I think the reason why McCain isn't winning is because he stopped being any sort of maverick and has played the election by the GOP/Karl Rove handbook, which has, at this point in time, damaged his campaign.

McCain should've stuck to his guns and been what he really is or was.

And Pb, Gay marriage has nothing to do with it, and you know it hasn't.

Many many things are going on in America and in the world other than gay people getting married, things of far greater urgency. And if you think that it is a major issue to the point that banning it would put McCain in the lead, I'm sorry but it highlights the fact that you are not living in the real world.

Good post.

I used to say that I wouldn't mind if McCain got elected, but I can't say that anymore. The things I used to respect him for have paled considerably as he started getting into the 'do/say anything to get elected, cheap tactics, etc. That said, I'd still prefer McCain to someone like Romney or Huckabee.

OBAMA SUCKS :D

Obama thinks the economy goes from the ground up, but shit rolls down hill.

Cogent and substantive posts... as usual.:lol:

And McCain would be winning if he was more against gay marriages, he would be winning if He was against the bailout. The only reason people give McCain a chance now is because he found a way to describe the Obama campaign. Socialist. If McCain was on a anti gay platform, it will force the voters to a one issue decision. Obama has to go left and allow gays to be married because McCain will go far right. America is a center right country. If you make the voters vote on one decision, G.O.P. will walk away with it. It's the same tatic the Obama campaign has been playing. Do you want rich people to keep their money, or do you think they should pay their share. Thats why the campaign turned during the economy and thats why there is a hole because McCain turned that questioned around with Joe the Plumber. Should we reward hard work or we should spread the wealth to the people who just won't work.

The Karl Rove swift boat attacks was to make the election about one issue and one question. Obama has used the swift boat tactic to his advantage this year by calling everybody racist, and by starting another class war.

Well I hate to break it to you but Gay Marriage isn't a significant enough issue that a whole US Presidential election could be decided on it.

I know there are some people here on this board who seem to think its the single most important issue in history, but it's not and I think especially in view of the economic crisis, if McCain had made his campaign purely about gay marriage, he would've lost in the primaries.

And really your argument just highlights the Karl Rove/GOP do-anything-to-win policy. And this is the problem. 8 years of the Bush Administration have brought politics down to their lowest denominator. The Karl Rove swift boat attacks on Kerry which, by the way, were not an election decider, Pb, were quite appalling when you consider Bush's military service to his country was non-existent.

And it's this attitude in politics that i think we may be seeing Americans getting sick of. 8 years of Bush slipping and sliding his way through his Administration's poor performance with media shit attacks, fear campaigns, propaganda, slogans etc. Anything to get re-elected, anything to make the poll numbers go up, anything to keep you in power. That's what McCain is whiffing of, and deliberately focusing his whole campaign on gay marriage would've highlighted his desperation to win.

And McCain stands there during this election, a rabbit caught in the headlights. He can't decide if he's going to be the honourable maverick politician he was or if he's going to be the slimey Karl Rove shit smearer.

McCain won't go on about Ayers and Rezko because he doesn't feel right about campaigning in that style, he wants a more honourable campaign than resorting to smear tactics and other gutter-type politics that Karl Rove is famous for. BUT he does resort to smear tactics, as of course all politicans do, including Obama, he is talking about Ayers and Rezko but he won't do it in a convincing way because he can't force himself down that path. Like they did back in 2004 with Kerry when the GOP was standing there shouting out "flip flopper" for half an hour. This year Karl Rove would've had the convention shouting out "Terrorist" and "Muslim" for half an hour, but McCain doesn't want to be that sort of politician.

But instead of believing in himself and his choices, he appeases the GOP by performing an election campaign trick by picking Sarah Palin...

His Campaign machine has trailed through all the muck like suggesting Obama wanted sex ed in pre-schools and all that stuff but so far it hasn't worked.

Obama has been able to define himself as a leader for the future, one with hope and vision, whereas McCain, who could've cut a fine figure for himself, has been caught in the trench between who he is and what the GOP wants. And as a result, he's come out muddled, confused. Glimpses of the maverick with good honourable ideas, weighed down by nasty and desperate smear campaigning and obvious and tacky politican magician tricks meant to dazzle and hopefully merely win the election...

Remember the song Razzle Dazzle? "As long as you keep them way off balance...how can they spot you've got no talents?? Razzle Dazzle them and they'll never catch wise..."

