am taking him to see the new James Bond movie, "Skyfall" tonight.
  12. The rest of the booklet and the free promo poster I got with my purchase.
  13. Now for the discs themselves, including closeups...note the clock hands on the CDs. On CD 1 it's 10:12 and on CD 2 it's 12:10.
  14. Thought I would give everyone a complete look at the packaging of "Celebration Day", inside and out. I got the Deluxe edition: 2 CD/2 DVD...I'll start with the slipcase and the front and back of the digipack.
  15. For my sanity and peace of mind, I stopped reading that thread a week ago.
  16. I bet the Scots nicked the idea from us Americans. For years at American Fairs, they have been deep-frying Twinkies, Mars-Bars, donuts, hotdogs, ice cream...any food you can imagine is deep fried on a stick. I bet they'd even deep-fry your car if you wanted.
  17. Maybe I'll send some in my next care package to you, then. Personally, I've always been more of a Ding Dong fan than Twinkies. Twinkies always had this foul chemical taste to me. There is also this nasty American County Fair tradition of deep-frying the Twinkie. You know, to really give your heart a jolt.
  18. Missy, I have seen it at record stores, Barnes & Nobles, Target, CVS, Rite Aid, grocery markets like Ralphs, Vons, Gelson's, Albertson's, Whole Foods, and at every newstand around town. PM me if you can't find one. When I browsed thru it at the newsstand, I noticed at least a couple of misdated photos. The double-paged spread of them inside the limousine in L.A. is from June 1972. Rolling Stone has it dated 1971.
  19. Here is news I never thought I'd see...always considered Twinkies indestructible, like Keith Richards and cockroaches. But apparently not. Junk food lovers better stock up on your Twinkies, Ding Dongs and Ho Hos. Twinkies maker Hostess to go out of business, lay off 18,500 Read on... http://touch.latimes.com/#section/-1/article/p2p-73343558/
  20. The clock struck midnight and the Cleveland Browns have turned back into a pumpkin.
  21. No street ads in Los Angeles. No billboards, no bust stop/subway ads. Nothing. Which is odd. On top of that, none of the theatres that I've seen the movie in(and I've seen it three times) had any promo posters displayed or for sale. Again...NOTHING! It's like they're taking the L.A. market for granted.
  22. That's the game CBS is showing here in L.A. Cowboys OL is getting EMBARRASSED by Cleveland's DL. Romo and the offense look terrible.
  23. Well...now that I have finally woken up with my ears still ringing from the great Tame Impala concert last night and had breakfast, I am: 1. Gonna watch a little football while reading the Sunday papers(also want to check the ad circulars for "Celebration Day" ads and prices), make a few calls to friends and family, and write some Thanksgiving Day cards/letters. 2. Go to the Hammer Museum for their presentation "Salome in Opera and on Film" in conjunction with their Gustave Moreau's "Salome" exhibit. 3. Have dinner and watch the end of the late afternoon games and the first half of the NBC Sunday night game. 4. At 7:30pm, go meet some fellow cine-geek friends at the Billy Wilder Theatre for a double-bill of Mitchell Leisen classics: "Death Takes a Holiday" and "Murder at the Vanities". Possibly go for some coffee/drinks afterwards. 5. Check messages/e-mails before I go to bed...set alarm early so I can get to store before it opens to get Deluxe edition of "Celebration Day" before it sells out.
