We studied him in painful detail during a course for a masters program, soup to nuts (ha, get it) so to speak. The man was both absolutely brilliant and absolutely broken beyond any hope of redemption. The man is quite literally the poster child for what can happen when society as a whole fails a person at every turn. Now I am not saying Manson is not to blame, he was 100% to blame but if you do not study and address the cause, the symptoms will just keep popping up. My only concern is when Hollywood keeps druging up the whole Helter Skelter motive bullshit. It's 50 years after the fact, lets just tell the truth of what really happened and be done with it. I am really looking forward to this movie, sure hope it does not dissapoint.

Strider
If you had asked me in 1972 what my favourite movie was I probably would have said "Billy Jack". I lost count of how many times I saw that movie from 1970 to 1975....it always seemed to be playing a theatre somewhere. I had the opportunity to see both these Billy Jack movies last night in the company of the son of Tom Laughlin and Delores Taylor. The "Born Losers" print was faded a little, as expected, but "Billy Jack" was a nice IB Technicolor print.

Tom & Delores Laughlin were bad ass, they talked the talk and walked the walk and neither voiced any regrets. They used their movies as platforms and never backed down. My hats off to both. Stryder1978
Watched "The Lighthouse" yesterday. A black and white "art film" with outstanding acting performances by William Dafoe (naturally) and Robert Pattinson (surprising!). Bonus: you even get to see a mermaid's vajayjay! Strider
Weekend round-up. It's Halloween week...which means it's HAMMER TIME! Always a fun spin... Still chewing this over in my mind. Totally engaged and enraptured over its entire 7.5 hour running time. The screening started at 2pm and with small breaks and a dinner break at 6:30, we got out of the theatre at 10:30pm. The restoration was gorgeous. Finished the weekend with a fun one. Eddie Murphy is getting good notices but for me, Wesley Snipes stole the show. He is hilarious. Another trip back to the funky, fun '70s.

Strider
A nifty (under 60 minutes!) Pre-code from 1932 about a nightclub. A rare non-horror role for Boris Karloff. Pretty Mae Clarke, who a year before was being chased by Boris (as Frankenstein's monster) and getting her face smashed by a grapefruit from Jimmy Cagney in "Public Enemy". One of the best movies of 2019. After "The Host", "Mother", and "Snowpiercer", South Korean director Bong Joon Ho had a letdown with "Okja". But "Parasite" finds him back in form. Winner of the Palme d'Or at 2019 Cannes over "Once Upon a Time in Hollywood". You think you know where the film is headed...and then it gets weird. Scorsese. DeNiro. Pacino. Pesci. Keitel. What else do you need to know? Based on the life of mob hitman Frank Sheeran. Probably the last time you will see all of these guys in one movie together (and Pacino's FIRST movie with Scorsese) and probably Scorsese's farewell to the mobster movie. Another one that, when all is said and done, will be in the running for multiple awards. It is 3 1/2 hours with no intermission break so plan accordingly...take that bathroom break before the movie starts. See it on the big screen if you can. Thanks to the beef between Netflix and theatre chains, most of you can't. Edited November 4, 2019 by Strider

Strider
I am a sucker for a good heist flick...or movies about gambling or con jobs. These are a few I watched this past week...starting with this Rat Pack classic. "E-O Eleven!" A small underrated gem. Steve McQueen goes up against Edgar G. Robinson in 5 card stud poker while Rip Torn menaces from the sidelines. Ann-Margret and Tuesday Weld are the eye-candy. Quite simply, "The Hustler" is a great American movie and says more about the American soul than baseball ever will. Paul Newman, Jackie Gleason, Piper Laurie, and George C. Scott etch their characters perfectly. Each owns their parts to the point that any remake or reboot would be foolish. If you have never seen it, drop what you are doing and see it now. American director Jules Dassin's nifty French noir. One of the coolest heist sequences ever filmed. Great jazz score by Georges Auric. Shot in black-and-white...as it should be.
