ZNN News Update/September 22, 2009

FANS CONTINUE TO POUR INTO MONTREAL FOR THE MIGHTY ZEPPELIN

We are now three days away from the opening of the Led Zeppelin Mothership-The Only Way To Fly World Tour. The sreets from Pearson Airport in Toronto to the Bell Centre are literally lined up as the staging is being transported to the venue. Fans are hoping to catch a glance at what their Mighty Zeppelin are planning for this monumental event Friday night at 9:00PM. In typical Led Zeppelin fashion every detail has been closely guarded.

It is being reported that Jason Bonham the son of beloved drummer John Bonham has been working on a drum solo to honor what is considered to have been the greatest drummer in music history and who he called Dad. We are still trying to confirm details.

Jimmy Page, guitarist and architect of the band is said to be wearing the signature black suit with silver sequins and Robert Plant, vocalist will be bear chested with the signature jeans and tossled blond mane of hair that has always made him the physical presence that drove the ladies wild. We currently have no information on the attire regarding the man who initiated this event, John Paul Jones, bass & keyboards, but we are continuing to try to uncover as many details as we can.

We are also trying to confirm the title of the new release. Our sources tell us they have heard "The Roar Of The Ocean" has been one as well as "The Music Makes You Wonder", but again we are trying to get confirmation of this.

Extra police have been assigned due to the volume of people the city is experiencing, however there are no incidents to report. The crowd is still reeling with anticipation.

We hope to catch up with a few of the devoted fans later today to get comments. We will continue to bring you coverage as we receive it.

Devoted fans should also be aware that it has been reported the band may descend on an unsuspecting high school somewhere in the Montreal area for an impromptu noon hour warm up gig !

The three original members have been quoted as saying " Hey, we did that in Vancouver back in 1970 and it was really cool " !!! Since the late Peter Grant will not be there, students will not have to worry about getting their lights punched out should they try to secure a bit of history from this once in a lifetime opportunity

However, if Ally is there The Risk Remains The Same. biggrin.gif

In case anyone was wondering, this thread is an opportunity to put some flesh on the bones of your Led Zeppelin dreams, be they new or old, using a magical combination of zeros and ones.

Initially, I thought a rather traditional approach to these events should be upheld, because we do experience time in linear fashion, the laws of gravity do apply, etc. However, as the thread unfolds I've become convinced such provisions are but a rude impositon on our voyage to dreamland.

Deborah wants Robert to be bare chested in Montreal, Stargroves Tangie hoped her husband would give her a ticket to a NYC show, Nathan has dreamed of this band in that old bar, and I just want to see Jimmy smile again. These are powerful desires, noble ambitions, and I say to each their own.

If there's any message to get across thru this it is Led Zeppelin can still be a shared, metaphysical experience.

Here. Here. I never got to see LZ so at least my fantasies can come true thru this thread. This is so much fun to read everyones fertile imagination, yet fictional accounts of these events. The sky is the limit.

Freelance journalist P.Rick Givens reported on his blog that, "A cadre of Led Zeppelin groupies have exited their mothballed closets and have descended upon Montreal. I'm witnessing the original 'Ledding Ladies' as well as second and possibly third generation spawn behave with a calculated energy proportionate to the event on Friday."

P.Rick also stated, "Many of these fiftyish, or even sixtyish women still have what it takes to turn a man's head."

Well, any of you folks lucky enough to be in Montreal see anything resembling what seems to me an embellished piece of hack journalism by this Givens fellow? I need photo proof or corroboration from a forum member. I mean, can this really be the seventies revisited?

SteveAJones, is their a "firm" date set for when the second leg kicks off in Birmingham?

Confirmation of dates is rather like an elephant in the room no one seems prepared to openly discuss. When

tour promoter Michael Cohl stopped by the rehearsals earlier today it became obvious that the band themselves

don't know when and where they are playing beyond this week. JPJ was quick to point out he has a tour lined

up with TCV and great care should be taken to ensure he is not presented with unreasonable travel demands.

Jimmy acknlowledged that, but added it's the fans who have put them on the road and popular demand may well dictate the tour itinerary. I took this to mean the more vociferous fans would see them sooner rather than later. "I'll play anywhere provided the fans are ready for us", Jimmy explained.

