  1. Bangs was only with RS for a short time to start with so I don't see where that's a real barometer to measure the quality of their writing against. Same for the Justin Timberlake review, it's merely someone's opinion, one you just so happen to agree with. Giving his record a favorable review isn't a sign that they're "in bed" with the people that advertise with the magazine. If that was true, by your reasoning they'd never post any negative reviews.
  2. Years ago Peter Buck appeared with Kevn Kinney of Drivin' n' Cryin' on MTV's 120 Minutes in support of Kevn's solo album, MacDougal Blues. I searched for them on YouTube and actually found them but Viacom (MTV's parent company) has pulled them due to copyright infringement. However, I was able to locate these two clips, which, according to the descriptions, come from when Kevn & Peter were doing the opening honors for Drivin' n' Cryin' circa the early 90s:

  4. Thanks for re-linking, lots of cool shots but I think this is my favorite:
  5. So, anytime anyone's opinion differs from yours it's a "pure bloody crime"? They were just expressing an opinion of what they thought of Led Zeppelin, it's what critics (and even fans) do. It's certainly nothing worth getting so upset over. You like the songs you like which is really all that's important. And by the way, it's just "Rolling Stone", not the Rolling Stone.
  6. This should also be applied to Plant, particularly the "might have beens and maybes". Perhaps Page will soldier forward in 2011 and show folks that it's possible for him to exist (and even prosper artistically) in a world without Led Zeppelin. I don't doubt the effort he's put into his work post Zep but he's clearly been the least prolific of the surviving three.
  7. Clip from the new In Session DVD: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=13d2KHKWR5Y
  8. She made a good Bob. Perhaps the most convincing in the entire movie.
  9. Kasey Chambers "Cry Like A Baby" Well I'm not much like my generation Their music only hurts my ears And I don't hide my pain to save my reputation It's too hard to keep up with these years
  10. Then, that must mean you've never heard this from his Last Man Standing album which came out a couple of years ago: All of his vintage stuff is a must but he's also a fine example of someone that's rockin' out well into their "golden years". I highly recommend the deluxe edition of his latest album, Mean Old Man. Like Last Man Standing before it, it's chock-full of guest stars. Some cuts, like those with Tim McGraw, Sheryl Crow and Kid Crock should have remained on the cutting room floor but overall it's a very worthwhile record. 1. "Mean Old Man" w. Ronnie Wood (written by Kris Kristofferson) 2. "You Can Have Her" w. Eric Clapton/James Burton 3. "Dead Flowers" w. Mick Jagger 4. "Middle Age Crazy" w. Tim McGraw/Jon Brion 5. "Rockin' My Life Away" w. Kid Rock/Slash 6. "You Are My Sunshine" w. Sheryl Crow/Jon Brion 7. "Swinging Doors" w. Merle Haggard/James Burton 8. "Hold You In My Heart" w. Shelby Lynne 9. "I Really Don't Want To Know" w. Gillian Welch 10. "Railroad to Heaven" w. Solomon Burke 11. "Sweet Virginia" w. Keith Richards 12. "Roll Over Beethoven" w. Ringo Starr/John Mayer/Jon Brion 13. "Bad Moon Rising" w. John Fogerty 14. "Please Release Me" w. Gillian Welch 15. "Whiskey River" w. Willie Nelson 16. "Sunday Morning Coming Down" 17. "Will The Circle Be Unbroken" w. Mavis Staples/Robbie Robertson/Nils Lofgren 18. "Miss The Mississippi and You"
  11. A friend that DJs at a local club played this one the other night. I'd forgotten just how long it had been since I heard it last.
  12. The two "rocker type dudes" are actually actors with extensive backgrounds in comedy. Eddie Trunk is the one with the true rock n' roll pedigree as he's had a long standing career in radio and the music business in general. What you interpret as his rubbing it in his co-hosts' faces is Trunk just playing it up for the cameras for the sake of the show. It is VH1 Classic after all. It's no different than the approach other shows from the MTV corporation have taken over the years.
  13. Not sure if you've heard her latest album, Leave Your Sleep but it is one of my favorites from this past year. The concert she put on for it here was also nothing short of breathtaking. The entire first set was songs from Leave Your Sleep while the second set (and encore) were loaded with lots of her solo songs and 10,000 Maniacs tunes. Unfortunately, Natalie is often accused of being too serious and pretentious but her keen sense of humor was in full effect that evening. She is still one of my favorite vocalists ever.
  14. If you're going to create a thread in the "Polls" section, it helps if you actually create a Poll.
  15. ...and for those who were fortunate enough to have missed out on the original, here it is:
  16. Our local PBS affilate always used to run this in the 11 pm slot just prior to Saturday Night Live back in the 70s which always made for essential viewing.
  17. Perhaps you'd be wise to check the News section of the forum. Only three threads from the top is what I'd consider some pretty significant news, particularly if it's Page you're "almost exclusively" interested in. By that, I don't necessarily mean the honor that It Might Get Loud has received from Mojo magazine but confirmation from the man himself in regards to his next solo album. Of course, that still doesn't mean we'll actually see it in 2011 but one can hope.
  18. In response to high ticket prices my Dad used to say if only the fans would protest by staying away from the concerts they would have no alternative but to bring them down. Well, that's exactly what's happening now (and I've seen it happen before) but fans aren't really "protesting", they simply can't afford to go. A few years back when Kiss and Aerosmith toured together ticket sales for their show here (NC) were very slow so the closer the show got, the lower the prices of the tickets got. By the time the show date had arrived the venue was practically giving tickets away. I'm sure someone somewhere thought a Kiss/Aerosmith co-headlining bill was a no brainer as far as putting asses in seats was concerned but they were proved wrong on that occasion. Personally, I go to more club shows than stadium/arena shows anyway. Part of the reason is the overall cost but a bigger reason is I simply enjoy club shows more because of the intimacy.
  19. I've seen people long for the days of how concerts used to be. While there's definitely an upside to some of it, a great deal of the change (particularly concert security) has happened for good reason. I'm sure many besides myself have heard tales of fans using belts and other means (sometimes even jumping) to get down to the floor. That's something you just don't see at concerts anymore (at least I haven't).
