  1. Jimmy has always been very gracious to the fans, at least from what I have seen and experienced. I met him in 1985 at the Pointe Tapatio in Phoenix when he was touring with the Firm. We talked for about 30 minutes about guitar, how he feels about touring and playing live, and a wee bit about his old home in Pangbourne. Just a great guy.
  2. The Hong Kong protesters were not brought there, by force, 400 years ago. They were never enslaved. There was never systemic, institutionalized programs and laws placed against them etc. You cannot compare the Hong Kong protesters who have only recently become the victims of PRC crackdowns to the black experience in America. Also, you are wrong about the Hong Kong protesters as they have indeed been rioting and looting: https://www.globaltimes.cn/content/1190110.shtml and here is a golden oldie from when Hong Kong was still a UK territory (1984): https://www.nytimes.com/1984/01/15/world/hong-kong-shaken-by-a-night-of-rioting-and-looting.html
  3. I guess I would be a shitty critic because my reviews would either be, "good stuff, get this album" or "not my bag man, but if you dig it, right on." Music is just so damn subjective. I hate Ratt's music and most 80's hair bands but I could never give them a review like most critics do. I think the worse thing I would say is "lock up your cosmetics, hairspray, and lingerie ladies, Poison has just released a new album and will coming to your town soon."
  4. Again Steve, tell that to Mayor DeBlasio as the police commissioner of NYC has come out, publicly against him and even somewhat threatened him on more than one occasion. In a perfect world what you say would be the case, however if the force supports the chief / commissioner as well as the union, there is not a thing the mayor or even governor can do unless they plan on putting on a uniform and policing the whole city by themselves. My whole point is when the police act like they are part of the community, instead of against the community, they get positive results. There were no riots in those cities because the police did not approach the protestors as enemies, but instead as neighbors. All these people want is to know their fears and concerns are being addressed, that police are just as accountable as those without a badge and the proof this works is all over the news. I know you believe in personal responsibility as do I, I also understand when people are treated like crap and nothing is being done, they will want to destroy shit, that is just human nature. I feel violence, riot, looting are never the answer, and as I said before it hurts the cause, never helps it. Its hard though to tell a group to protest peacefully, to engage in positive civil disobedience, but when they see the leaders of the non-violent movements being murdered and assassinated it make it kinda hard to take the high road.
  5. I think you know better than that post. It does not matter who runs the state or city, it only matters who runs the police force and how they train and handle their officers. NYC is a perfect example of that, DeBlasio is HATED by the cops and the chief of Police makes his position toward DeBlasio very clear. It is crazy the amount of power the police force has over a community, including the local government. They can do whatever they want and if the mayor or governor tries to go against them or remove them, they just pull the old "blue flu" routine which is their way of telling said governor or mayor, "ok, you want to be a big guy, fine, YOU police the city, my officers have all suddenly come down with the flu and it is a strain very susceptible to government interference.
  6. You know what I find interesting, the cities where the cops are standing WITH the protesters, where they are taking off their riot gear, mingling and talking with the people...no looting or rioting. Hmm, go figure, its almost like when the cops respect and serve the community, everything turns out fine, the people feel their voices are finally being heard. So, we can approach this through the tried and failed method of gearing up, strapping up, and going into riot control formations resulting in riots, looting, beatings etc. with the whole process starting up again when another black person is murdered. Or, we can take the lesson these fine, well trained police officers are giving us by throwing off their egos and power trips and simply standing with the people, empathizing with the community, and being decent human beings in general and thus stopping the violence. Let's see which prevails, the better angels of our nature, or the beast within.
  7. This writer is a dope, its obvious he did little research on his subject and until you reach the top 20 songs, he pretty much shits on the rest either through direct assault or back handed remarks. His opine about how Hots on for Nowhere had some of Plant's worse lyrics was laughable...did he even read them? and I never knew Karak died in a auto-accident...who knew?
  8. I always figured they just taped song names to groupies asses and had them wrestle cage match style. The 15 groupies left standing, well, that was the setlist for the tour. HUZZAH!!!!
  9. Those early Eastwood directed films are really good. Another is the Eiger Sanction, very underrated. And of course Beguiled (that was directed by Don Siegel).
