slave to zep
Because s/he was asking about Robert's early band whose name is often cited as "Hobbstweedle" (though as part of the thread discusses, the spelling is inaccurate). The thread then evolved to discuss Robert's early career generally, then Blocoboy arrived with all this great info. oops, i was thinking that blocoboy was the original poster, and thought it was odd that he titled it wrongly. never mind, i need sleep. Blocoboy
oops, i was thinking that blocoboy was the original poster, and thought it was odd that he titled it wrongly. never mind, i need sleep. I wanted to find some info about the Crawling King Snakes so I thought I'd check on the official Led Zep site and found this thread..I was suprised to find that their is little or no stuff about Rob3erts early career. I don't know how much of the stuff I have has been seen before so If it is old hat just tell me. Here's an interesting item from the Walsall Observer dated 25th November 1966. Please excuse the quaility of the pic (I think it's well known though). The pic and article belong to each other. The following article is worth a read. I find the last paragraph very interesting: the names of the band members, Robert is listed as Rob3ert Lee. I've never read that he used any other name other than his actual name, Plant. Great info! Aquamarine
Never seen that article before! Didn't know they reached the stage of being pulled offstage by fans, either. I must admit, I'm getting a much clearer picture here of Robert's early career.

I'll make a note of the groups listed..are their any of them that can be identified as definitely having Rob3ert play in them. "You Better Run " has an interesting story and I have a couple of articles that compliment the one I posted earlier..my usual question..is their any interest or am I just repeating a previously covered topic. Aquamarine
I shall always think of him as Rob3ert now. Black Snake Moan - Plant's first major band c. 1964/65. But I don't think they did very many formal gigs. The Banned - Plant was with them sometime before joining the Crawling King Snakes c. 1965. The Willenhall Baths and "Autumn 66" gigs are the same thing..it doesn't help that Slade didn't exist for another 3 years..the confusion is probably because the 'Nbetweens became Slade. A couple of the venues listed are a bit strange.."Bent Jade" and the "Established Owl"? Is the Bromsgrove July 20 1969 gig before or after the Walsall Teacher training gig? Blocoboy
"You Better Run" was released by Listen and The 'Nbetweens within a week of each other..The 'Nbetweens version made No 1 in the local charts..the Listen release appears to have vanished without trace despite their appearance at WH Smiths in Walsall...The 'Nbetweens did their record promo at Cliff and Halifax (a Wolverhampton record shop) who produced the local chart..which might explain something. This is from the Wolverhampton Express and Star 24th November 1966- This from the December 1966 issue of Midland Beat
Aquamarine
I think the song's writers should have been spelled Cavaliere and Brigati, as in Felix and Eddie of the Young Rascals. Slade looked pretty cool back then! Like it better than the skinhead look.
