Mattmc1973
this whole controversy is ridiculous. 15 days in prison and deportation for naming a teddy bear Mohammed. And now people are demonstrating and going crazy calling for her execution. This is exactly why you can't spread democracy to that part of the world, because a integral part of democracy is freedom of speech and religion. If you can be imprisoned, lashed, deported, and even executed, for something this benign, it just shows how upside down things are over there. If what she did was that offensive, sit down and educate her, don't round up the lynch mob. From a Yahoo article... Muhammad Abdul Bari, secretary-general of the Muslim Council of Britain, accused the Sudanese authorities of "gross overreaction." "This case should have required only simple common sense to resolve. It is unfortunate that the Sudanese authorities were found wanting in this most basic of qualities," he said. The Muslim Public Affairs Committee, a political advocacy group, said the prosecution was "abominable and defies common sense." Archbishop of Canterbury Rowan Williams, spiritual leader of the world's 77 million Anglicans, said Gibbons' prosecution and conviction was "an absurdly disproportionate response to what is at worst a cultural faux pas." The Prophet (Allah bless him and give him peace) said, “Lying is wrong, except in three things: the lie of a man to his wife to make her content with him; a lie in war, for war is deception; or a lie to settle trouble between people” (Ahmad, 6.459. Old Scratch
...and for those about to attack me please remember that most Muslims think women do not have rights!! What do you mean? In the holiest land in Islam (Saudi Arabia) women have the right to not have driver's licenses, to be seen in public only with a male escort, and not to vote....and to be punished for being raped. ~
Old Scratch
If what she did was that offensive, sit down and educate her, don't round up the lynch mob. Educate ... her? tsk tsk. Maybe we should educate non-muslim women that they need to cover up, stop driving, accept a good beating every once in a while, keep their mouths shut if they are raped, and only go out in public with an *appropriate* male escort. Yeah. Non-muslims REALLY need to be educated. Because we are pretty friggan ignorant and backward. ~666 PS - on another note ... did you know there are no homosexuals in Iran? Old Scratch
And anyone who says otherwise must be stoned and then receive forty lashes. Actually, it would be lashed then stoned. Stoning ends the story. Have you ever seen video of a stoning? They bring the condemned out ... man or woman, cover their head in a hood ... then bury them up to the chest. Then a mob of people take rocks that, by law, must not be too small as to not cause a lot of pain and damage, but not too large as to cause death too quickly. Then they start chucking these things at the people's head; blood pours everywhere, until the people getting stoned slump over after their brains have been bashed out. It's heavy stuff. "...The father, a devout Muslim, informed the authorities about the "disgrace" the young girl had caused the family. While Zhila as been sentenced to stoning, her brother, jailed in Tehran, is to receive only 150 lashes, in accordance with Islamic laws. On August 10, 1994, in the city of Arak, a woman was sentenced to death by stoning. According to the ruling of the religious judge, her husband and two children were forced to attend the execution. The woman urged her husband to take the children away, but to no avail. A truck full of stones was brought in to be used during the stoning. In the middle of the stoning, although her eyes had been gouged out, the victim was able to escape from the ditch and started running away, but the regime's guards recaptured her and shot her to death..."