I suggested to Michael Cohl he could monitor this forum to glean who is ready to host Led Zeppelin next, but he

took this the wrong way and said "I don't tell you how to archive and chronicle, don't tell me how to book a tour". I was overtired so I snapped and said "Look Mike, it's the fans that put this band back on the road. They arranged it, their putting it on, they'd do better to leave you anytime. You couldn't even get in the starting line. It's typical. So long as there's an extra nickel to be drained by exploiting Led Zeppelin it's great, as the fucking Molson Canadien promo banners wave on".

Our verbal wimbledon came to a distracted end when Michael saw Ross snapping photos of a hot Asian escort.

Peace and love prevailed once more throughout the massive rehearsal room.

Ok- The Oct 1,9, 12,14 and the Dec 10 dates I tried to put with TCV. JPJ could do both! :-)

Deborah - I hope JPJ will be taking his mega vitamins to keep up with these double headers. :) Has he confirmed for sure these double billings? Could we maybe plug in dates between TCV so as not to wear the poor man out.

I had heard that Jimmy was aware of the travel demands this would place on JPJ, but reminded everyone that it's the fans who have them back performing. I am sure they will all agree and schedule to the best benefit for the fans and the bands.

As I am packing tonight to leave for Montreal tomorrow morning--I was thinking about when I saw them live the first time May 14, 1973 at the Municiple Auditrium in New Orleans. The impact that that left on me at such a young age. The set list was: Rock & Roll, Celebration Day,(Bring It On home Intro), Black Dog, Over The Hills & Far Away, Misty Mountain Hop, SIBLY,No Quarter, TSRST, Rain Song, Dazed and Confused, Stairway To Heaven, Moby Dick, Heratbreaker, WLL,-Let That Boy Boogie & Communication Breakdown. I can remember each song and sometimes I close my eyes and I am there again, mesmerized.I never looked back again..it was Led Zeppelin all the way for me.

Then February 28, 1975 in Baton Rouge at the LSU Assembly Center with the set list:Rock & Roll, Sick Again, Over The Hills And Far Away,In My Time Of Dying,TSRTS, Rain Song, Kashmir, No Quarter, Trampled Under Foot, Moby Dick, Dazed & Confused, Stairway To Heaven, Whole Lotta Love and Black Dog. I was close to the stage at this one!!

Seeing these men live..and even though the songs live always were a little different, you were taken on a journey that just seems to continue with you thru your life. I started loving them when I was 9 and bought my first album at 11.

I have been thinking about Friday night and the thought of being in front of JPJ as he starts the keyboards to No Quarter or his bass on Dazed and Confused. Or, when Jimmy get's going on Dazed and Confused and takes the bow out or how delicate he starts out Stairway To Heaven and he will smile a little smile yet you know you are beholding musical genius! Then Robert with his vocals that cannot be imitated. The soulful sound of SIBLY or the perfection of Kashmir. Not to mention the presence the man projects from a stage.

I know that my memories throughout my life with this music will have another one to join in.

If Jason does a solo my emotions will just take over and I will be in a state of euphoria. For those of you who have not had the opportunity to see this band live, it will forever change your life in regards to music. There is no other band nor will there ever be another band like The Mighty Zeppelin!!

Just wanted to share a little of my memories.I look forward to seeing so many of you! Can Friday get here any sooner......

ZNN News Early Addition Update/September 23, 2009

MONTREAL IS THE PLACE TO BE, WHY? FRIDAY SEPTEMBER 25th LED ZEPPELIN PERFORMS LIVE

Since the September 19th announcement of the LED ZEPPELIN 2009/2010 World Tour, Mothership-The Only Way To Fly this city and the surrounding area has taken on a new life! As the fans continue to fly, drive, take buses, trains, any way they can just to be here.

We have had reports that some of the top designers from around the world have sent their staff here and the new planned clothing lines that were planned for spring 2010 have been scrapped and a line of 70's clothing will be the comeback! This bands impact is astonishing to say the least.

We also had sources tell us that Mr. Page and the band were rehearsing the song Heartbreaker and a few others that were not on our initial possible set list. So either the set list will change or the fans are in for a few suprises. We will update you as we get more information on this.

