Electrophile
I'd like to see Tampa win. They lost 97 games last season, now they're in the World Series. It would be a great story.

Reggie29
Why if it is called the "World" series, does only the US participate?
bigstickbonzo
Why if it is called the "World" series, does only the US participate? Rich white men in the early 20th Century out to show the rest of the world their new prized sport. But in all fairness, there are more multi-country minorities in professional baseball now than ever. L 7
Being the long suffering Cub`s fan, then Red Sox fan, I can only hope for a good series, Waiting for the NBA season. Go Spurs Go!
ebk
I can't forgive the Devil Rays for leaving my team in last place this year... so I guess I have to pull for the Phils!

jimmie ray
I want to root for the Rays, but wonder if they'll do like the Marlins did after success? Will they build a local fanbase and keep players without overpaying them after they win?
danelectro59
Why if it is called the "World" series, does only the US participate? That was true until 1992, then Toronto won. Edited October 23, 2008 by danelectro59
Zepp-4-Life
That was true until 1992, then Toronto won. The year we Torontonians stole a slice from the American Pie . Back to back 92 / 93 . Great times and memories. I still have my programs and ticket stubbs. 1 million delerious fans take to the streets and party till sunrise . Never seen anyting like it since. I'll take Phillies in 5. Reggie29
That was true until 1992, then Toronto won. Okay, but it's still only limited to North America. Apparently baseball is big in Japan, so I'm surprised you blokes don't have a triangular competition happening.
pinky
In my young life I never that the World Series would be Tampa Bay, and Phillies. I also never thought my Red Sox would have won a World Series but they did it twice in three years. I'm gonna say Tampa sweeps the rest of the series although I'm pulling for the Phillies. Tickets are selling at less than face value as EVERYONE besides, Tampa and Philly fans wanted, it to be the Boston Red Sox vs. the Los Angeles Dodgers. 14.6 million views were the result of both losses which was a drop of last years game. Electrophile
MLB consists of the teams in the United States and then the Toronto Blue Jays. That's it. The World Series is for MLB, not for everyone else. That's what the Olympics are for. Go Tampa.

wanna be drummer
Agreed, and I strongly support still calling it that as of this day. But, the question of why it's called that when other countries love baseball too is a valid point. I just disagree with it.
zepyep
Hi all, Agreed, and I strongly support still calling it that as of this day. But, the question of why it's called that when other countries love baseball too is a valid point. I just disagree with it. Most other countries did not play baseball in any fashion until the 40's.No leagues, national organizations,Plus it sounded cool ,and we did have players from many other nations. Go Phillies!
