Hotplant
Riders On The Storm~Doors. I was just listening to that album today and noted that. Quicksilver Messenger Service. Moody Blues Of course Pink Floyd. Midnight Mile by Stones. Native American flute music. So calming. Just a few.

Xtazy
Riders On The Storm~Doors. I was just listening to that album today and noted that. Yeah, that's a nice song, I've been listening to it lately too. I usually like to play it late at night when I'm about to go to sleep. ninelives
Steve Hillage, Rainbow dome musick Tangerine Dream, Zeit Huun Huur Tu and Angelite, Fly fly my sadness Ooh yeah - that's a great Steve Hillage album. Also love Tangerine Dream - I've got a bunch of their cds. Trip-Hop like Massive Attack, Tricky and Portishead put me in a trance-like state. These day's, a little electro jazz fusion does it for me. Two bands that come to mind are Zero 7 and St Germain Zero 7 are a great band. I listen to them a lot.
ZPN
Sometimes Dead Can Dance/Brendan Perry does it for me too.

tom kid
White Summer/Black Mountainside does this to me also. It is especially awesome on the versions from '77 when the band segues from Black Mountainside right into Kashmir. It's pure bliss!
Swede
If I am near a dance floor and this comes up, you bet I will dance as in trance: Ain't nothing like a good 60's garage rocker (uh, well a nice 50's or 60's r'n'b stomper is fine too!). reswati
Zero 7 are a great band. I listen to them a lot. Zero 7 are Steve Hillage and Miquette Giraudy, more or less the modern day version of what they did together in the seventies.
Zepulon
Zero 7 are a great band. I listen to them a lot. They are great - my favorite album of theirs is "Simple Things." The band Air has a similar sound, and they're great as well.
Broken Levee
No other band does it for me like Tool. If you have a few minutes to zone out, I would suggest this video. Pay attention to lyrics, feel the rhythm of the music, and wear headphones for the full effect. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RiV_ue-PbL4

Darn, I meant System 7 are Steve etc... (and Zero 7 is indeed great musict to chill to)

Swede
I suppose a really good voice and a haunting melody OR a beat with a real good guitar hook. A good voice is always important, if I don't like the voice the song will probably be ruined for me..
Virginia
A few more I like that all have a similar vibe/beat, but may be considered a bit more "pedestrian" here: In the Air Tonight Secret (Maroon 5) Til Summer Comes Around (Keith Urban) Edited September 17, 2009 by Virginia