We still cannot confirm the title of the new release. One source stated that each member have an idea and I am sure that these men as in the past will make the right decision.

Rehearsals today were highly guarded. It's as if their beloved Manager Peter Grant is still watching over things. It was a handshake that formed this partnership! That's integrity that you don't find in this business.

We have noticed fans of all ages for this band, from 13-60 years in age. P.Rick a freelance writer stated that many of the older female fans still have what it takes. It must be the music!

We tried all afternoon to locate the Forum fans but are told they are attending a private party at an undisclosed location that the band had set up to give them the opportunity to meet each other prior to Friday's opening event. We are told this has been arranged for them for Wednesday and Thursday evenings as well. We will do our best to hopefully sit down with a few of these fans tomorrow. We did however earlier today run into the Sorcerer's Apprentice and diligently tried to get a statement. His comment, "You are on my ignore list"

With only two days now remaining we will continue to update you as we get additional details.

You keep saying forum but I think you mean thread. The forum is everything on the board, the thread is this topic only. If you don't enjoy this thread feel free to pick another as there are many to choose from. I do ask you bear in mind that although this is a fictional account it is in many respects quite real nonetheless.

I got an email from a Canadian friend of mine who said he stumbled on to the location of the band's rehearsals in Montreal after hearing "some band" playing downstairs!

He is the caretaker of the building and said they did a version of The Guess Who's Running back To Saskatoon!

He also overheard a conversation between the lads where it was decided they would play a "cover" of a song by a band from the country they were playing in during the WLL medley?

This conjures up some interesting possibilities!

Can you imagine them playing, say, Eagle Rock by Daddy Cool or The Honeymoon Is Over by The Cruel Sea when they hit Oz?

Well, I know it's so unlike me to spill the beans but I can confirm what Reggie said, the band has begun final rehearsals in Montreal and they have run through at least one Guess Who track with Randy California. For those of you unfamiliar with Randy's work, here's an example:

I guess we have no one but ourselves to blame for the caretaker overhearing the rehearsals. My friend JJ & I

had been waiting around for the guys to arrive and he just couldn't resist trying out the rehearsal kit:

I'll have more Montreal rehearsal coverage soon. I've seen other forum members passing through as well.

MONTREAL IS SIZZLING DUE TO THE POWERHOUSE BAND LED ZEPPELIN

We are now two days away from the opening night event of The World Tour 2009/2010 Mothership-The Only Way To Fly Led Zeppelin Fans are continuing to invade Montreal. We have correspondents at the airport that have reported that most of the people arriving are easy to spot as 90% of the people are wearing Led Zeppelin attire.

We also have reporters stationed in the lobby of the local hotels. We were able to catch up with two of the Led Zeppelin Forum members. A Mr.Ronniedawg and Ms.DeborahJ. We sat with the two of them briefly in the lobby of The Ritz-Carlton.

Ronniedawg stated, "I rang DeborahJ last night and offered to meet her at the airport. We plan on spending the day doing a lot of fun things.I am a local so I knew I could show DeborahJ a great time"

So DeborahJ did you and Ronniedawg meet on the Forum? " Yes, all of us on the forum have a love for the music, so it forms a common bond and like anything else in life you start to connect with certain people. Ronniedawg and I share a lot of the same interest in music and started having conversations. I was excited when he called last night and offered to meet me at the airport."

So what are some the things you have planned for the day? Ronniedawg responds, "Well, the things I can tell you about,(they smile at each other)later today we are meeting several other Forum members at a local pub. ledzepfvr, bigstickbonzo, Riot House, Reggie29, jabe, BuckEyeDoc, mszeppelin94,aquamarine,austinzeppelin68, badgeholder, bouncing ship to name a few. We are also trying to locate the Sorcerer's Apprentice but he has been spotted around town with an attractive companion so not sure we will see him today, probably later tonight. I think we are still in a daze that we are going to see The Mighty Zeppelin live in just two days, then tonight we are attending a private party the band arranged for the Forum members"

DeborahJ chimes in , "Some of us have waited decades for this so you can only begin to imagine the emotions we are feeling! We are a close group of people thanks to the music of our magnificent LED ZEPPELIN!"

