  1. I have been hoping that all three guitar solos he reportedly recorded for Stairway will be included in the bonus disc for Led Zeppelin IV. Just don't get any of those Beats by Dr. Dre cans.
  2. It is not just for the selfish reasons of wanting more Led Zeppelin music that I wish John Bonham was still alive, but also so that he could be around for his family and to see how his little boy has grown up and become a talented drummer in his own write. Any reading of Led Zeppelin books and articles will illustrate how John Bonham was a man of many moods, depending on his alcohol intake and the distance between himself and his home. I am reminded of something fellow birthday-boy Walt Whitman, who also was born on May 31, wrote in his "Leaves of Grass": "I am large, I contain multitudes."
  3. As previously noted, the Coda from both the Complete Studio Recordings and The Definitive Collection have the same bonus tracks included. Because the Definitive Collection reproduces the original album artwork and packaging, people see the back cover of Coda and assume it's just the 8 tracks but it is not. For my money, while the sound was the smae for box sets, The Definitive Collection was superior to the earlier box for several reasons. It included The Song Remains the Same, so you got all the 10 releases Led Zeppelin put out in the 1969-1982 time frame. The mini vinyl replica packaging is more fun and accurate than the boring industrial grey slipcases of the Complete Studio Recordings set. I hated that they paired the albums in twos, so that "Presence" was anachronistically packaged with "Houses of the Holy". Plus, you got ALL 6 different covers for ITTOD and the original turquoise lettering cover for Led Zeppelin I along with the orange lettering one. And of course, Led Zeppelin III has the spinning wheel...you don't get that in the cube box set.
  4. Well, as a long time poster I can tell you that I haven't really put much stock or thought into John Paul Jones not making the promotional rounds on this current venture. I just assume he is busy with his own projects and he was always one to let Jimmy and Robert do most of the talking anyway, so I don't read malice, lack of care, or anything disrespectful in his not speaking to the press. Certainly not anything worth being bugged about.
  5. That's what I am counting on and why I never bother with getting things on Amazon/internet. If I have to spend a few bob more going to an actual shop, I don't mind supporting the local brick-and-mortars. Speak for yourself. I plan on taking my sweet time and deeply immersing myself in the pleasures of these first three albums for months. The thought of the next batch of releases won't even enter my mind...I'll be having too much fun with Led Zeppelin I, II, and III.

  7. Trying to cheer myself up after the Kings losing, I've been visiting 1968 tonight... http://youtu.be/hUmY1xznzWE
  8. This is an even better box set...
  9. Happy Birthday John Henry Bonham. Wish you were still with us. I'll be having a pint or two in your honour.
  10. The Rolling Stones are back on the road after the brief suspension of the tour because of L'Wren Scott's passing. They had a special guest at their "Rock in Rio" Lisbon performance this past Thursday. https://music.yahoo.com/blogs/live/the-rolling-stones-jam-with-bruce-springsteen--play-for-bill-clinton-at-rock-in-rio-lisbon-030645621.html
  11. So do I! Could be...who knows? Could it be? Yes it could! Something's coming, something good, If I can wait! Something's coming, I don't know what it is, But it is Gonna be great!
  12. Gotta win tonight...gotta win tonight...gotta win tonight...
  13. From that link above it appears Redbeard's show only appears on one station in California and it's nowhere near Los Angeles...it's some station in Ft. Bragg.
  14. This is the approach I am taking as well. Apart from the Jimmy Page Listening Party, which I mainly watched to see what questions were asked and if anyone from the forum had one of their submitted questions chosen, I have been in Led Zeppelin Quarantine mode for weeks. I didn't even listen to the La La link posted here, nor have I watched any of the latest promo vids posted by Sam. This is all going to hit me like a ton of bricks...or like a lead balloon?...on Tuesday when I purchase my boxes. Regarding your question, though, I cannot imagine there being any modern touch-up recording done on these bonus tracks. For one, it would stick out like a sore thumb adding a 2013 guitar track onto 1968-69 recordings. Remember how intrusive and odd it felt hearing Jimmy's 1982 octave guitar added onto the 1970 RAH "We're Gonna Groove"? And that was with only a 12 year time difference. For another, it just seems logistically and financially unfeasible to have Robert, JPJ, and Jimmy go in and record new parts ala "Coda". Bring on Tuesday!
  15. CHARLOTTE is the one I was thinking of, NOT Baltimore...thanks for reminding me. That's the problem with doing these lists off the top of your head...your memory falters.
  16. Photographer Bunny Yeager passed away at 85. Bettie Page wouldn't be the icon she is without Bunny Yeager's help. http://touch.latimes.com/#section/-1/article/p2p-80309487/
  17. If you're happy I'm happy. Hope the sails thru the treatments.
  18. Fooking hell, that was a frustrating game last night. Looks like our teams are making us sweat it out, zepscoda.
  19. Memorial Day is a National holiday, so the United States is its only celebrant. The Memorial Day that we celebrate every year on the last Monday of May is an American holiday, created to honour the fallen dead of the Civil War. After the defeat of Nazi Germany in May 1945, its purpose was expanded to honour the fallen soldiers of WWII and all wars. Other countries have their own Memorial Days, of course, just as they observe their own Independence Days. For many countries, their Memorial Day is called Remembrance Day, celebrated on November 11, which is the day the U.S. calls Veterans Day. That day came about with the end of WWI. The difference between the two in the U.S. is that Memorial Day is to remember the dead and Veterans Day is to honour all those who have served, alive or dead. Naturally, as with many American holidays, Memorial Day has acquired a consumerist aspect by becoming the unofficial start of summer and people looking forward to the three or even four-day weekend.
  20. No, but it's listenable. Probably not what the op had in mind sound-quality wise, but I had a hard time leaving it off the list. Feel like I should add Ft. Worth '70, Toronto '71, Manchester '71, and Baltimore '72 to the list, too.
  21. When I hear the title "Destroyer" I ONLY think of ONE show: The April 27, 1977 Cleveland soundboard!!! Yes, I'm a stickler about such things...anyone labelling the April 28, 1977 or any other date other than the April 27, 1977 concert "Destroyer" is engaging in typical Japanese bootlegger shenanigans. April 28 is a fine performance...better than the 27th...but to any Zeppelin fan who grew up in the '70s, the Destroyer boot will always be April 27.