  10. Well, there could be something rather inappropriate such as a K-Pop band pic. Now that would be something though, I know it would make someone happy.
  11. I prefer hybrid strains tipping toward indica dominance so my go to is Pineapple Express, though some Double Black is nice as well. The local dispensary has a good variety. One of these days I really need to just grow my own, figure it would be a nice little project and a rather enjoyable one at that.
  12. Special hugs & kisses issue of Teen Beat magazine, cover picture, 1977. They had a contest where you could win a dream date with Grant too! Enjoy ladies
  13. Considering Page was playing with a broken finger which was healing (or trying to heal) during the 1975 NA tour, the fact he even played is astounding, much less how damn good many of his performances were that year.
  14. What do you think of the May 30th show? I thought that one was pretty good.
  15. Jimmy does all kinds of crazy hybrid picking on several songs but TSRTS is one I could never get to work on the 12 string. I can do a passible version on the 6 but you really need to have the hybrid picking down for the song to sound right. Some of Jimmy's performances on this song which were sub-standard live were due to bad hybrid picking which is super obvious.
  16. You are right on all counts Rose, the difficult parts of IMTOD are the count-in, breaks, various drum fills and Jimmy's solos, especially live but the composition itself is not particularly complicated. AS a guitar player myself for 37+ years, IMTOD is not difficult to play...until you get to the solos. Those are hard solos as they are rather fast for slide work and its very easy to be either flat or sharp with a slide. Rain Song is a pain to pull off correctly, a real challenge. Keep up the writing, what you think is sub-par maybe the next hit. I am sure when Page & Co. were writing their stuff, especially in the earlier days they thought the same thing...not good enough, The Beatles, Cream, & Stones songs are better blah, blah, blah. Yet here we are, Zep is iconic and wrote great songs. Ya know, I think we are our own worse critics, always striving for the One.
  17. I just had me a lovely bourbon & ginger ale with a wee dash o' bitters, some smoke, Tom Waits Foreign Affairs, and a lovely sunset. Just, perfect.
  18. They survived the Hays Code only for some to be blacklisted or destroyed by the illegal HUAC subpoenas. Others, like Stanwyck, John Wayne, Ginger Rogers, and later, after he flipped, Ronald Reagan supported the HUAC traitors and went after their own. Of course there is a special place in hell for Hedda Hopper, the Pied Piper of the anti-communist purges in Hollywood. These movies are great, addressing subject matter which would not be touched until the 1960's. Fritz Lang's M could never have been made under the Hays Code, nor could most of the really good movies from the 20's - 1934. All of this supposedly due to the Fatty Arbuckle scandal.
  19. Holy shit! Jagermeister should use that in an ad. Just imagine seeing that driving down the autobahn at 200 kph.
  20. Just listened to both the 18th & 23rd and those were monster shows, Jimmy is really going crazy, just fantastic playing all around.
  21. That is strange indeed as the only parts of BIOH they took from Dixon were the intro and outro. The main section of the song was 100% original. What I don't understand is why did Zeppelin not either 1. Credit Dixon for the intro & outro only or 2. Just change up the melody slightly and use different lyrics, a very easy feat as both passages were repetitive, short, and lyrically simple. From what I read they only added the intro & outro as a nod to Sonny Boy Williamson (the guy who played and sang the song), but they still should have credited Dixon. But for Dixon to get sole writing credit for a song he contributed roughly 10% to is just wacky.
  22. So true. I go to the occasional bar for the atmosphere and I know I am getting seriously hosed on the price of a drink. I know if I want a guaranteed excellent drink I either need to make it myself at home, or, go to the places that pour generously, know what they are doing, and drop $13 on a drink. Or I can go to the Moose Lodge and have Old Betty pour me one. Betty is old-school and only makes either hard liquor straight or with a single mixer. It ain't complicated or pretty but when she pours four ounces of bourbon to one ounce of coke for $2, you know you are in for one hell of a ride 🙂
  23. Here you go, this one is quite tasty, though I am more a banana daquiri guy myself...or Pina Colada's, those are great on the beach. https://www.allrecipes.com/recipe/32352/best-strawberry-daiquiri/
