  1. ^^Now that you mentioned it, I gave the YT vid you posted another look and I noticed that too! Also for a moment, my eyes played the meanest trick on me, by actually getting me to believe that the dude was wearing only a hat and tie! It is a bit easy to miss the fact that the man has a trench coat on! I honestly thought "Hmmm...gangster or cabaret dancer?" I wish they would have used a gangster like this guy: Or even this guy: With the whole Al Capone vibe!
  2. ^^^Yep! That's right! Oh my gosh! You just posted a YT vid of a video game that I now remember playing with my cousin! Thank you so much! I had totally forgotten about this game till now! We used to play to see who could get the least number of misses! He was a way better shooter than I was! Glad you managed to find and buy this game! Always awesome to have memories from your childhood! I used to watch quite a few episodes of this show, growing up:
  3. Me too! Sometimes, those damn ducks used to be so freakin' elusive! Clay Shooting was definitely easier than duck shooting! Look what I found! Couldn't help but giggle when I watched this. Oh, the memories! I love 'Pawn Stars' Rick is cool (I do love the way he laughs! I always think of him as the 'Human Mutley' ) but my favs are 'The Old Man' and Austin 'Chumlee' Russell
  4. Born the late 1980's and grew up in the 1990's. Played extensively with Polly Pocket Playhouses like this one: Sadly, my beloved polly pocket playhouse was stolen and now I am looking to replace it! I also used to play (a lot) with video games like this: I swear that the hunting dog in the video game sounded A LOT like Mutley!
  5. Even though it's been a terribly busy day for me today (moving to a new flat can be so bloody exhausting!!) and the fact that internet access was virtually impossible, I nevertheless had to come on here, to pay my respects to the late great John Henry Bonham! I truly CANNOT believe it's been 34 years! 1980 was a pretty devastating year for music, IMHO! Just look at sweet little face!
  6. Many Many Happy Returns of the Day, Missy! Hope you're having a lovely day! I miss you so much! I know you had to scale down your internet activity, but it will be wonderful if you could come back here, just for a little while!
  7. Whoa! Now I am definitely on tenterhooks, eagerly awaiting the release of the deluxe version ITTOD!
  8. Oh gosh! Here I go again, missing birthdays! Anyway, here goes nothing! Belated Happy Birthday Kris! Hope it was wonderful!
  9. Going to my favourite Italian restaurant today for lunch, to celebrate 'moving day'.
  10. OH GOD! MY EYES! MY POOR EYES! Interesting thread you've got going here, mate! Here are a couple, for starters: I hate spiders! Good grief! Pardon me, while I ride the pig! Hooray for Photoshop!
  11. Having a hearty laugh, while listening to this (it starts off as an ordinary rock song BUT there is beautiful rap section, so watch out!!!)
  12. My condolences to you, DL! I am so very sorry for your loss! I love my mom immensely (I almost lost her, when I was 14 years old). I can only imagine the kind of grief that you are experiencing, right now. To echo the advice and sentiments of others here, time is a healer and the more you think about all the happy times you shared with her and how much you loved her and how much of love she showered upon you, the better you'll feel!
  13. Hold on to your hats, ladies and gentlemen, for this is going to be a pretty long post! Basically, 2 people were responsible for bringing Led Zeppelin into my life : my dad and my dentist (yes! You read that right!). It all started when I was 12 years old. I was just your average pop loving, middle school kid. FYI, middle school is the equivalent of junior high. Anyway, the only bands I used to listen to, were "Queen", "No Doubt", "The Jimi Hendrix Experience", "The Bangles" and a few Garage Rock bands on and off, thanks to my mom's music collection. At the time, musically, my focus was on artists such as Britney Spears (peer pressure can be such a bitch! ), a pop group called "The Steps" (yikes!), "The Spice Girls" (don't judge me!) and some other groups, whose names I cannot remember! It was a Saturday morning and I had to go to my local dentist to get my first filling. Needless to say, I was terrified. My family had known the guy for a couple of years and he was (in some ways), a family friend. So anyway, after a tense wait of about an hour, I went in and I could have sworn that I was shaking with fright! As I sat down on the dentist chair, the guy asked me if I liked to listen to some music and I nodded my head, gratefully. I was willing to do just about anything to forget about 'the procedure'! It turned out that the guy had a mixed tape full of random songs. Yep! He used to play music for his younger patients just to calm them down, at times of extreme anxiety! As soon as he put the mixed tape into his stereo and pressed the play button, the first thing I hear is a really cool piano, keyboard and sax based instrumental. It was none other than "Glad" by "Traffic". It was foot tapping, to say the least and it certainly relaxed me! The next song was another superb sax and piano based tune, also by Traffic called "Freedom Rider". Then, the songs gradually started to become darker, edgier and louder! The next song on the list was "Paint It Black" by the Stones. I really enjoyed the song, especially the lyrics! Also, to my delight, I got to listen to Queen's "Don't Stop Me Now"! And then, IT CAME ON. "Hey, Hey, Mama, said the way you move, gonna make you sweat, gonna make you groove". My 12 year old ears could not believe WHAT they were listening to...the soaring and deadly guitar riffs, the sexy and sinful lyrics, the thundering drumming! Hot damn! For a 12 year old kid, this was all a bit too much to take in!! I WAS FLOORED!!! The next song was yet another Led Zeppelin song. The beautiful and blissful "Black Mountain Side". I enjoyed that too, but