Disco Duck
...who respects Yoko Ono? The Beatles were already close to breaking point when Brian Epstein died in 1967, so Yoko wasn't the only cause. She was John's soul mate. Who else agrees? Yes and no. I respect her feminism, her pursuit of her own artistic interests, and her philanthropy. However, I don't think she is a good musician or singer. IMO, her pursuit of a musical career causes people to overlook or discount her conceptual art and film making projects. I also don't like the way she treated Julian Lennon, his mother Cynthia, and John's half sister and her family after he died.

The Beatles were already close to breaking point when Brian Epstein died in 1967, so Yoko wasn't the only cause. She was John's soul mate. Who else agrees? No, you are not the only one. I've defended Yoko many times in the past...on this forum and elsewhere. It's fairly obvious by now that she had a musical influence on people such as Patti Smith, Lydia Lunch, Lux Interior, Diamanda Galas, Kate Bush, PJ Harvey, Kathleen Hanna, Courtney Love, Björk, and countless others. Not to mention her conceptial art and films, which would influence Karen Finley and the Women's Guerilla art movement and beyond. Those who know know the impact Yoko has had, Catharine...the rest don't matter. Edited July 29, 2013 by Strider
Texas Melanie
This is just my opinion but Yoko Ono, and abstract art in general, does nothing for me. Maybe I am on a lower intellectual plane than others but when I look at her artwork, I see very little, I feel very little and frankly, my kids pre-K artwork had more artistic merit than anything that I have seen from Yoko Ono. For me art is like porn, it is hard to define but you know it when you see it and with her, all I see is a blank canvas never to be filled with anything important or beautiful. And I also have a low tolerance for pretension and bullshit. And again that is my opinion as we are all entitled to one.
Hotplant
Without Yoko there would have been no Mozart, no Beethoven, no Rembrandt or Van Gogh, neither would there have been no Teletubbies..............nothing at all. I love her immensely both physically (she is by far the most attractive human being ever, just thinking of her makes me horny) as well as a source of inspiration. I even brush my teeth to her music. Thanks for starting this thread, I now finally know that I am not alone. Had to once again sign in for a post. This time for the fabulous Res. You crack me up. I tend to agree. She was a junkie who wiggled her way into Johns best final album. I would RUN to the turntable to get that screeching banshee off ASAP! *shudders* And sure she's given money to causes-----JOHNS, pawning off his belongs as needed. Just my opinion --of course. Bong-Man
The nicest compliment I can give her is that she's one hell of an opportunist. Artistically she discovered Andy Warhol and decided she could do that too.....so she did (google "Fly on a Tit"). Then she decided she could sing, so she did....even though she can't. She found a rock star with mommy issues, and exploited and controlled him with precision, even up to picking out who he could sleep with when they were separated. I guess when you refer to your wife as "Momma", any manipulation is possible.
Plantpothead
Allegedy during a Beatles get together she was referred to as That Jap C*nt.
Catherine Warr
Apparently one of the biggest arguments involving her was because she stole George's cookie.

Plantpothead
The other three also did not appreciate John bringing her to recording sessions, as they preferred just themselves and the studio personell, of course after that Paul started bringing his children, and George & Ringo got pissed off. Disco Duck
Love her or hate her but one thing you can't deny: Yoko Ono has fared better than most rock wives. Not only did John open doors for her in the music industry, he also left her the bulk of his estate.

weslgarlic
surely a blue print for this Before Joe Lynn Turner replaced Ian Gillan around 1991 in Deep Purple , I suggested Yoko Ono .... Imagine ( sorry) had the Beatles carried on Fleetwood Mac style and involved the women in the group , they could have let George and ringo go , pushed yoko and linda foward on vocals and been a rival to ABBA

GERKZ
I think she is a evil greedy woman, the fact that she made lennon's other son pay a serious amount of money for a bunch of letters John wrote to him is disgusting. I don't know how anybody can like her, musically she is terrible and watching videos with her and John playing with other musicians it's really embarrassing for John. What I don't understand is why John Lennon didn't provide for Julian in his will. As far as I know, he never denied that he was Julian's father. Texas Melanie
Being a multi-millionaire Lennon had to have a will because too much money was on the line. Just like it is smart to have a prenup; you never know when you will need to protect your assets and loved ones. Regarding Julian Lennon, he and his father grew close at the end of John's life. I truly believe he was trying to make up for lost time and realized the mistakes he made in life, including coming to terms with Beatlemania. Unfortunately it was too late for John and Julian's relationship. Who would ever thought he would be killed at such a young age.
Disco Duck
I've given this topic some more thought during the past few days. IMO, John Lennon treated his first wife, Cynthia, and their son, Julian, badly. He was physically and emotionally abusive to Cynthia during their courtship and marriage. He slept with Yoko Ono in in the house he shared with Cynthia while she was out of town. He played hardball and forced Cynthia to accept a very stingy divorce settlement. He left Julian a measly $50,000 in his will. Worse of all, he had limited contact with Julian after he moved to the U.S. in 1971. He could have afforded to visit his son or have his son visit him more often. He CHOSE not to. I couldn't respect a man who treated his child in such a shabby manner. Yoko Ono apparently didn't have a problem with it. Her callousness towards Julian Lennon has always disturbed me. I wonder if snobbery plays a role in Yoko's attitude towards him? She is from an elite Japanese family, was a well-educated and sophisticated mature woman when she met John Lennon. I wonder if she considers Julian and his mother social inferiors who don't merit her consideration?
