~tangerine~
Looks like Giant Stadium, but i'm disappointed they won't be in South Philly... maybe that will change. In the round is the absolute best imo... always loved YES when they played in the round. The views are great so you don't feel like you are left out (although no matter where you sit at a U2 show you never feel that way). Can't wait, either!!! http://uk.reuters.com/article/entertainmen...E5285BA20090309 U2 announces 2009-10 world tour Mon Mar 9, 2009 5:31pm GMT Email | Print | Share| Single Page[-] Text [+] LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - Irish super group U2 officially announced its 2009-2010 world tour on Monday, kicking off in Barcelona on June 30 and playing its first North American date on September 12 in Chicago. The 90-100 date tour, in support of the band's "No Line on the Horizon" album, is the band's first stadium outing since their Vertigo tour in 2005-2006. The album soared straight to top of the British album chart on Sunday, becoming the fastest selling album of the year so far, the Official Charts Company said. The U2 360 Tour, announced on the band's Web site, will visit 14 cities in Europe before hitting North America. There will be a number of different supporting acts including Glasvegas, Black Eyed Peas and Snow Patrol. U2 said they would play in the round, using a new 360 degree design that would have the band surrounded by the audience and give everyone an unobstructed view. Most of the details of the 360 Tour were reported last Friday by music trade publication Billboard, which said the tour was expected to be one of the highest-grossing ever. ~tangerine~
Just realized that they are at the UVa football stadium and not the JPJ arena; and this is their only Virginia show! Are you far from DC? I don't know the stadium, but my sister says it's in Landover (she could be wrong). We will probably go to NY (under 2 hr drive) but if we go to DC we can stay with my sister's ex. in-laws (since it will be a 3 hr or more drive). This is a show not to be missed for U2 fans! How far is Charlottesville from DC?
Footsteps of Dawn
Welp, don't have to worry about whether I should spend the money or not - they aren't coming here! I knew I should've gone in '06...

This will be huge; IIRC, this will be only the 3rd concert ever held at Scott Stadium (Stones in '05; DMB/Neil Young in '01).

~tangerine~
Me thinks there will be a Philly date added somewhere between... You would expect it since U2 never pass Philly by... i was thinking they will do another tour (of indoor stadiums) after this one... no matter, if a Philly date isn't announced when tix go on sale for Giant Stadium, that's where i'm going (and i would love to see them a second time anyway)
bigstickbonzo
I'm not the U2 zealot out of the bunch so I'll take my buddies word for it. He says indoors would be 1,000 times better of course. I dunno about driving up to the new stadium.. I prefer Tweeter... But I think I'm going if they do Citizens Bank or the Linc.

I saw Bruce there in 2002 and he sounded great. But i prefer the sound quality of indoor stadiums if i have to pick. Tweeter Center is also outdoors (i'm sure you know this). I have seen U2 live six times, three were outdoors, three were indoors. They sound fantastic either way, and their shows are so spectacular you don't even think about it. I hope you get the chance to see them!
ninelives
I would assume they'll add a lot more dates (indoor most likely) as they tend to do really lengthy tours
Aquamarine
I was temporarily enthusiastic, but if they're all outdoor stadium gigs, where you basically watch the band on the big screens or through binoculars, I think I can live with the fact that it'll be more gigs I can't get to. You didn't read the article i posted. The seating is going to be "in the round", giving meaning to the title 360 (degrees) lol. I saw YES play in the round at least 5 or 6 times in the late 70's early 80's and it's fantastic. Even the worst seats are half decent, and the better seats are great! Don't miss this tour if you are a fan! As i mentioned earlier, half of the U2 shows i have seen were at outdoor stadiums, and i loved every one. I usually had seats in the first level (although one show i was on the floor) and i always had a fantastic time. The crowd, the performance (mostly Bono's efforts) and the special effects all make a U2 concert unforgettable!

Well Aqua, I think all those people at the back of the O2 who relied on the screens or binoculars were very glad they were still there. Nothing beats being AT a gig, especially a live performance from a band so well-known for being experts at making their audience feel connected and part of something special. Very true - the connection the audience has with the band and really with each other is pretty amazing. I've seen them up close and far away in outdoor stadiums and both experiences were equally fantastic.
