Ilovejimmypage92
Ugh. Wolfmother are crap. My favourite newbands are The Killers, Paolo Nutini, Hell Dormer (CHECK THEM OUT! They sound quite like Hanoi Rocks), Lacuna Coil, HIM, Dragonforce, Alter Bridge, Velvet Revolver, Brides of Destruction, Sixx:A.M., and Marilyn Manson. BUK
Alter Bridge http://www.myspace.com/alterbridge Earl Greyhound http://www.myspace.com/earlgreyhound Thornley http://www.myspace.com/thornicus The Raconteurs http://www.myspace.com/theraconteurs Robert Randolph http://www.myspace.com/robertrandolph Fairfield AD http://www.myspace.com/fairfieldtheband Along with the Foos, Collective Soul, The Mars Volta and others. There is much new music with a very "Classic" feel/spirit. The old music didn't die it is being re-born. It continues in these bands. They've updated the recording but maintained the textures and dynamics of the best of the late 60's 70's (The high water mark for rock music IMHO). These guys are carrying the torch - further. NOT COVER BANDS! Even though they are finding it rough going in today's market, I think some of the song writing competes with the classics in quality. As if they could be long lost music from whom they draw. OUTSTANDING!

I have a friend that's been recommending the Frames forever. I still haven't picked up any of their records. I finally got around to seeing Once recently and love it. Considering this is a music board I've been surprised there hasn't been more of a response to that movie around here. The Swell Season is playing soon but I didn't act quick enough to buy tix and it's already sold out.

jimmie ray
Isn't the Robert Randolph Band basically a cover band that does funky renditions of 60's + 70's songs? I'm seeing them in a few months, and looking forward to it - but this was my impression...

Deezer
Isn't the Robert Randolph Band basically a cover band that does funky renditions of 60's + 70's songs? I'm seeing them in a few months, and looking forward to it - but this was my impression... No. They have two albums out that are very good. The show I saw them at they played mostly new songs from their recent album Colorblind, including their semi-hit Ain't Nothing Wrong With That. Now, they've been known to pull out Billie Jean and some really cool covers, but they've built up enough material that they're not a cover band. As a matter of fact, here's their discography. Definitely worth checking out: 2002 - Live At The Wetlands http://www.amazon.com/Live-Wetlands-Robert...1662&sr=8-3 1 Ted's Jam 2 The March 3 Pressing My Way 4 Shake Your Hips 5 I Don't Know What You Come To Do 6 Tears Of Joy 2003 - Unclassified http://www.amazon.com/Unclassified-Robert-...pd_bxgy_m_img_b 1 Going In The Right Direction 2 I Need More Love 3 Nobody 4 Soul Refreshing 5 Squeeze 6 Smile 7 Good Times (3 Stroke) 8 Why Should I Feel Lonely 9 Calypso 10 Problems 11 Run For Your Life 2006 - Colorblind http://www.amazon.com/Colorblind-Robert-Ra...=pd_sim_m_img_1 1 Ain't Nothing Wrong With That 2 Deliver Me 3 Diane 4 Angels 5 Jesus Is Just Alright (f/ Eric Clapton) 6 Stronger (f/ Leela James) 7 Thrill Of It 8 Blessed 9 Love Is The Only Way (f/ Dave Matthews) 10 Thankful N' Thoughtful 11 Homecoming Edited April 3, 2008 by Deezer
BUK
On just two listens I'm putting in my vote for album of the year. Raconteurs "Consolers of the Lonely". Kicks major ass. WOW!
Evermore
My current favorites are... Kings of Leon; classic rock played in the modern days. US Southern rock style. Franz Ferdinand; not exactly Zep genere. They are moddish and discoesque, very Eruopean. but I like their approach. All analogue gritty guitars, drums, vocals and thats it. Jahfin
I can't say I've ever thought of Robert Randolph and the Family Band as a "cover band". Yes, they throw in a few songs by other artists on occasion but that sort of thing has never been their stock in trade. I first heard of Robert Randolph on NPR's Morning Edition during a piece they did on Sacred Steel, in other words, the use of pedal steel guitar in the church. Randolph has obviously moved on from that sound now but you can still hear it in the style of several other artists, most notably The Campbell Brothers. Jahfin
K O L are kick ass...saw them live some time back...a must! I must say I don't hear any "classic rock" (whatever that is) or "Southern Rock" in their style. I caught part of their set at ACL Fest a few years ago and could barely tolerate them for the length of an entire song. Just not my cup of tea I guess. Anarchy2Howard
Wolfmother - it's like Led Zeppelin, Black Sabbath, The White Stripes all fused into one band! These guys rock, and are one of my favourite bands! Try "Joker & the Thief" or "Love Train". Arctic Monkeys - probably the leaders of the current Indie rock scene over in England, and they're fucking cool, man! Try "I Bet You Look Good on the Dancefloor" or "Flourescent Adolescent". Dream Theater - a Progressive Metal band who never fail to amaze me with their virtuosity. Try "Pull Me Under" or "Take the Time". The Fratellis - another British Indie band. Check out "Chealsea Dagger" or "Creeping Up the Backstairs". Muse - Possibly the greatest modern Rock band? Try "Knights of Cydonia" or "Invincible". My Chemical Romance - They're actually a really good band, BEFORE The Black Parade. Anything on The Black Parade is a bad example of their music. Try "Demolition Lovers" or "Vampires Will Never Hurt You".
kirchzep27
stuff they've been playing on the station i listen to: aimee mann's current record, recorded with alot of synthesizers and good songs. -the hold steady, singer sounds like bruce springsteen alot, but the band is heavier than -springsteens bands sound, in general. i've heard some comments that other artists, like wilco and lou reed are reccomending this band called dr. dog, caught a song or two and their good. there is also this band with alot of harmonies, fleet foxes, not sure if thats the correct name though.
