Last Friday and then again Monday night I saw the brand new restoration of Jean-Luc Godard's "Le Mépris" (aka "Contempt") for its 60th anniversary. Jack Palance, Michel Piccolo, Fritz Lang, and the gorgeous Brigitte Bardot trying to make a film of Homer's "Odyssey" in the sun-drenched Isle of Capri. The restoration was supervised by the film's cinematographer Raoul Coutard, who corrected all of the mistakes made in previous re-releases in the colour saturation, filters, and exposure levels. Not since the film's first release in 1963 has it looked this good.
