I never heard there were tensions for the photo shoot. If there were, my guesses are: --Bonzo mad as he did not know everyone else was going to show up as a fashionista. --Percy had to wear a tie (I don't think I've ever seen him wear one before or since). --Funny thing about Jimmy & His Hair, riding in a convertible to the shoot. What was it that Grant used to call him behind his back when Pagey used to primp his hair in the mirror?? --Jonesy was worried the strippers might be from New Orleans and/or were transvestites. I think the nickname Page earned for primping his hair was 'Old Girl'. I'll have to look up where I read that but I recall reading an anecdote about Page fuming at his driver because the convertible messed up his hair. Miss Pamela recounted in her book that Page used Pantene products at the time she was with him, and apparently she told Stephen Davis that he used to borrow her hair curler to make curls that hung "just like that." It probably is a bit too racy for this board, but the ladies are sure to love it. Unaware of any specific anecdote aside from Jimmy's hair getting mussed up on the way down in Richard Cole's roadster. All were clearly amused, whatever the reason for dropping his pants. That pic's been on here a few times--but that was taken when they were wearing the other set of clothes, for the alternate session. I quote Dave Lewis on Jimmy's hair (basically just in support of what's been said here): "Jimmy had problems with his hair, having been driven by Richard Cole in his open top Austin Healy." He also says "Allegedly Jimmy could be seen with his flies undone which had to be retouched and Bonzo requested a few inches off his paunch. The rather dull skyline was then replaced by a backdrop from a Texas location." I remember several stories about Jimmy arriving moaning about his hair! We had maybe 30 rooms in the hotel and were paying these exorbitant prices. The second night I was there, I went to the bar dressed fairly smart- proper trousers, not jeans, and a nice leather jacket - and I was told, "Sir, you can't come in here without a jacket." I said, "I'm wearing a jacket." So Robert just pushed the guy aside and walked through. I wasn't going to do that, I was going to stand and argue with the guy. He said, "It's not a proper jacket." Keyboardist Danny Peyronel recalls one memorable late night drinking session in Blake’s Hotel in Chelsea suggesting that cracks were appearing in Zeppelin’s internal relations as well as their own. “John Bonham was at the bar drinking quadruple brandies when singer Gary Holton went up to him and said something out of earshot,” he says. “Bonham just turned and whacked Gary in the stomach. When he got his breath back, Gary went up and started, ‘Listen, man, I don’t know what I said…’, and Bonham tries to belt him again. This time Gary was too fast, ran up the stairs into the street with Bonham and his roadies chasing after him and shouting, ‘You bastard, come back here’… it was a scene from hell. “They had to put Valiums in Bonham’s brandy to calm him down, it was embarrassing,” he says. “Robert Plant, Ronnie [Thomas] and I were chatting afterwards and Plant was saying, ‘I’ve had five years of this lunacy’, it’s unbearable’. SteveAJones Posted May 22, 2009 Author Share Posted May 22, 2009 This from mastronaut: I had the honor of meeting Robert Plant on the Shaken and Stirred Tour at of all places Circle K (a convience store) in Sunrise, Florida. He was staying at the hotel up the street, walked in and asked if we sold Dom Perrion! I laughed and said no but I'm sure we have some Mad Dog 20/20..I didn't realize it was him at first, but he had a big dude with him who looked like Peter Grant. Robert was very polite and cool to me and even signed an autograph that said "Shake a hand". I was a singer in a band at the time and he was the one who got me into singing in the first place. A dude who used to come in a lot that worked at the hotel stopped in and saw Robert and asked me if it was really him. I nodded yes, and Robert came up to pay for his items (I was so nervous I forgot what he bought). He thanked me by name and the hotel dude asked Robert if he knew me. He said yeah, then I said "Oh yeah we go back a long way". That guy's face was priceless! Robert said goodnight and that was that. He is and always has been a class act. What is the story behind "Black Zeppelin"? I've read a few accounts of at least some of the members of both Black Sabbath and Led Zeppelin having an informal jam together in 1970. I've also read that there was a common friendship among John Bonham and Bill Ward from Black Sabbath. Recently I've read an interview with Ritchie Blackmore where he said that the tapes from those jams were in his attic at home and even goes on to mention which 2 or 3 songs were played together. Bill attended one of Bonham's gigs at The Wharf in Worcestershire in 1965, and recalls Bonham "...had a pint of bitter at his feet throughout…" I sourced a BRMB Radio tribute that aired in the Midlands. Ozzy is among many local musicians who share ancedotes and memories of socializing with Bonham thru the years. Black Sabbath was also a short-notice support act for Led Zeppelin in Syracuse & Rochester NY (9/10-11/71). Anyway, on June 26, 1972 Led Zeppelin allegedly dropped in on Black Sabbath to check on the progress of their fourth album & jammed on their new song, 'Supernaut' (unrecorded). It's certainly plausible they also had a jam in 1970, but the details elude me at the moment. I will see what I can find out, but this from a Black Sabbath FAQ. The "Holy Grail" of Black Sabbath material is the "Black Zeppelin" jam, a supposed recording of members of Led Zeppelin and Black Sabbath playing together. This recording can't be found in trading circles, if it even exists at all. According to Bill Ward if there are any of these in existence, Spock Wall would have them. The three from Japan certainly appear to be video captures. It is known they were carrying movie recorders with them as they toured Japan. If memory serves correct this fact is conclusive in photographs of them visiting the Hiroshima Peace Park. I had not heard the info about the 72 jam. However, I do recall 'Supernaut' being mentioned in reference to the 1970 jam. Hmmm. The plot thickens. And I defintely remember reading that Ritchie Blackmore interview where he so casually says the recordings from the jam with Zeppelin is in his attic.
