leddy Posted January 24, 2011 Posted January 24, 2011 (edited) This was inspired by a post I read yesterday when somebody said they won someting to do with the band or related item. So I thought what have you ever won in a compo ? Could be in a mag, radio, fete,TV etc. 1...I won a book on the "Knebworth Rock Festivals" in 1986 the day before the 86 Festival and Queen with the autogragh of the author on it. I won this on the local radio station around "The Chilterns" area where "Knebworth" is, think it could of benn called "Chiltern Radio" . What I remember is the day before on the station, they had The owners of Knebworth on talking about said Festival, they were giving away This new book to coincide with it. They asked a question and it was first to ring up.....The Question was who headlined "Knebworth 80", I rang and said "Beach Boys" and won it. I then set of to the festival to camp 2...Oh yes how could I forget I won two tickets to the Premiere to "LED ZEPPELIN DVD" at the cinema back in 2003 (think it was then), that was answering some Zep related questions on a BBC website 3. I won a pair of tickets to see "The Rhythm Kings" about 7 years ago and did that again on a BBC website and gave the tickets to my then Father i n law as he was a big fan . Train tickets for a week of free travalling. 3. Free entrance to the O2 concert and soundcheck. 4. A bottle of wine. 5. A photo camera long long ago when I was 13. redrum Posted January 25, 2011 Posted January 25, 2011 I've won a lot of first and second place ribbons for my photographs, including a 'Judge's Choice' ribbon. I also won $100 for the 'Theme Award' photograph (California Gold Rush). I won 2 first place ribbons for my oil paintings. Also got a first place ribbon for one of my scratchboard drawings. I used to do a lot of muzzleloading shooting competition and won a lot of medals and prizes. Back in the late 70's I won a photo contest from the SF Giants for one of my pics of pitcher Bob Knepper and they gave me 2 tickets to the game (Houston Astros) and a new Nikon camera. Though not really competitions I have won some prizes over the years. A Stevie Wonder album from KDIA radio station in San Francisco. I won a muzzleloading rifle on the internet just for submitting my e mail. Quote

Two tickets to see John Mellancamp at the Meadowlands Arena. 4. Southside Johnny CD. 5. Book about music of the 1960's. 6. Two tickets to see Jethro Tull at the Paramount Theater in NYC. Quote
Kiwi_Zep_Fan87 Posted January 25, 2011 Posted January 25, 2011 Hmmm....let's see... Well, when I was 12 years old, I entered this crossword puzzle contest which had been advertised in the newspaper (meant for kids in the age group of 12 to 15 years of age) and I won first prize, which was a 400 page puzzle book. For a 12 year old, it was pretty cool! Quote
TypeO Posted January 25, 2011 Posted January 25, 2011 I won the Presence album soon after it came out from the local radio station. I've won MANY tickets to concerts by being the Xth caller, especially during the 90s when we had a new station challenge the existing mainstream rock station. A new station called Channel Z started up in the early to mid 90s, and played mostly alternative. The response was lukewarm at best, as this is a pretty mainstream area. In fact, to give you an idea, I won 2 tickets to the Grateful Dead in the early 90s, and because it was on a Tuesday night, about an hour away in Columbia (not really that much of an issue if I was a big fan), and the fact that I WASN'T a big fan, I figured I should be able to make a little quick cash by selling the tickets. No one was even vaguely interested. In almost ANY decent-sized city people would have snapped those tickets up in a heartbeat. So anyway, calling in to win tickets was like shooting fish in a barrel. Shows I can remember winning tickets to included: Tool Ministry Living Colour Pigface (a collaboration of Industrial artists including members of Ministry, KMFDM, and about a zillion others - I swear there was over a dozen people playing onstage at one point!) Radiohead and a few others I can't recall immediately. Also a private meet-and-greet with Dada, a minor alternative band with a minor hit you POSSIBLY may have heard, Dizz Knee Land. They actually had a later song that I still like, Dim. I think the coolest thing for me is when I was about 14, I won first place ($50) in a "Caption the photo" contest run in a monthly magazine sent to (I think) American Express cardholders (my parents) called Signature. It was an adult travel/leisure magazine (not porn-adult, just not a kids' magazine), so it was kinda cool that my entry won. Even back then I had a pretty good sense of humor. I used to participate pretty heavily in a Photoshop contest site, Worth1000.com, and I won 3 different contests there, which I am pretty proud of considering the talent pool there. Graphic artists from literally all over the world compete there regularly, and contests often have anywhere from 40 up to over 100 entries. In fact, you may very well have received an email with all kinds of photoshopped pictures, most of which come from Worth1000.com. One of the most popular is "When graphic artists get bored" - Quote

For a 12 year old, it was pretty cool! Kiwi that is pretty cool thing to win! I do like word puzzles myself. The only thing I ever won was an art competition was I was 8. The competition was between all the schools in my local area and I won first prize in my age group! I won a £5 gift voucher. I never seem to win anything in random competitions, I don't really bother entering most of the time - that's probably why I'm not winning anything! Quote
