When are they going to teach today's players to hit the other way?  These shifts on every batter are so ridiculous and they only work because today's players cannot typically hit the other way.  Last night with a runner on first and the first baseman holding the runner, the Rays had 3 infielders between second and third.  There was 90 feet of wide open space between first and second.  The batter should be able to punch one through the right side, and if you send the runner he gets to third.  Instead as usual he pulls the ball to shortstop for an easy double play.  So predictable and yet so preventable.

The other thing they need to teach batters is how to bunt.  Even in Little League they used to teach how to bunt and how to hit the other way.  But they can't bother to teach fundamentals to major league players?

I agree. It is maddening. Players are too prideful and egotistical to bunt or hit to the opposite field.

If Pete Rose and Joe Morgan had faced shifts in their day, they would have bunted mercilessly until teams gave up shifting. They would have batted .400 or .500 easily.

I guess I will watch the Series on mute.  Joe Buck is more insufferable than ever, and that is saying something.

That's why I put in Led Zeppelin bootlegs when I watch games. It's a great way to pass three-plus hours. For instance, for tonight's Game 4 I listened to May 18, 1975 Earls Court. The game ended just as the last note of "Black Dog" rang out.

I am happy the Dodgers won!!!!  To hell with the Yankees and the Astros.  My small market team has been victim to those tams long enough.  The Dodgers and Orioles were the best teams in baseball when I grew up in the 70s.  They had the best farm systems.  It was not all about free agency  But since that has become the game for the most part at least in success, let the Dodgers win it!!!  They are the only other team other than my Orioles that I can stomach

Not that I feel slighted (I don't dislike the Dodgers), but I had a feeling that taking out Blake Snell after giving up one hit in the 6th was going to bite Tampa in the ass & it happened that very inning. I haven't turned on ESPN or even FS1, but I imagine Kevin Cash will get called out for that blunder....

It hasn't helped his cause that in the post-game interviews Kevin Cash drones on about following the computer numbers and analytics and how going with your gut has no place in baseball...at least, not in Tampa Bay.

I guess Kevin Cash has never heard the words of Major Gen. Frederick C. Blesse: "NO GUTS! NO GLORY!"

Yeah, Snell had already fanned Mookie Betts twice before that, so why not let him go the distance? Anyway, congrats to the Dodgers & Kershaw, who has the monkey off his back--he's still not in Koufax territory yet, but maybe a ring next year will get him closer...

He has a long long way to go.

Koufax had a world series ERA of 0.95 in 57 innings  61 Ks  11 BB, 36 Hits, WHIP = 0.825, four complete games

1959 he was 0 - 1 but he gave up only one run in 9 innings for the loss

1963 he had 2 complete game victories

1965 2 complete game victories ERA = 0.38

1966 while his arm was falling apart he lost a game giving up 1 ER in 6 innings

And do not forget the stinking Houston Astros part in all of this. Baseball took a hit just like they did back in 1919.  Those cheating bastards dodged what was coming to them because of Covid. Can you imagine them going into stadiums?/  I was really looking forward to that. They would have been booed out of Dodger stadium.  And Yankee stadium.  The Dodgers would have won that Series also.  Guaranteed!   It went 7 so it made a difference for sure

At the sportsbook monday I threw $2 to the wind.  I bet $2 on my Orioles to win next years Series.  LOL.  $2 gets me $150.  If a miracle happens

Yeah...every other team gets covid and the Orioles win by default. 😛

Will new ownership open up the purse strings a bit this offseason--not that I'm certain if there's any big-time pitching available, which is exactly what the Mets need....

Some of Tampa's pitchers may be available.

I do believe they are getting better though.  Seriously.  I like the staff.  They have Means, Kremer and the other kid I cant think of his name right now.  I believe we have a pretty solid young starting rotation to start with.  I am hoping they keep Nunez?  And Severino but unlikely as they have Sisco and who knows what shape they are in in free agency.  Covid could end it for small market teams?

I saw game 7 of the 1965 World Series on tv the other day.  It was like being in another galaxy.  Koufax pitched a complete game shutout on TWO DAYS REST.  He faced a lineup with Tony Oliva and Harmon Killebrew.

But the best part was every batter stayed in the batter's box between pitches.  None of them had to step out after EVERY PITCH to adjust some stupid velcro that makes no difference.  For starting this trend, Nomar Garciaparra deserves a special place in hell.  It has ruined the game.

And, both pitchers took about 10 seconds after getting the ball back to throw the next pitch.  Imagine that.

During my downtime during the quarantine, I blazed through the complete World Series of 1975-1986. Games over in two-two and a half hours instead of the four plus hours it takes today.

I have also seen data that another factor in the length of games is that the commercial breaks between innings have been getting longer.

Absolutely. Because some of the feeds I have been watching include the commercials it is easy to compare. Two quick commercials during a break instead of the four or more you get in today's games.
