Getting ready to watch a three part mini series by the BBC called "Berlin". Here's a rather interesting summary of each of the three parts: Part One : Dangerous Ideas The 18th-century king Frederick the Great was a contradictory character whose legacy would define Berlin as a place of both aggressive militarism and enlightened idealism. He would be embraced as an icon by Hitler and, later, the Communist leaders in East Berlin. But Frederick's liberalism created a city in which new theories of sex and sexuality could flourish, inspiring groundbreaking art. During the Cold War, the street that bore the king's name, Friedrichstrasse, was also brutally divided - and irreconcilable. Only after the Berlin Wall fell in 1989 was King Frederick returned to his desired resting place. The funeral was intended as a laying-to-rest of more than just a body. Part 2: Ruined Visions The story of Berlin and its buildings is one of visionary creation and terrible destruction, of human ambition and delusion. From the 19th-century architect Karl Friedrich Schinkel to the Bauhaus pioneers of Modernism and the rebuilding of the city after the fall of the Wall, it is a city that has always looked to the future. Jews moved to the city from Vienna and Eastern Europe, and were instrumental in creating the city as it now exists. During the Nazi years, however, Berlin's Jews were driven underground, many unable to leave the city they loved. When the Russians arrived at the end of the Second World War, Berlin's women found themselves at the mercy of rapists rather than liberators. Citizens became pawns in a global game through the Berlin blockade, and when the Berlin Wall was built, both East and West held themselves up as beacons of freedom. But only when it fell did Berliners attain the freedom that their early rulers had promised them.

And yes, I am really looking forward to my trip to Devonport. It is steeped in history, I believe. It has quite a few European and Maori settlements, Antique Shops, a few Victorian Villas and other exciting stuff! I honestly can't wait! My cell phone is (to say the least ) pretty geared up!

Well, I got : 2 Ferry Cruise Tickets To Devonport (Also Known As The Village By The Sea). Will be going on yet another cruise, a couple of days after New Year's Day I didn't get any Led Zeppelin related gifts for Christmas. But I really don't mind because all I wanted for Christmas was an opportunity to spend some quality time with my mom. You see, my mom and I were both University students and student life was a pretty hectic affair (to say the least!) all these months and Christmas time was the one time of the year where she and I could actually get to spend some time together. Well, I am indeed happy to say that I got my wish! We watched Christmas classics like "Mr. Magoo's Christmas Carol", "Frosty The Snowman", "Charlie Brown's Christmas", "Rudolf The Red Nosed Reindeer" (the cartoon dating back to 1948), "The Smurfs : A Christmas Carol" and "How The Grinch Stole Christmas". We also watched the musical "Mary Poppins". It was my first time and the last time my mom watched "Mary Poppins" was when she was a little girl! All in all, Christmas was a quiet, fun filled day. No drama. No tension. No deadlines to fulfill. No wretched assignments to submit. No exams to prepare for. Honestly, I couldn't be happier!