Obama has been able to define himself as a leader for the future - one who endorses books for persons previously engaged in terrorist activities (oddly enough said person needed to call the same people who terrorized him to keep the reporters away), one who listed intently to his Reverend preached anti American rhetoric, one whose single biggest piece of legislation for the State of IL is getting the cops to video tape confessions, whereas McCain, who could've cut a fine figure for himself, has been caught in the trench between who he is and what the GOP wants. And as a result, he's come out muddled, confused. Fixed that for ya pony boy. I'll give the man credit, he is a fine speaker. But, what has he led? Certainly not the Senate's subcommittee on European Affairs. They have yet to convene a single meeting since he took over.

Excellent as always. happy0034.gif

Seems absurb to think that any issue is more important than our Economy (and ending the horrific War). Do people really spend time discussing or caring about what homosexuals are doing? Absolutely ridiculous. If you are sitting around worried about homo's, GET A FRIGGIN LIFE.

McCain...he can't make up his mind, he has no "plans" for this country, he changes his "platform" like he changes he underwear (i hope), he is tempermental (sorry i don't find this to be a strong trait in a leader), and he has terrible judgement....and don't get me started on his judgement :) ...he dug his grave, and i am thankful for that!

HEY! Not a bad idea. :D

He'd make an awesome hat/coat rack too!

B)

had to laugh when i read that...i have a moose rack coat-rack in the log cabin back home.. :D

Tell me, If i, the owner of a small business like a grocery store, just got a 3% raise in my taxes, do you really think im going to eat that. I tell you something you may not know. Most people who start business, only start business to make money for themselves, not other people.

Oh yeah, He wants to raise the Min. wage. So that kid who bags your groceries, will be making $10 an Hour in the Obama Admin. Where do you think extra money is coming from.

just wanted to point out that that 3% raise only applies to the amount over $250,000...so if you make $260,000 your additional taxes would amount to $300...($10,000 x .03)... so i guess if you don't want to pay that extra tax rate, you can choose to limit your income to $250,000...it is america after all!!!

as far as minimum wage being increased i have no problem paying more for groceries if that's what it costs to bring it to my table...the employees have to make enough to survive on...we have the lowest cost of food ever in our history...i read somewhere we now pay around 16% of our living expenses for food whereas is used to be closer to 40% early last century...

Good post.

i think huckabee would have fared much better than mccain... while i don't agree with him on many of the issues, i think he comes across more intelligent, trustworthy and having better judgement/temperament.

Hopefully the next POTUS will be Barack Obama. The page turns and we need a next generation in the White House.

I trust Senator Obama more and he looks people in the eye when he talks to them instead of looking down like he's guilty or afraid of someone else, such as Barack Obama. Surely we don't need someone in office who is this meek in my opinion. We need a leader, someone with new ideas. Not old ideas dressed in silk.

As far as the ideas put forth of the tax 'IDEAS.' Nothing will happen until congress passes these bills to begin with.

Remember Cartoon Rock? How a little bill becomes a law?

So you're hoping for a candidate that votes with his party 97% of the time :hysterical:?

Yup, Barack Obama. 3% of new ideas

As long as the Keebler Elve loses, I have no problem with anyone else who's elected. As far as anyone crying over it like many are. To me this just means they are sore losers and cannot accept that fact.

It's your beer, cry in it. Or throw away a vote.

:hysterical: Oh no, horsey is mad.

Hopefully neither candidate will make things worse for the next four years. At that point we need to pull our heads out and get two better choices to argue over.

Barack is not going to be the savior you all think he is.

I'll just be glad when it's all over so we can all move on with life and end these bloody arguments.

 Are you kidding? Last time we argued even more after the results were in. The pro-Bush folks kept telling us anti-Bush folks to quit whining... so of course we didn't.

Also, there were several Cabinet post changes, and we had a lot of new fodder to argue over. I didn't like Ashcroft and said so... and then he got replaces with <shudders> Gonzales. That's just one example. Politics and politicians have enough bovine excretia for all of us to discuss and rant about indefinitely.

Ok so every four years people cry foul over the voting systems in place, from machines going down, to computers being hacked, to voting cards not being punched through thoroughly  , to discrepancies with ID requirements, etc., etc. What I don't get is why isn't there one system in place nation wide that works? One where, for example, you bring your registration card, but on it is a clear statement that you need 2 pieces of ID with your pic/current address. Then when you go to vote there's a card listing candidates and a pen and you put an "X" beside the candidate/party you support. Then you place said folded card into a box. Then the votes get counted. It works here, it's not full-proof, there are recounts, but it's simple and uniform, so everyone knows what to expect. My God you'd think they'd have come up with something by now, it's not like four years (or eight and counting) is not enough time for a new system to be thought of and implemented.

You mean like liberals have been doing the last 8 years?

Obama, a whopping 3% change we can believe in

This could be the work of Type 0...just a guess. If not another chicken just like him...

I liked him, decent guy. Perhaps a bit angry, but decent nonetheless
