Strider
Wild Flag @ Troubadour 11/2/11 continued...any band that covers Television gets bonus points in my book..."See No Evil": http://youtu.be/Vma1L06mFUM
Jahfin
Sorry to keep you waiting Jahfin...things are coming at me fast and furious these days, so that just when one event is over another is coming around the bend and I barely have time to catch my breath, let alone stop and reflect on past shows I've seen. Thanks for the Wild Flag review, good stuff. Last night I saw Megafaun with Bowerbirds at Haw River Ballroom in Saxapahaw, NC. It's on old saw mill that sits on the banks of the Haw River (surprise, surprise). It's also probably just become my favorite venue in the area. Here's a clip of last night's encore: The Haw River Ballroom sits out in the middle of nowhere in the small town of Saxapahaw. It's about an hour drive from Raleigh but the remoteness of it was also a huge part of the appeal.

Strider
Wilco @ Hollywood Palladium last night. Solid 2-hour plus show with two encores(they played a little past the 11pm curfew) with a few surprises in the setlist. Since they're playing three shows in LA, I'm sure the setlist will vary from night to night...oh, if only Led Zeppelin had done this in 75 and 77. Jeff Tweedy told a funny Sammy Hagar story which I will relate over on the Wilco thread, as well as talk about the show in more detail. Here's the setlist: 1. Art Of Almost 2. I Might 3. Bull Black Nova 4. At Least That's What You Said 5. I Got You (At The End Of The Century) 6. Born Alone 7. You Are My Face 8. Impossible Germany 9. Kamera 10. I Must Be High 11. I'm Always In Love 12. Jesus, Etc. 13. Capitol City 14. Handshake Drugs 15. War On War 16. Dawned On Me 17. Hummingbird 18. A Shot in the Arm Encore: 19. Via Chicago 20. Whole Love 21. Candyfloss 22. Monday 23. Outtasite (Outta Miind) Encore #2: 24. The Lonely 1 Edited January 25, 2012 by Strider
Jahfin
Kathleen Edwards with Hannah Georgas at the Cat's Cradle in Carrboro, NC last night. Kathleen brought out Justin Vernon for a couple of songs mid-set, "Wapusk" (which isn't on her new album but can be purchased on 45) and "Mercury" from her debut record, Failer. Justin and Kathleen's lead guitarist got into a guitar duel during "Mercury" that was nothing short of face melting. Justin also sat in on both encores. We absolutely refused to let her leave the stage. Great concert all around with lots of favorites from Failer (one of my favorite debuts ever) as well as a heaping helping from her new record, Voyageur. Jahfin
Todd Snider w/ Rosi Galon at the Clayton Center in Clayton, NC this past Saturday night. There were many highlights during the show, many of which have since made their way onto YouTube, including this one. If you've never heard this song before I strongly suggest giving it a listen, especially if you love rock n' roll.
TypeO
Tool, Feb. 8, in Duluth, GA (Outside ATL). Everything I imagined and then some. The show was absolutely incredible. I was in 122, back left corner of the floor, first row (the aisle around the floor was directly in front of me. Other than a fat bitch (literally being a bitch) working security who kept shining her light in front of me trying to "bust" phonecam users, the view was great, and the sound was incredible. For me, the show confirmed my opinion that Tool is, without a doubt, the greatest band in existence today. They have achieved the same iconic level of being that Led Zeppelin had in the 70s. The only other group to even come close to this level was perhaps Metallica during the 80s. They combine all the elements: the mystique, the incredible studio releases and the ability to perform the material live flawleesly. I'm 51, and I've seen a lot of concerts, but last night may have been the best performance (combination of music and visuals) I've ever seen by any band ever. Jahfin
Last show I saw was Jeff Hart & the Ruins at Fat Daddy's in Raleigh last night. Prior to that it was Dan Baird & Homemade Sin with Terry Anderson & the Olympic Ass Kickin' Team at the Berkeley Cafe in Raleigh on Thursday night. Here's a couple clips from the show. The first is of the Olympic Ass Kickin' Team which features Terry Anderson, the original writer of "Battleship Chains" but is probably more well known for the version the Georgia Satellites did. Terry has penned a number of other fairly well known songs including "I Love You Period" and "I Can Give You Everything" which was recorded by the late, great Ms. Etta James. Jahfin
Yesterday I attended the Rock Against Amendment One Rally at the Pinhook in Durham, NC which included performances from Amy Ray (of Indigo Girls), Kooley High and Mount Moriah. For those unfamiliar with Amendment One here's some more information on it: Constitutional amendment to provide that marriage between one man and one woman is the only domestic legal union that shall be valid or recognized in this State. If it passes, it will amend Article 14 of the NC Constitution by adding a new section: Sec. 6. Marriage. Marriage between one man and one woman is the only domestic legal union that shall be valid or recognized in this State. This section does not prohibit a private party from entering into contracts with another private party; nor does this section prohibit courts from adjudicating the rights of private parties pursuant to such contracts. A friend of mine has posted a few clips from yesterday's rally to YouTube. The first one, from Amy Ray's set, includes a brief segment at the beginning from Melissa York, the drummer from Amy's backing band, the Butchies, in which she speaks out agains the amendment. Walter
Jane's Addiction this past Tuesday @ House Of Blues. They played a great set all the usual visuals, Perry's wife and another woman dancing, stripping and simulating various acts - including being murdered during "Ted, just admit it..." by a guy who reminded me of the clown in Porno For Pyros sets back in the 90's. They were in fine form both musically and vocally - played some from all 4 studio albums, but heavy on Ritual.... In the middle of the show some goons decided to have a mosh pit, pushing over women and some young teenagers for their own enjoyment. Never ceases to amaze me how people infringe on others without any thought as to anyone else's personal space or safety. Didn't ruin the show....just put a damper on it. Recorded a bit of the show on my phone and it turned out pretty good. Just gotta figure out how to post it....

Jahfin
The last one I saw was The Amateurs performing during Live Reggae Sundays at Southland Ballroom in Raleigh on Sunday night. Prior to that I saw Tonk, Shark Quest, The Whom (Motocaster fronted by Paul Siler of Birds of Avalon) performing Live At Leeds-era songs from the Who and Benji Hughes at Tonk Meat at King's in Raleigh on Saturday night. The "Meat" part refers to the free tamales that were served out on the street in front of King's prior to the show. Saturday afternoon I caught Drivin' n' Cryin' performing at Schoolkids Records in Raleigh in support of their new Songs From the Laundromat EP. They were in the area to do a show with The Connells at the Cat's Cradle in Carrboro later that evening. They did pretty much all of the songs from the new EP as well as one cut from the next one (they're releasing a new EP every three months over the course of the next year). They also brought up one of the members of local band Skullbuckle to back him on "Way Back When", a Skullbuckle song. Someone filmed the entire in-store. Hopefully it will surface online at some point. I've managed to catch a number of in-stores at Schoolkids over the years and this was one of the best.
