The 81st Academy Awards

THE FIRST LEDZEP

You said it right. I saw Gia long time ago, those types of roles suit her, as well as almost everything else she's done. I don't think she can do heroine roles. She thrives on predatory/ aggressive characters (art imitating life? dunno.... or maybe her lips call for these types of characters). Whatever those lips look porny lol.

Yeah, their drumbeaters are lying to Brangelina. Or the whole of Hollywood is plain stupid. These two are as meaningless as can be. Only the tabloid reporters (in their payroll?) are really following them in their charity work. I think choosing between these 2, I'd pick Angelina anytime over Brad Pitt, who looks plain dumb, a male bimbo if you will, toting Angelina like his Paris's chihuahua.

Anyway, I'm glad Julia Roberts is back making movies. She's easier to look at.

I like Brad better than Angelina. He doesn't seem like the brightest blub on the tree, but I personally think he's a better actor and seems more likeable as a person, IMO.

Whether Ledger's death was accidental or deliberate, he unquestionably deserved the nomination and the win. He carried that movie, from the moment it was hyped, through his death and the press, right to the box office. His performance is what made that movie what it is. A masterpiece. He did exactly what a supporting actor is supposed to do in a flick. Appear on screen for a brief time, make the movie his own and leave without letting the audience forget his presence. No one else in 2008 came close to impacting a movie like he did. That's why he deserved the honor, alive or dead.

Totally agree, apart from the bit about a supporting actor being supposed to make a movie his own--by definition, he's supposed to support the leads rather than eclipse them. But I actually think his performance did support the movie as a whole.

Regarding Angelina, I get what you all are saying about her smirkitude. Still, I wouldn't be too depressed if I woke up one morning looking like her. :D

I wouldn't say he was stupid, but I definately sense that Angelina's the driving force in the family.

I think many may miscontrue Angelina as being arrogant or smug, but I think there's a vulnerability to her. I personally believe motherhood is important to her because she wants to make up for her children what she felt she lacked as a child - a father figure. I think she wants to make sure her children feel a stability she clearly didn't.

I like them both as actors, but they're both limited. Brad was amazing in Jesse James, yet I thought he was a little cringeworthy in Burn After Reading. I don't think he pulls off comedy well, but at least he tries.

Shut up.

Why don't you and the rest of the "perfect people" do the same. I honestly could give a flying monkey if you think I'm a bigot or not. I know I'm not. Also, I called my GAY friend in CA to tell them about this and he laughed at you guys. "Like I'm sure they never have made fun of someone in their lives" is what he basically said. Get over it clowns. So go ahead and FLAME ON (all puns intended).

P.S. To the more open-minded people on here...rock on!

I think many people here are open minded. You are being completely insensitive and disrespectful. This is not a small group of friends you know personally and hang out with. This is a public forum with thousands of members from all over the world, all races, religions etc. How about a little tolerance. Has nothing to do with anyone here thinking they're perfect. Really it's just a childish attitude you're taking.

We don't really give a rat's ass if your random gay friend is laughing at us. Seriously. Totally don't care.

BTW, do you ever notice how when someone is called out for making racial jokes or jokes about sexual orientation, they always have to follow it up with "I totally have a gay/black/Jewish/Muslim/etc,. friend so I'm not a bigot/homophobe/racist/etc.,."

I have always found that interesting.

Kind of like the way any sentence that begins "I'm not a racist but . . " means "I'm a racist."

Wolfman

Liberals are the least open minded people out there. You either a racist, bigot, sexist or stupid in their eyes.

P.S. I don't have gay friends, the ones i met thought i was a bigot because i wanted to protect marriage and give them civil unions. I was willing to be their friend, they, not so much.

No, it's just that the other people with more brains are offline because they need to get up early for work. :D

Hi Aqua...how ya' doing? Funny I was thinking of you (and your friend from Brazil) the other day. I was reminiscing about the O2 trip and how I was on the tube with you two. Too bad I didn't say hi that night. Still one of the best days ever though, huh?

Well, we didn't realize it was you! (And vice versa, I guess.) Yes, certainly was one of the best days ever! The excitement of that tube trip, and the show we were going to see . . .fantastic. B)

From the standpoint that you are not being understood, you have my sympathy.

Mickey should of won, but his forthright views have upset too many Academy people in the past so I bet that went against him. He even conceded to Sean before the ceremony, knowing that his chances of a win were not that good. Shame, as he is brilliant.

I am a bit surprised about the amount of Oscars Slumdog won.... I haven't seen it, but a few friends have and I have read average reviews. Comes across as being a tad overrated?

Really, it isn't. Its the kind of movie you come out of a theatre actually affected by. The child actors are mesmerising.
