  1. My dermatologist recommended Vitamin E oil for surgery scars, so it might help with acne scars--it's very good for your skin, anyway! Didn't do much for my scar, but it was an old one.
  2. I can't really put my finger on it either. The way that his body leans into the bow, which touches the guitar so that they all seem organically connected, the way the sunburst of light focuses on exactly the point where the bow meets the guitar, suggesting a burst of power . . . And something else intangible. That's why I LOVE black and white photography, it's so suggestive.
  3. Getting as much information as possible is certainly key to fighting any illness, and especially cancer which has so many different approaches because it can take so many forms (and has so many causes, including genetics, which nobody can avoid). And what works for one person won't necessarily work for another. All the very best to your wife, and let's hope the steps you've taken will prove successful! To lower the tone a bit--I just stopped by to say, on the subject of cleansers, mousturizers, etc., that one of my pet peeves is the fact that so many of these products contain perfumes (same applies to hairsprays etc., too), which conflict with the perfume you actually WANT to wear. Boots in the UK has a good line called Simple that doesn't have any of these extra ingredients, but needless to say, as soon as I discovered it they stopped making the sizes that were really useful for travel.
  4. This is an absolutely amazing photograph. Possibly the best I've ever seen of him.
  5. Aww, that's tough--one of the hardest decisions people have to make, I think.
  6. Afraid not--there are some real stinkers out there, but then he wouldn't be human if there weren't.
  7. It was pretty well-known--it's not like this is some new information about him. I don't see why it's funny, either. (Though I did think that quote about him being able to shear a sheep with one hand and play the harmonica with the other was pretty funny. )
  8. The 1960 school year is pretty much the earliest he could have enrolled, as he'd have been 16 then, and he'd have needed O Levels or CSEs (which he'd have taken at the end of the previous school year) to be admitted. He couldn't have gone to art school any younger than that, basically.
  9. Seems to me that Jimmy took one look at her and thought "I want as many pics as you can get with this lady." A very cool story, indeed.
  10. Yay!! That's the stuff I teach (especially the African American stuff), it's great! And congratulations on a really successful year, too.
  11. Well, everyone's got different tastes. Those teeth make me cringe!
  12. I guess I'm looking at this from a different time perspective. To me and my friends, Bobby Darin was what the Beatles (and all the bands who followed in their wake) saved us from!
  13. Surely this must be one of the worst pics of Robert ever? Probably on the wall of many dentists' waiting rooms! The others were all great, though, thanks.
  14. Dave Swarbrick, on the other hand, constantly denies this ever happened at all, let alone that there are any tapes (needless to say, Fairport fans desperately want to get their hands on them too, and equally needless to say, nobody believes Swarbrick ).
  15. His fantasy sequence in TSRTS was darn scary compared to the other three!
  16. I think all aspects of women's health are worth discussing, though--there are all sorts of issues that affect women at all stages of our lives. Problems involving menstruation, for instance, or pregnancy. There's no end to the things that can cause havoc to the female body, it seems! And if certain products are going to be problematic, good to know about them early.
  17. All the Kings Horses (there isn't an apostrophe although there ought to be!!) isn't a cover. Sea of Love is, though.
  18. And 29 years on, it still looks the same, more or less. Surprising it hasn't faded more.
  19. Orkney! Never been there but I used to love listening to Donovan's album Gift from a Flower to a Garden, which conjures up the feeling of the area, and of course I've seen pictures. It's one of the most exotic places I can imagine to live, so beautiful and so remote.
  20. Hey Joe. Rockin' at Midnight. Song to the Siren. Ship of Fools. Billy's Revenge.
  21. Seems a crap-shoot who gets affected by these things sometimes, doesn't it? In my family's case, it's all the women on my father's side of the family. From what you and ninelives say, it sounds as if soy in moderation is safe, so that's good to know!
  22. Hmm, I didn't know soy products carried a risk of breast cancer, that's worrisome. (I have a big family history of it, too, and do the yearly mammogram, etc.) Especially as I drink soy milk every day. Hey, was that Bong-Man I just saw?
  23. Handy web site for the keen moviegoer with a weak bladder (pardon me if this has already been posted, I never visit this thread): runpee.com
  24. It was tragic, of course, but they did have another wonderful child after that, and six more years of marriage. And are still good friends.
