She was John's soul mate. Who else agrees? Yes and no. I respect her feminism, her pursuit of her own artistic interests, and her philanthropy. However, I don't think she is a good musician or singer. IMO, her pursuit of a musical career causes people to overlook or discount her conceptual art and film making projects. She was John's soul mate. Who else agrees? No, you are not the only one. I've defended Yoko many times in the past...on this forum and elsewhere. It's fairly obvious by now that she had a musical influence on people such as Patti Smith, Lydia Lunch, Lux Interior, Diamanda Galas, Kate Bush, PJ Harvey, Kathleen Hanna, Courtney Love, Björk, and countless others. Not to mention her conceptial art and films, which would influence Karen Finley and the Women's Guerilla art movement and beyond. Maybe I am on a lower intellectual plane than others but when I look at her artwork, I see very little, I feel very little and frankly, my kids pre-K artwork had more artistic merit than anything that I have seen from Yoko Ono. For me art is like porn, it is hard to define but you know it when you see it and with her, all I see is a blank canvas never to be filled with anything important or beautiful. I love her immensely both physically (she is by far the most attractive human being ever, just thinking of her makes me horny) as well as a source of inspiration. I even brush my teeth to her music. Thanks for starting this thread, I now finally know that I am not alone. Had to once again sign in for a post. This time for the fabulous Res. You crack me up. I tend to agree. She was a junkie who wiggled her way into Johns best final album. I would RUN to the turntable to get that screeching banshee off ASAP! *shudders* And sure she's given money to causes-----JOHNS, pawning off his belongs as needed. Just my opinion --of course. Artistically she discovered Andy Warhol and decided she could do that too.....so she did (google "Fly on a Tit"). Then she decided she could sing, so she did....even though she can't. She found a rock star with mommy issues, and exploited and controlled him with precision, even up to picking out who he could sleep with when they were separated. Just like it is smart to have a prenup; you never know when you will need to protect your assets and loved ones. Regarding Julian Lennon, he and his father grew close at the end of John's life. I truly believe he was trying to make up for lost time and realized the mistakes he made in life, including coming to terms with Beatlemania. IMO, John Lennon treated his first wife, Cynthia, and their son, Julian, badly. He was physically and emotionally abusive to Cynthia during their courtship and marriage. He slept with Yoko Ono in in the house he shared with Cynthia while she was out of town. He played hardball and forced Cynthia to accept a very stingy divorce settlement. He left Julian a measly $50,000 in his will. Worse of all, he had limited contact with Julian after he moved to the U.S. in 1971. He could have afforded to visit his son or have his son visit him more often. He CHOSE not to. I couldn't respect a man who treated his child in such a shabby manner. Yoko Ono apparently didn't have a problem with it. Her callousness towards Julian Lennon has always disturbed me. I wonder if snobbery plays a role in Yoko's attitude towards him? She is from an elite Japanese family, was a well-educated and sophisticated mature woman when she met John Lennon.
