  1. Southampton is mediocre compared to the Continental shows . The problem with multi tracks (if they existed) is Plants vocals are so fucked they'd have to be seriously edited for official release. That's true of most anything from 73, 75 and a much of 77 too...though he was in better voice in 77. Jimmy and Bonzo were off the chain in spring of 73 . I'd be happy with Soundboards of just the instrumentals.
  2. This is absolutely a great idea, I've been saying and hoping this for a while too. Pie in the sky. Shame, because it would be relatively easy and it would sell.
  3. That's amazing! You and I are about the same age, and I grew up in Chicago. I wish I had a hip cousin or family member that would have taken me to the Stadium that April of 77! At that time I was 10 , I was in the KISS Army, still had yet to discover Zeppelin. That happened in late '78 when my dad took me to see TSRTS. We went way off topic here but I enjoyed the tangent. As far as the speculations about Jimmy's drug and alcohol impacting his playing...to my ears there is no question it had a significant impact on his articulation. He always retained the fire and creativity, and there are definitely some brilliant solos on that tour , but I can't agree that his playing post 75 was ever as fluid and lucid as 73 and earlier.
  4. Amen...And why didn't Jimmy use the more live era appropriate companion material for the subsequent reissues? Strange that the 1st companion disc was all that fairly poorly recorded show then , nothing else live. It would've been so great to have a smattering of live versions of songs from each album. Even just a handful. Spilt milk but...Just sayin.
  5. This has been extensively discussed in other threads. Use the search feature to find loads of commentary about this topic.
  6. Yes, but some boards are just not as enjoyable to my ears than the audience tapes. Bonzo's Birthday comes to mind. New Orleans 73, Baton Rouge 75. All really excellent sources , rivaling Millard's fidelity IMO.
  7. Indeed. I thought the Classic Albums series was brilliant and while it's long gone...Eddie Kramer along with the Jones, Page and Plant would be able to do a really worthwhile documentary. They need to get cracking though. Time marches on.
  8. I guess what I'm hoping for is too improbable. But seeing Peter Grant filming while they were absolutely tearing through songs in Sydney made me think how great it would be to have some unseen footage synced up with a decent recording. If it's 8mm or 16mm it would most likely be grainy and very fragmented but the clips from Sydney I watched blew me away, even though they're pretty chopped up. It would be so great to see clips for the first time, of any tour. If Peter's son reads this thread then...please give us some rare vids!!! Thanks in advance.
  9. Wondering if anyone here knows anything about Peter Grant's home movies of life with Zeppelin. I was watching the 16 mm footage of the Sydney concert shot from the side of the stage and Grant can be seen holding a camera on the other side of the stage. I assume there must be a treasure trove of footage of the band that he shot throughout the years . Anyone out there know about this? Maybe his son will release some footage as part of a 50th anniversary retrospective ? ( Pie in the sky , but...)
  10. All bollocks. Empress Valley's Dancing Again is as good a title as any.
  11. So many!! One comes to mind now. "The man with a bicycle clip caught in his sock"....I think that's from Baton Rouge 75
  12. I wondered this too because it seems odd that he was going grey/gray at 36. Never saw traces of that in any other pic. It looks like a bandage to me. Or something...
  13. Damn, there's a palpable sadness in their expressions. Page looks weary, haggard, with that long ash cig hanging from his mouth.
  14. Indeed!! Yes, I read that too. You can see the spare snare on the stage in some photos. There's a show , Leicester 71 , where Bonzo breaks his bass drum head on Celebration Day.
  15. Reasonable guess! Looks like a right hot and uncomfortable outfit!
  16. Hmm, that looks like a clear head on the snare in the pic with the goofy mask. Is that Newcastle 72?? It's a different color and texture than the tom head and it looks like you can see the bottom edge of the drum though it, even part of the snare wires.
  17. I remember reading some place that Page wanted to hear how the Dazed jam and WLL medleys were sounding post gig so that's why he had those sections recorded off the board. I've never heard of any complete March 73 Europe tapes existing. Some of their best played shows ever IMO, although Plant is in very rough voice for that tour.
  18. Yes, but possible they're in the hands of hoarders. BTW, the soundboard fragment for Long Beach 72 is one of the best I've ever heard. Much better than any 75 or 77 board. It's a multi track, not a board feed. That would be the money, to get that whole show!

    Bonzo

Never saw this pic before. Wonder where and when taken?
  20. Yes, the floor toms...but I think there is another shot where you can clearly see the snare and possibly tom head are clear. Also, this was taken in Australia, over a year before the other pic from Paris. If I find that pic I will post it.
  21. Looks like Halloween judging from the gorilla suit. LOL.
  22. I wholeheartedly agree with all of this. Too many inconsistencies with Page's sloppy and sometimes meandering playing and Plant's croaking to have a complete show from 75 or 77 without major doctoring and I don't think Plant especially would ok a warts and all performance. Perhaps a cherry picked assortment of material from '73 ( if there's any in the can) , 75 Earls Court, any good 77 video and Kneb shows.
