Sticks of Fire
I have been revisiting some of the live Zeppelin tours recently after many years of burn out. The Spring tour of the USA in March and April of 1970 is kind of repetivite in that the setist was rather stagnant but after all these years OMG, the How Many More Times from Houston 3.29.70 sure has held it's ground and in retrospect I think it's probably the tour highlight with Tampa (4.9.70) and Memphis (4.17.70) and (3.27.70) LA coming in close. The HMMT from Houston is stellar and has the band at it's 1970 best. Page's playing and soloing through out is incendary. Same for Bonham and Jones. The three musicians of the band try three times to get into "For What It's Worth" but Plant (the biggest hippie of the band) doesn't go for it and after the third attempt they stomp into "Tobacco Road" and then the too short tape spool runs out... Just everything about this ranks up there with the best ever live Zep. Do youself a favor and revisit this concert and put a smile on your face...that means you Nutrocker, sam_webmaster, Sue D., ledzepfilm, and countless others out there...
