Jack Torrance Posted November 14, 2011 Posted November 14, 2011 Since meeting people on facebook and pages on here for ZEPP fans and now here i can not help but notice the amount of people who say zep when it is quite obvious that it is Zepp...im not giving free english grammar lessons here its just an observation....so the question is to Zep or not to Zepp which are you............. hecube Posted November 14, 2011 Posted November 14, 2011 I always found "Zepp" to be awkward looking, just from a design point of view. I much prefer "Zep" Quote

Yep it's Zep! They both get red lined by spell check in spite of your grammatically correct advice. Quote
Jahfin Posted November 14, 2011 Posted November 14, 2011 Yep it's Zep! They both get red lined by spell check in spite of your grammatically correct advice. I wouldn't rely on spelchek too much as I never realized there was a "grammatically correct" way to abbreviate Led Zeppelin. Quote

Ady Posted November 14, 2011 Posted November 14, 2011 I've always shortened it to "Zep". There are also tribute bands called Whole Lotta Led, Letz Zep, Led Zepland & Led Zepagain. Quote

Stargroves Tangie Posted November 15, 2011 Posted November 15, 2011 Always thought it was "Zep" myself based on the cover of the Ritchie Yorke biography I have. Quote
Reggie29 Posted November 15, 2011 Posted November 15, 2011 It was Zep in '69 and it's still Zep now. Quote
missytootsweet Posted November 15, 2011 Posted November 15, 2011 It was a happy and proud moment when I finally became an official Zep Head on this board (not a Zepp Head.) ....... missy Quote
Strider Posted November 19, 2011 Posted November 19, 2011 (edited) As The Most Interesting Man in the World would say: "I don't always abbreviate Led Zeppelin...but when I do, I prefer Zep." It was Zep back in the day, never Zepp...and it's always been that way since. I think a major reason people chose Zep over Zepp is the symmetry. Led is three letters, and so Zep fits with Led in a graphic design sense. Edited November 19, 2011 by Strider Quote
zepps_apprentice Posted November 22, 2011 Posted November 22, 2011 I think this would be a good topic for me... I use Zep for context. But I used Zepp for the username cause it looked better to me. Quote
october51970 Posted November 28, 2011 Posted November 28, 2011 i think that any shortening of the name "Led Zeppelin" is disrespectful to their memory. especially now with classic rock radio dj's saying Zep or Zeppelin. Led Zeppelin was their name for 12 years. let's not change it now. Quote

Led Zeppelin was their name for 12 years. let's not change it now. I don't think anyone is suggesting an official name change. I also see no harm in referring to them as "Zep", or "Led Zep". Do you find people referring to the Rolling Stones as "the Stones" disrespectful to their memory as well? Quote

october51970 Posted November 29, 2011 Posted November 29, 2011 okay "stairway" apparently "disrespectful" is conceptually abstract to you. i apologize for offering my opinion in an opinion forum. i'll be careful to avoid offending you in any future responses to a question which seeks an opinion. Do you find people referring to the Rolling Stones as "the Stones" disrespectful to their memory as well? i understand. i've just always known & referred to them as Led Zeppelin. perhaps "disrespectful" was a bit much. naturally, i do prefer "The Rolling Stones" to the simplified "the Stones".