the song that I was most curious about, was "Black Dog". While my dentist continued with the procedure, with each passing minute, I was getting more and more desperate to find out which band composed, what I used to refer to (before I knew who Led Zeppelin were) as "The Hey Hey Mama Song"! I had to wait for almost 20 minutes (after "Black Dog" ended), before I could start talking again. And when I did, I just had to ask him (however painful it was for me!) for some details, at least! On hearing the name that I had given "Black Dog", the guy couldn't help but chuckle a bit and he then, revealed the name of the song and proceeded to tell me a bit about the band - where they were from, the genre, etc. He also told me another fact, which made my heart skip a beat. My dad too, was a fan! So, that meant only one thing! I could check out this amazing band's catalogue, to my heart's content, from the comfort of my own home!! I did check out some of the albums at the time (my dad had all of them in cassette form till around the end of 2000, when he switched to CD's), sometimes on CD and sometimes on cassette. Then sadly, I am not at all sure what the hell happened, but there was a Zeppelin lull period for 3 years of my life (from the age 13 to age 16). I just got so caught up in other bands (predominantly from the late 70's and 80's and some weird 'mainstream' bands) including Bon Jovi (UGH!), INXS and Metallica (Oh God! They scare the fuck out of me, now!), Linkin' Park, Creed and Red Hot Chili Peppers (every frickin' kid at my school, was raving about their new album at the time, "By The Way"). Queen was still among my favourites (I was (at the time) practically addicted to their live album "Live Killers" and I just couldn't get enough!)! I am also a big fan of INXS even today! Now, fast forward to November, 2003. I was in Year 11 at the time (equivalent to 11th grade). I came home absolutely exhausted from my Economics exam. The next exam wasn't for a couple of days, so I could at least relax for a couple of hours, before hitting the books again! So, anyway, I was in my dad's study, desperately looking for something to listen to (I was getting a bit tired of my own music collection, frankly!), when the following album covers caught my attention: Needless to say, I got back in touch with the mighty Led Zeppelin! From the thundering guitar riffs of "Good Times, Bad Times", all the way to the haunting and rockin' melody of "In the Evening", that was the best fuckin' 2 and a half hours of my life, musically! Oh boy! Was I mighty glad that these Best of Led Zeppelin compilations had been released! It certainly gave me a chance to revisit and be blown away by one of the greatest bands on earth! After that incident involving 2 and a half hours of mind blowing music, never again did I forget who Led Zeppelin were! Ever! ***Edited (at the very last minute) to correct some silly spelling mistakes and to reduce the number of emoticons in my post (in keeping with forum regulations)!
  14. You're very welcome, Strider! Perhaps, that slogan (in order to fit the context of this thread) should be revised to : A Tall Glass of Water for Mr. Charles J. White and A Tranquilizer for Miss Kiwi who is in awe of Mr. White's water consumption!
  15. Given the massive number of glasses of water being consumed by folks on this thread, I couldn't help but be reminded of this (from "Are You Being Served?") : Sorry folks for the slight derailment! Please excuse my attempt at some humour...it's a Friday night and well, I'm smashed to the bone! Carry on with your culinary adventures!
  16. Well, you're not the only one who watches a lot of cartoons! I binge watch Looney Tunes and Merrie Melodies cartoons regularly (both online and offline)! In fact, I've got 4 DVDs packed with Looney Tunes and Merrie Melodies shorts and the 5th one is on its away from an online store right now! In fact, lately, I am beginning to be known as 'the big kid' BTW, I'm a big fan of shows like "Family Guy", "South Park" and "American Dad"! Oh and while still on the subject of cartoons, I also love binge watching "Betty Boop" cartoons and of course, episodes of "The Road Runner Show", "The Whacky Races", "Dastardly and Muttley In Their Flying Machines", "The Yogi Bear Show" and plenty of Scooby Doo!
  17. Hi Virginia! I am really addicted to period dramas! Apart from "Downton Abbey" and "The Tudors", I also forgot to mention that I binge watch the fantastic "Upstairs Downstairs" (both the original classic 1971 series and the short-lived 2010 remake). My mom and myself love "The Tudors"! Yes, it is historically inaccurate, but so addictive! Never did I imagine that I would actually be watching something like a soap opera about the life of Henry the VIII!
  18. Well unfortunately, Netflix isn't available in my neck of the woods, so that's why I rely on websites such as DailyMotion.com (and even Youtube!) for my (practically) daily dose of vintage British comedy. Shows that I really tend to binge on include: Bless This House The Young Ones Sorry Are You Being Served? Keeping Up Appearances George and Mildred Fawlty Towers Oh and as for Drama Series are concerned, the shows I tend to binge watch are: Downton Abbey The Tudors JAG
  19. ^^^^Absolutely, Sathington! While some of the recordings on which the speed has been "corrected", sound so heartfelt, bluesy and incredibly haunting, others do seem to be a bit of a drag! Did those jerks from the record company really speed up those 78's or did they just leave those beautiful recordings alone? This debate will probably rage on for decades! Possibly one of the greatest conspiracy theories in Blues music! I can't help but feel a bit frustrated that we may never know for sure, given how important these recordings are in shaping the Blues! *Sigh! Oh well! Anyway, right now, I am listening to "Malted Milk" with the "correct" speed - this is giving me goosebumps, man! http://youtu.be/3-40Z17oz2s
