2012/2013 NFL Playoffs

I guess this is to be expected when you have 2 whole weeks before you play the big game. The media needs something to do & eventually some knucklehead is going to do or say something that makes you shake your head. How anyone can be so close-minded and ignorant in today's society is beyond me, especially given that his team plays in San Francisco. It would be silly to think that no one has ever been gay & played in the NFL, maybe one day someone will actually come out while they are playing. It would be interesting to see how the league would react to that.

At the very least, at least Culliver's comments have given us something to talk about besides "deer antler spray".

How can Culliver play for San Fran and not be tolerant of other people. Doesn't this guy have any idea about the city he plays in?

Wow. Talk about creating a firestorm. That is uncalled for. San Fran just lost alot of fans. You do not have to agree with how they chose to live. I do not bellieve they chose it, I believe they are born gay. Except for some few experimental gays that are not really gay. I have known my share and I had a gay friend I worked with for years that died of Aids. I have nothing agasint them. I do not condemn them for things out of thier control.

Not only are you correct in everything you wrote RH, you are also a tad modest.

The shuttle service between the airport and the French Quarter has been flawless everytime my wife and I have visited N.O. by air.

There is a Harrah's casino right in the thick of things. You're right on the banks of the mighty Mississippi. You can watch college age women get plastered drinking Hurricanes in the cozy confines of Pat O'briens courtyard.

The people watching is second only to Las Vegas in my view. Street artists of all type. It's a piece of cake to walk to the Superdome from the FQ.

I've never been to a place that has crammed so many cool things to do within easy walking distance. Just not enough time in the day to experience it all.

Add New Orleans to your bucket list if you've never been.

Perfect post Jabe!!! Couldn't have said it better. You captured the atmosphere.

Glad you enjoyed your time here.

Well Jabe, my bucket list is fairly long and New Orleans though appealing, is not near the top. I am cooking a shrimp stir fry tonight. Extra large shrimp, so Ill think of New Orleans. I remember Charles, Dzldoc, our late friend used to talk of the shrimping down there. Here's to you Charles! We all miss you. No, your Saints are not in it. But at least you got to see them win. I wonder if I will ever see Buffalo win? I must say though, if I could only have one, the Super Bowl or the Cup, I would prefer the Cup. I always wanted to try some of the Cajun cooking down yonder. I am a big fan of spicy food. So I am sure I would love the blackened dish's. I have had it up here but just like Cape Cod, not the same I am quite sure. What is the main ingredient used to make "blackened" lets say, chicken or shrimp?

The last four Super Bowls the coin toss was heads and 5 of last 6. Your pizza is going to have to be bought and paid for homer. Ha

That's ok. I've had my fill of Dominos for the day & plenty of leftovers for the weekend, so no free pizza would be cool with me just like it's going to be cool when the 49ers boot the Ravens in the ass.

:P;)

What was your score again? Mine is 26-24 Ravens and I just called it in to a local show. I said Tory Smith will be the MVP

Can't believe nobody has brought up the topic of the Head Referee chosen to work the Super Bowl, Jerome Boger. Rick, as much as you bet on football and rant about the refs, you should be very interested in this topic. I first read about it in the New York Times: http://www.nytimes.c...pagewanted=all

From there, I went to FootballZebras.com:

Controversy not about Jerome Boger, but about broken system

The NFL is defending its referee assignment system that many of its referees find is broken.

“Jerome Boger was the number one rated official in 2012, and is here because he deserves to be here and for no other reason,” said Ray Anderson, the NFL executive vice-president of football operations. I appeared on ESPN’s
Outside the Lines
on Tuesday to discuss the assignment of Boger to the Super Bowl; Anderson’s comments came in a segment following me.

But the officials have acknowledged that, of course, Boger is in the number one position
. It was also alleged by a current official that Anderson had predetermined the result.

