  1. It's a historical piece of American literature - and should be kept that way.
  2. I understand and I am old enough to remember the limited stereo phonic capabilities back in the seventies. The question that was originally posed was, as I read it, not which album was better but about the production differences between the two discs. Yes, I know that Jimmy produced both works - as he is listed as producer for all of the Zeppelin albums - but the two releases sound very different to one another. The reason for the release delays was due to the art work on the albums, not the quest for perfection in the studio. Not arguing with you here, just trying to clarify my comments and your questions. I still think HOH is the strangest sounding Zeppelin release and I believe it is even more obvious when the songs were played live - they sound way different on stage than on HOH, where the PG songs sound pretty similar to the disc. Anyway, I've said enough already. Nice chatting with you on this Missy. Peace.
  3. I thought the point of the thread was the recording quality of both of the albums. Song for song, HOH is a fantastic disc. Every song on it came across extremely well live, when played. I just still think the recording production of the discs are so different and PG was much better from that standpoint.
  4. I completely agree - that was the BEST day of music. I was a camp counselor in the Adirondack Mts. of NY that summer and only had a radio to listen to until later that afternoon. I remember all of the various artists from all of the different genres of music. All of the rumors of who might show up and play. The Who's set being cut by the helicopters overhead breaking the signal from Wembley Stadium. I became a U2 fan that day as well - "Sunday, Bloody Sunday" was fantastic and "Bad" was so hypnotic. The Black Sabbath reunion was one of the first sets I caught and being a HUGE Ozzy fan, I couldn't believe what I was hearing. I have 4 audio tapes full of different sets - but they were recorded with on a radio that the tapes only sounded good while being played on that radio (one of those big "jam box" 80's radios) and so now when I try to play them it sounds so muddled. Oh well.....what was the discussion? Oh yes, who got them together? I had always read that it was Robert who initiated the reunion and seemed to regret it soon after it was over. Sorry to ramble, but thanks for jogging the ol' memory. What a great day it was, too bad it hasn't been preserved as well as it could have been.
  5. With all due respect SAJ, the show is being advertised as Slash opening for Ozzy on Friday, Feb. 18 in Tampa. That is why I was heavily considering attending the show - we've seen Slash 7 times and he is always fantastic. If he is not performing, Ticketmaster needs to not take advantage of his fans with false advertising.
  6. Interestingly enough, I was thinking about this same question the other night - while listening to a compilation disc I recently put together on the porch. My first thoughts have always been Achilles, Kashmir or Ten Years Gone. But while listening to When The Levee Breaks, I really felt all of the different components of Zep there - more so than the other songs I mentioned. The heavy strong Bonham rhythm, the great Plant wails and harp, the strong JPJ groove, Jimmy's amazing guitar and production. Like it was said before, it is true Zeppelin hypnotic magick.
  7. Those are truely AWESOME pictures!! Thank you for sharing.
  8. I feel the same way. I never have liked the recording quality of HOTH - it has always sounded so weird to me - no depth to the music and Plant's voice sounding like its on helium. PG sounds so much better, to me, in its quality and feel.
  9. I love the song! To me, it sounds like a party was going on while they were recording it. I do agree that Zep didn't do much with it live, but it was really fantastic at Knebworth '90 when P/P played it and it was also the best song the night of the Atlantic Records reunion set IMO. Not bad the night of the O2 arena show either!
  10. I am assuming that LA was a no go for Gilmour? If so, then London it must be.
  11. My dvr stopped recording just as they were about to discuss which is better Zep II or Zep IV - which one did they think was better? I'm guessing IV, but I also wondered why PG wasn't an option since it is much heavier than those two?

    NASCAR 2010

Final weekend of the NASCAR season! Incredible points race unfolding between Hamlin, Johnson and Harvick...... you know who I am pulling for! We are heading down to Homestead Saturday morning to go to the garage and then for Sunday's Cup finale - and to root Harvick onto to the title!! Can't wait!!!!
  13. Well, saw the show last night and guess what????? No Gilmour! Amazing show everyone - if you have tickets, you're in for a great evening! johnthomasmoby - I was saying LA because I thought it was said (or implied) that it would be an American date he would show up to. If that was not the case, then London would be the obvious choice since it seems David doesn't like to travel around too much anymore. Peace.
  14. Going to the Tampa show tonight - I'll let you know if I see one Mr. Gilmour there or not! I'm with you Electrophile, it will probably be LA where he shows up to play.
  15. Oh, I don't know....... why did he lie about many other things he has about Zeppelin - to make money off his book! If he has information that nobody else does, wouldn't that make his book that much more profitable? Oh yeah, it's just that The Rover and the rest of us have a copy of the show that we are hoarding, that's all.....
  16. Why was a show in West Palm Beach cancelled and scheduled between Dallas and San Diego in the first place? If it was anyone other than Stephen Davis, I might believe it.
  17. My condolences to you and your family - he was a fine man, indeed.
  18. Yes, Orlando has been added. It is a very small theatre not far from where I work. However, my son has a flag football game from 7:30-8:30 that night and I'm the coach!! So, what time does the show actually begin, anybody know? The venue says 8:00, and I can get there by 9:00, and it will go no later than 11:00 - according to the venue also...... I must see this show!!! If anyone has time info. from the other nights, please advise me! Peace.
  19. How about "Out On The Tiles"? "I'm so glad I'm leaving (sounds like you can hear the word "stop" directly after leaving is sung)....."
  20. I agree with your statement. Also, for those other "one off" performances they were following other acts and had to wait around until it was their time to play, no real soundcheck, etc. Tough circumstances for a quick reunion with guys who haven't played together much in the last 5 - 8 years or so. Not making excuses, but as danelectro said - they prepared for months for that one night at the O2.
  21. Fantastic interview, I'll have to buy the book now - thanks for sharing!