Anyway we can get you to tell us the location of the private party? Ronniedawg states, "I don't think so as it is a private party and we know if the band wanted that information disclosed, they would have shined it all around so to say"

May we try to catch up with the two of you after the concert for a quote? DeborahJ responds, " It would have to be really early Saturday morning as we are heading to the MSG events in New York and hope to see a few more of our Forum friends"

Well, it is obvious that LED ZEPPELIN fans are not your typical fans. These people seem to be part of the music and have a respect for the band members unlike anything we have ever reported. We are hoping to sit down with a few more Forum members today and will update you as more information comes in.

Zeppelin's Jimmy Page Out on the Tiles Before Big Tour

Associated Press

It may be just two days before the led balloon descends upon the city of Toronto for what is already being called the "Greatest Musical Event of All Time," but that hasn't stopped guitar legend Jimmy Page from hitting the streets of Toronto for alittle fun before he and Led Zeppelin kick off a 7 month world tour here Friday night.

Though Page, 65, has traded his wild party antics of his youth for a more esteemed gentlemen's approach, he still has the wit and grace of a guy looking for a good time. Leaving the high end restaurant Shiek Re La in a black suit and white tie, Page briefly greeted fans outside before being wisked away in his jet black limo where he later turned up at one of down town Toronto's swanky blues clubs.

One bystander said, "Jimmy fucking Page is at the bar. I can't believe this, it's almost surreal. Led Zeppelin are back!"

Another eager fan, a woman in her mid-20s, was spotted eyeing down the guitar god the entire time he stood watching the live band. "He's still sexy, which for some might be too much, but he just has this aura, this presence. It's overwhelmingly powerful."

Tickets have been sold out since going on sale in mid-August. The city is booming with talk of Friday night's show, which kicks off the British band's 2009-10 World Tour, their first official tour since 1980, when they briefly toured Europe before planning a big North American tour that fall. Unfortunately this never took place because of the untimely passing of John Bonham on September 25 due to excessive alcohol consumption. Now, 29 years later, the Mighty Zep plan to kick off their 7 month tour on the very date the blimp went down the first time around.

When asked what he thought about Zeppelin playing in Toronto, a local fan commented, "I don't know about you but look at Jimmy. He's beaming. He's just as excited as we are. I can't wait!!"

And neither can Led Zeppelin.

(AP) New details are emerging about Led Zeppelin's mammoth reunion tour, which has drawn unprecedented media coverage around the world as millions of eager fans rush to buy tickets for the legendary band's upcoming shows. Although nothing has been confirmed by the group or its official representatives, insiders have revealed some planned set lists and promotional packages that are sure to have punters excited. Among the fresh info:

Owing to the advanced ages of the three surviving members of Led Zeppelin, all concerts will be approximately thirty minutes in length, consisting of the opening riffs of their best-loved songs ("Whole Lotta Love," "Black Dog," "Kashmir," "Stairway to Heaven," etc.). There will be no encores; instead a well-deserved rest will follow the shows.

In memory of the original Led Zeppelin drummer John Bonham (1948-1980), winners of local contests will be honored with a personal meeting with Bonham's son, Jason, filling his father's shoes for the band. Jason will be available to pose for pictures, sign autographs, chat with fans, and then beat them up.

Guitarist Jimmy Page will also host special meet 'n' greets for female ticketholders at each concert stop. Some age restrictions will apply, so ladies, bring ID and parental consent.

What sources call a Very Exclusive Prize Package will be available for fans. These luckiest of winners will actually enter Led Zeppelin's backstage area to "hang out" with the musicians; aspiring guitarists, singers, and drummers are encouraged to bring instruments for the opportunity to write songs, jam, record, and perform with Led Zeppelin! Best of all, there is no cash payment required for this amazing opportunity. Note: Winners will be obliged to sell their mortal souls to Satan, the Prince of Darkness, for all Eternity. Have fun and rock on!

At some shows, Zeppelin guitarist Jimmy Page will be replaced by author and amateur musician George Case. "George is a great writer and, crikey, he's a fine guitarist," Page enthuses. Asked how Zeppelin's legions of diehard fans will respond to a virtual unknown subbing for a rock legend, Page declined to comment.
