  1. Pretty much every song off of HOTH which was performed live is superior to the studio version. Especially TSRTS / RS combo & NQ. These three songs on the album were missing something which was brought out live. I never liked the altered vocals of TSRTS stdio version as it make the song sound somewhat weak even though the instrumentation is epic, same with RS. Robert's live presentation of these songs (except for 75') was on-par with the musicianship. NQ studio I always skip over because to me it sounds like LZ in lounge act mode...almost, whereas the live versions were just grandiose and sinister.
  2. Sick Again was supposed to sound muddy, sludgy, and nasty to meet the theme of the song. Sick Again is one song they could never pull off live as one, it was too bright sounding live and two, it really needed a second guitarist playing rhythm during the solo. When Jimmy broke into the first solo, the song just felt thin and lacking live. I almost always skip SA live because of this. The studio mix IMO is what made the song.
  3. What exactly does this mean? Will Jimmy be playing guitar or adding musical texture to her poetry? This is rather vague. I have to admit, regarding Scarlett I did chuckle a bit however if Jimmy does play music behind her poetry, there could be serious potential for great music. I can imagine something along the lines of Mazzy Star as that would suit them both quite well.
  4. My father grew up and was good friends with Conrad (his actual first name) in Chicago and both worked on the docks at Consolidated Freightways. They both flew out to California in 1957, Conrad to pursue acting, and my father on a business trip for the trucking company. As history has shown Conrad did quite well for himself and for decades after would rib my father as my dad stayed in trucking. Conrad even wanted to get my dad into the movies with bit parts a few times but my dad would not leave Chicago. They stayed in touch up until my fathers death in 2004. Conrad & my dad were two crazy Pollacks growing up on the southside of Chicago. The stories those two would tell about growing up. I only met Conrad a few times but he was a very nice guy. Last time I saw him was around 1995.
  5. The cops likely puled them over just to find out how the hell a Kia could be doing 95. Long before Clint did The Mule, I knew this old guy (old to me, I was 15 he was 67) in the neighborhood who was constantly going out of town on "business" but with an erratic schedule and always very casually dressed. This was the early 80's and shit like that just did not happen. Businessmen wore suits back then...always and did not leave and return at odd hours. The guy was very nice & kind, very friendly to everyone. As he lived two doors down from me we wound up friends. Turned out this guy was a drug courier running weed out of BC to the States. He was doing this because he had a very disabled son who had been in specialized institutions since he was in his early 20's due to a serious car accident. Guy did this until around 73 years old at which point he got out of the business as his son had passed away. This guy never got so much as a ticket, never stopped, searched, nothing because he was not some moron, he did his research, drove different routes each time and never used the same border crossing twice in a row. As he was an older, very genteel looking man driving a 1972 International Scout he was never bothered. Now THAT'S how you run dope.
  6. The problems with soundboards are they that they are typically dry sounding, no ambience. A good aud has depth and warmth, plus ambience, which a soundboard lacks. Best is a good matrix where you have two sources (soundboard & aud) merged. It's all in preference but I would take a good audience recording over a good soundboard. There are a few exceptions of course.
  7. Next year will be Up with People ver2.0 featuring J-Lo and a Mariachi band. If they truly wanted a SMOKING halftime show, they need to book Gogol Bordello.
  8. To each their own, however I thought the band played better, and tighter as a whole in Montreal. The engine room (Page, Jones, Bonzo) were giving it their all and then some. Plant is the only weak link in this show but he sounds 1000x better in Montreal than he did in NY a few night's later. Sorry, but I can hardly listen to the 12th as Plant is simply horrific the whole show. At least in Montreal his performance, thought not great (even for 75'), is still passable. Just my opinion.
  9. Finally some decent music. My critique (for what its worth...you decide): Shakira's set started strong, peaking with the Kashmir snippet. I thought for a moment Shakira was going for a truly monumental and different performance. After Kashmir she went into a middle eastern theme for about 30 seconds (still going strong, good job Shakira), then, WTF??? She segues into a greatest hits medley that was both rushed and bland. BONUS POINTS: Shakira actually sang her set, it was not a taped vocal. Then comes J-Lo. She did not sing her set, she mimed to a pre-recorded track and emphasized her dancing instead (she did have a live mic though so she could do shout outs occasionally but overall, her set was rather lame. Final assessment - I give it two out of five footballs, one of which was deflated.
  10. ^ What a monster of a show, even Robert is not too bad for 75' but Jimmy, Jones, & Bonzo are just in the ZONE.
  11. At least he was not a chicken fucker:
  12. Strange because I have it on my version which I purchased within the first day of original release.
  13. Grooming Gangs? Give me a break, it was one group of loons. They were busted and convicted so...no story. By that metric every white guy should be judged by the actions of the Aryan Nations. This conspiracy theory brought to you by the same dimwits which gave us Pizza-Gate.
  14. Maybe Plant was just really into Carey Grant???
  15. To each their own but I like ITTOD quite a bit.
  16. Terry better have a blow torch on him if he wants to jump off the ESB, that's one big cage on the observation deck. At this point, anything is possible.
  17. I really don't know what to believe as most musicians are vain twats in general. I sure hope this is not some Eagles type money-grab by the rest of the band. After all a four way split is better than a five-way split...except for the fifth person that is. If this is about money, shame on them.
  18. Jonsey was likely turning up the PA on his bass to compensate for two massive kick drums.
  19. why do you keep coming off in such a doubting way? Several people have answered your question, Plurbius in great detail but instead you doubt and think people are "jerking you chain." There are quite a few musicians on this forum, me included, with very detailed history of the band and its music. How about you accept the answer to your question for what it is, the truth. No one is trying to fool you, only answering your question honestly. I cannot speak about other forums, maybe you had a bad experience, but around here you ask a question and you will get an honest, sincere answer.
  20. Ya know, one of the reasons may be Zep grew so much and so quickly that, unlike Rush, by the time they got around to documenting and filming, it had to be some major production. Zep should have had a roadie filming with a handheld every few shows both for posterity and to help them see visually how their live presentation worked. Unfortunately, Grant & Page were so paranoid about stuff getting out unofficially, they locked this ship down so tight, we have little compared to Rush and other bands as a result.
  21. Actually he did tell you what it was when he said your brother is correct.
  22. I have to agree with this. When the debut album came out in March 74', every radio station was playing Working Man and almost everyone thought it was a new Zeppelin tune. When Zep came back to the states in January 75' I bet more than a few local groupies and roadies mentioned this to the band. For Zep not to be aware of a band who both sounded and borrowed heavily from Zep is rather hard to believe. Of course Peart was not on the debut album but Rutsey was no slouch behind the drum kit, the man was also a fantastic drummer. The fact is, Jason was much more into motocross as a kid vs. drumming as Jason really did not get into drumming seriously until after his father died. I doubt Bonzo, like you said, talked much shop with Jason.
  23. Mickey has become a caricature at this point. When he survived...impossibly at that, the bus explosion, the show had not only jumped the shark, but had inappropriate relations with said shark as well. That was a massive explosion, he would have had to of jumped out of the bus at least a 1/4 mile before he even saw the tanker truck yet they show Mickey, still in the bus, when the tanker truck was mere feet and seconds away from impact. Either that or they are pulling a Battlestar Galactica in which case that is not Mickey but Mickey's ghost or, whatever. Such a shame too because the show has an amazing cast and great acting, but the plots and story lines are just too outrageous at this point.
  24. I hear ya, just watching it now out of habit. It was a great show for the first two seasons and then became redundant, and is now just silly.
