  1. Cheers for the recommendation, CP! I bet my last dollar that you are referring to their show at Hammersmith Odeon, London on the 24th of December, 1975? Wonderful show! Perfect example depicting early live Queen!! One of my favourites! I even prefer it to their famous gigs in Montreal and Wembley! Back on topic: I am currently listening to a show by one of my favourite modern bands : "Blues Pills"
  2. At the moment, the entire Queen : Live Killers album, a compilation of songs from concerts during their Jazz tour, that took place between January and March, 1979.
  3. ^^^You're very welcome, Julie! Oh my gosh! The Proteas are putting up a fight at the moment and my heart was in my mouth when star Kiwi batsmen like McCullum, Guptill and Williamson got out after getting off to great starts! But nevertheless, I am still hopeful of an Aus vs. NZ final!
  4. ^^^Continuing from my previous post. Julie, here is part 1 and 2 of the article "Through Don Bradman's Eyes" I do hope that you enjoy reading this as much as I did!
  5. Yes, it is Julie! In fact, thanks to the world cup thread and your account of meeting Mr. Morris, I started digging up my dad's collection of cricket books amassed through the decades and the biography of Sir Don Bradman by Michael Page caught my interest! Mr. Morris has been mentioned several times in this book, for his role in various test matches, especially in that fourth test against England at Headingley, where he and the Don put on a wonderful partnership to secure a victory for Australia, chasing down a total of 404 and having just 345 minutes to do it! Unbelievable! Sadly, there are no photos in the book, of the Don and Mr. Morris batting together! But, there is one mention of Mr. Morris which I really want you to read, Julie! It is in an article called "Through Don Bradman's Eyes". It is pretty much a snippet of a book written by the Don himself called "Farewell to Cricket", published in 1950, wherein the Don gives his own impressions of various English and Australian cricketers he played with or against and he terms Mr. Morris and another famous opening batsman Bill Ponsford, as "the finest of the period". I found that very heart warming to read! Ooh, I also found a lovely team photo of the "Invincibles" right after winning the 1948 Ashes series! Do have a look! It is from another one of my dad's books called "The Hamlyn A to Z of Cricket Records" by Peter Wynne-Thomas For some strange reason, I am not able to attach any of the files to my post! Damn! Anyway, Julie, brace yourself for some rather large images in my post! Sorry about that! The first is that team photo of "The Invincibles" This is the 1st photo in the page and honestly, it is really amazing to see these legends in their prime after winning the 1948 Ashes!! Mr. Morris is second from the left at the back, and the Don is third from the left in front! Edited to add: Julie, the article "Through Don Bradman's Eyes" is up next in my next post.
  6. The biography of a cricket legend:
  7. I thought of this thread immediately after I started binge watching episodes of the following show: This comedy show is so damn politically incorrect that it is most certainly not for the faint-hearted! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8NeqZOce1fE https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4SSOTm0hEDQ https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ppt-Bnhn5Ow https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0gqS3QEoF0U
  8. ^^^^ A very touching moment for me, was when Robert paid a tribute to Jimi Hendrix by terming his death as "a great loss that came about to the whole of the music world". I also liked the fact that he urged the audience to have a good time rather than talk about it, since that was what Jimi would have preferred!! A tear jerking moment for me!
  9. One More For The Road - Madison Square Garden, Evening Show, September 19th, 1970 "If you don't sit down on the floor, nobody's gonna be able to see behind!" "Sit down! Sit down! Do what I say! Gonna love you people each and every eveeeeeery day!!" EPIC vocal improvisation!!! Thanks, Strider! Edited to add: Cannot believe that this show is going to turn 45, this year in September!
  10. In a rather pensive mood today, thinking about all the unnecessary violence and bloodshed plaguing our world:
  11. I am feeling so much better now, Walter! I took some pain killers that contained Ibuprofen and that certainly did the trick! Sorry to hear about your left ear! Have you tried a ear decongestant? It worked for me when my right ear got blocked due to a sinus infection (you can also try Vicks vaporub)...perhaps this article will be a bit of help: http://www.wikihow.com/Relieve-Ear-Congestion Good luck! Do hope you get better soon!
  12. Today, while I was revisiting old gospel blues classics by the legendary Blind Willie Johnson, I thought of you, Andy and hence, I would first, like to dedicate this wonderful gospel blues ballad to your uncle: And dedicate another wonderful gospel blues ballad to you Andy, during this difficult time: Blind Willie Johnson's music has always helped me get through tough times and I truly hope that these ballads can provide some comfort to you during this difficult time! I am truly sorry for your loss! I heartily echo the sentiments of everyone here! Cheers to you! Stay strong!
  13. Horrid stomach cramps and blatant insomnia!
  14. I have always considered Jimmy Page's guitar playing to be an art form. Given that this thread is a discussion of his 'sloppiness' as a guitarist, the following quotes by famous Victorian Art critique John Ruskin, came to mind: "All great art is the work of the whole living creature, body and soul and chiefly of the soul" -- The Stones of Venice I (1851) "The picture which has the nobler and more numerous ideas, however awkwardly expressed, is a greater and better picture than that which has the less noble and less numerous ideas, however beautifully expressed" -- Modern Painters I (1843) "Men were not intended to work with the accuracy of tools, to be precise and perfect in all their actions" -- The Stones of Venice II (1853)
  15. A practice cricket match - India vs. Australia - a great way to spend a Sunday!
  16. Three cheers for Mrs. Walter! Honestly, she seems to be such an inspirational lady! My kindest and best regards and wishes to her, you and your little son, Walter!
  17. Awwww...that looks like such a cute gift! Like the old saying goes "Nice Things for Awesome People!" Your fab Led Zep collection is definitely in good hands!
  18. Belated Happy Birthday Kate (Fool In The Rain 60)! Hope you had a lovely one! Do hope you can visit the forums again! Miss you loads! ♥
  19. Just feel like punching a certain someone in the nuts, today! This song never fails to get me pumping! HA!!
  20. Now, if only we could find a way to get rid of this silly bitch by packing her off to the moon permanently, we earthlings will most certainly be a happy lot!
