  1. Seriously! What have they done of any note since Ritchie left the band?
  2. That's it right there! In the "old days" (early/mid sixties), studio heads had no idea what this new generation wanted, so a lot more weird music with "limited commercial potential" was produced. Yup, that music scene was "of its time". The conditions will never be like that again. WWII had a lot to do with that. Short answer: NO. For the reasons above and more: 1. The 'baby boom' generation was a unique event, the affluence, shared experience, and sheer numbers created a demand for the product of Rock and Roll. But, as Steve pointed out, it's a corporate formula now-a-days, and music is divided into countless genres and styles. 2. The British "Art-school" movement trained so many of the best and brightest in music just before the whole 60's scene broke. The level of talent and competition in Rock (and Soul) will never be matched. 3. The rise of MTV made music a "spectacle" to be viewed instead of listened to. Before then ugly, but musically talented people could be rock stars (Mick?, Steven Tyler?, etc) "Video killed the radio star.

  4. RIP Dan Hicks! He was in the ORIGINAL 1960's San Francisco rock band, the Charlatans, before the Jefferson Airplane, The Grateful Dead, or Big Brother.
  5. Blue Train is just STUCK in my head for the past week. Usually I can kill an ear worm with a few loud listenings but this one won't go away! So I've been listening to a bunch of live Page and Plant all week...
  6. It's our usual "false spring" in February here in the SF Bay Area, high 60's to low 70's for the Super Bowl!
  7. I took the shell off my racing snail because I thought it would make him faster. If anything, it made him a little more sluggish. Someone stole my mood ring, I don't know how I feel about that. Sorry, I haven't slept for four days because that would be too long.
  8. Yes, Close to the Edge. I've been listening to their new release "7 from '72", a complete digital remaster of the seven shows they multi-tracked during the making of "Yessongs". If you are (were) a Yes fan, these shows are worth a listen. And if the $70 price tag is too much, (I think that's a good deal for a 14 disc set!) they released a compilation called Yes Progeny.

"But your holy place shall be untouched throughout the centuries: though with fire and sword it be burnt down & shattered, yet an invisible house there standeth, and shall stand until the fall of the Great Equinox..." (CCXX III: 34)
  11. Merry Christmas to you rm2551 and to all here at LZ.com! And Happy New Year while we're at it!
  12. We're going to cut down a Christmas tree! Maybe make cookies this afternoon too! Merry Christmas everyone!
  13. The Adventures of Rick and Morty. Best animated show on TV, best Sci-fi show on TV
  14. Geminids meteor shower December 13-14. Forecast is for rain here however...
  15. Just listened to the new Yes "Progeny" live album from '72. It is the two disc compilation of their new release of seven complete live shows from the same year. These shows were recorded to produce the mushy mess Yes Songs. Now digitally remastered they sound so much clearer! A great upgrade for any Yes fan. Chef sez "reccomendo!"
  16. Yeah! Copenhagen '70 is the last truly-great-from-beginning-to-end Hendrix show! If you are a Hendrix fan you owe it to yourself to find a copy. I have the "Three source vibratory merge" version. It's pretty rough but about the best of the six or so audience recordings available. The version of New Rising Sun will bring tears to your eyes! Maybe a soundboard will surface someday! P.S. Happy Birthday Jimi!.
  17. I still have my Nak and about 200 cassettes, I had over 500 at one time, all bootlegs. I don't play them much, most shows have been replaced by upgrades on CD, DVD or FLACs. Anybody ever use Sony Super Beta Hi-Fi tapes for audio recording? They made great, low noise recordings! I have hours of Greg Stone's Stone Trek progressive rock radio on Beta.
  18. Just received two "Duane era" Allman Brothers Band shows in the mail yesterday! March 13, 1970 and Jan. 17, 1971. That's what I'm going to do this afternoon!
  19. I am building a goat shed for my daughter, later I will be building up a bicycle wheel for a different daughter. Tonight I will BBQ some jerk chicken for dinner, all while listening to Led Zeppelin of course!
  20. Ya get whacha pays for! People want cheap stuff and manufactures are happy to oblige. There's still a lot of really high quality products produced but they ain't cheap, like Gibson guitars, Ford trucks, McIntosh amplifiers, etc. The internet can be a great source of consumer reviews, look before you buy!
  21. Most people have absolutely no idea what "hand made" means!
  22. Frankie and Grace. This show is totally hilarious, it's on Netflix and stars Jane Fonda and Lily Tomlin, check it out.
  23. Sturgill Simpson at the beautiful Fox Theater in Oakland, November 18th.