Another current official has come forward since our report to back up the assertions that certain grades are fixed. This official said, “Your reporting has been 100 percent accurate. I don’t know who your sources are, but they are good sources.” We are not revealing his identity because he fears retaliation from the league.

One thing we never reported was race. Our sources offered a range of possible motives for the disparity in the officials’ grades, diversity being one of them; we chose not to speculate on the league’s intentions. While the selection of Boger is alleged by my sources to have been hand-picked, there are other political reasons that could also be factors. We realize that there is a focus on race because it adds media sizzle to the story. But, the fact that grades are intentionally changing, according to multiple sources, is really the story, and not what the alleged reasons for doing so.

We are aware that this is not the first year a Super Bowl official was predetermined, and in many of those cases, race could not be a factor.

“To suggest that Jerome Boger earned this assignment because he was black is really quite insulting and offensive and, very frankly, none of us appreciate that coming from anybody,” Anderson said on ESPN.

As for Super Bowl XLVII, Ray Anderson can only reveal what the motives are, because now another official is saying he, in fact, determined the fate of some of the Super Bowl officials and of well performing officials who were notably absent from the playoffs.

“We all see this, because we see what the grades are,” an official said. “You’ve got to realize that the number one thing all officials are about is integrity. And it flies in the face of integrity when you manipulate the grades. It is so frustrating.”

The idea in sports is NOT to know the names of officials. We do not pay to watch officials and I do not care what their names are or anything about them except they do the job right. I am sure they are making plenty of money. They do not need to get famous by blowing calls.

I think the point that is missed in Strider's post is this was the Official that was bumped by that worthless laptop thief Cam Newton. After being bumped he misapplied the rules or was to chicken shit to make the right call. This whole matter was thrown out and his ratings improved.

What does it mean for Sunday's Game? Hopefully nothing but he is not one of the better referees. But it could be worse. We could have seen Gun Show Hockely or Michael Cary they both suck even more.

Richard, your point is well made though. We can't remember the names of the better officials.

Exactly, Black Dawg...the Super Bowl should be the best of the best, whether it is teams or referee crews. And it is plain Goodell's goons in the NFL office gave this Jerome Boger guy a pass when other more qualified guys should have gotten the call. Boger had eight, EIGHT!, black marks magically erased from his record.

Meanwhile, two guys who got the shaft were also two guys who were vocal about the NFL not supporting the refs during the lockout. Coincidence? I think not...it's payback because these guys wouldn't lick Goodell's boots.

The NFL better pray that Boger doesn't have a boner and make a bogus call or there will be a shit storm.

Richard, your point is well made though. We can't remember the names of the better officials.

I can...Jim Tunney in the NFL and Earl Strom in the NBA.

The rutting season officially ends late tomorrow in New Orleans and Ray Lewis becomes an honorary member of the Boone and Crockett Club.

Baltimore 23

San Francisco 16

#52 concludes his career with a victory, and vanishes into the night with Bambi, a hot looking chick he met in the French Quarter.

Good luck with your picks everyone. It's been a fun season and I hope many more follow.

I am standing by my 26-24 pick. Baltimore winning the Super Bowl. I picked Tory Smith to be the MVP but it could be Flacco too. I hope I am wrong and Baltimore smashes them. I AM SICK of this talk of Kaperprick and his tattoed funky ass. Send em to hell as John Wayne once put it.

Most people are predicting a close game, so that means the game will probably be a blowout & one of the more forgettable Super Bowls. I really hope not, I hope it's a good, defensive struggle but in the end I believe the '9ers are the more complete team. I won't be mad if I'm wrong though.

Bobby? What do you have against Jesus? You probably say his name every time you log into this site. And every time you watch the Canucks. We need him now more than ever. As for Ray Lewis, this game is not about him. I do not like the shit SAn Fran pulled on Alex Smith.

You weren't the only one sick of him. He was supposed to be through 6 weeks ago. Thanks to a Hail Mary pass to Jacby Jones and a dominating performance against the Almighty Patriotts he is still hanging around.
